    Unexpectedly powerful

I am deeply familiar with the story of the 21 Martyrs of Libya. I have read books about them and read all the news coverage about ISIS's savage act. So I did not expect to be so deeply moved by this short animated film of their story. Its narration is simple and just enough. The art echoes Coptic iconography while also being true to the modern age during which this happened. The music and soundscape brought us right into their spiritual and physical world. I highly recommend this film and thank the creators for their thoughtful, prayerful and moving depiction of the martyrdom of these Coptic Orthodox young men.

    A moving artwork

Ten years after the matyrdom of the 21 Coptic Christians (mostly) from Upper Egypt this film shows what happened in a very appropiate, authentic and meaningful way. It is wonderful to see how respectfully and accurately the filmmakers captured the scenes. The combination of Coptic iconography and modern animation is unique, the speakers and the music are strong but never too much. I was amazed how moving and deep this short film captured the faith of the men and the supernatural fight behind the actions. Great respect for this piece of art! I am confident that this movie will help the story to go out to the world!

    striking visuals

It is a terrible story that unfolded for those men but this animated short does an amazing job honouring their live's and faith in the art style of the Coptic church. Like saints remembered before them through out the ages, this beautiful art work can serve as a way to remember this event. The hand drawn visuals are truly impressive and captivating. I feel like this animated short is a gift to the families that lost a son, brother, husband, or father in this senseless act. It highlights the fact that these men while no doubt scared for their lives, seemed to have decided it was worth the cost to proclaim their faith in Christ to the end. It is indeed a touchy subject as the Abrahamic faiths continue to have their tensions decade after decade but I don't think this film was created with the intention of creating more animosity. Everyone will have their biases going into any story related to events surrounding these faiths but I personally feel this is first and foremost a memoriam to the men that died for something they believed in. As an artist and animator myself I cannot stress enough how refreshing and inspired the artwork is in this film.

Needs to be seen all over the world

Intensely visceral and captivating. From the TRUE story to the art, 21 Martyrs is an animated retelling of the remarkable sacrifice of 21 Coptic Christians in Libya. The film doesn't shy away from the weight of their story, weaving it with depictions of supernatural moments reported by eyewitnesses such as the presence of angels and other extraordinary events.

The animation is stunning, capturing both the starkness of their final days and the awe-inspiring sense of something greater at work. There's a balance between the raw reality of their ordeal and a reverence for the spiritual elements that many believe surrounded this tragic event.

What I appreciated most about the film is its ability to make you feel connected to the martyrs, not just as victims of a horrific act but as individuals whose faith and courage shone through in unimaginable circumstances. It's a sobering and deeply moving watch, offering more than just a retelling of history, it's a story that stays with you, inspiring reflection long after the credits roll.

An Astonishing Depiction of Unwavering Faith

The short animated film honoring the 21 Coptic martyrs of Libya is a profound and evocative tribute, seamlessly blending art, history, and faith. Produced by a global team of over 70 artists from 24 countries, the film stands as a testament to collaborative creativity and cultural reverence. Narrated in English with Arabic dialogue, it bridges linguistic and artistic boundaries to tell a story of immense historical and spiritual significance.

Having seen an earlier version of this film last year, I was struck by the remarkable evolution in its artwork and soundtrack. The final version exudes a level of polish and emotional depth that is nothing short of astonishing. The animation captures the solemn beauty and timeless spirituality of Coptic iconography, while the hauntingly beautiful soundtrack underscores the gravity of the narrative.

The juxtaposition of real-life footage with animation is masterful, amplifying the film's emotional resonance. Viewers are drawn into the palpable tension and courage of the Coptic Christians facing martyrdom, juxtaposed with the confusion and frustration of their ISIS captors. This interplay invites profound reflection, leaving one to contemplate the extraordinary faith and conviction that have inspired martyrs throughout history to embrace sacrifice.

This film is not just a work of art but a moving exploration of resilience, faith, and humanity. It achieves the rare feat of turning a deeply painful chapter of history into a poignant reminder of the enduring power of belief and the universal struggle for justice and dignity.
