I decided to watch it, in spite of the negative reviews, and feedback from friends and colleagues.
Unlike some here, I was always a fan of Philip Schofield, a very talented interviewer, and someone with a nice guy aura. I was hoping to watch this, and see him put his hand up and say something along the lines of.....I made a mistake, forget anything like that.
All I heard, is woe is me, poor me, I'm the victim, what the man did was categorically wrong, he used his position, his influence to groom, and I'm sorry, but it's just wrong.
45 minutes of why Philip thinks he's innocent, the reality is, it's just way too soon for something along these lines, people have had no time to forget, all this will do, is reignite people's feelings.
Philip, you need a break, and so does the public, this was a massive misfire, and Channel 5 should be ashamed. My sympathy is still with your wife and children.
2/10.

People need to quit with the morality policing and pearl clutching, Schofield did nothing more heinous than having a dalliance with a younger guy at work, so what?! He didn't break the law, he didn't kill anyone, and how was he punished - with pitch forks and torches - driven out of tv - it's bizarre, we seem to love a downfall from success in this country, leaping at any chance to drag folk down - it's actually pretty distasteful. On this program we saw a pretty well rounded guy considering what he's been through , often playful and funny, philosophical and grateful for what he had, I'd be bitter as a an unripe papaya if it were me, tried in the public court of human opinion by idiots like Holmes who on reflection needed to get his own house in order / it might do people to remember the old adage he who is without sin ..
Channel 5 did 50% of a good job here - they sent the disgraced Phillip Schofield far, far away to an Island.
Unfortunately they bodged the other 50% and let him come back.
While the format here is nothing new, the participant normally comes away with some sort of clarity, or if disgraced, a sense of remorse.
This though is Phillip Schofield. The shouty man from 'Dancing on Ice', the queue cutter extraordinaire.
No blame for his actions is taken, it's all the fault of somebody else, he's the wronged party. If someone at work or down the pub seemed to be so blind to the ramifications of their actions you'd walk away.
The TV equivalent is to turn it off. So I did.

I don't know why people on here all think he's such a monster. Let's face reality - he's not exactly Gary Glitter or Jimmy Savile is he! Personally, I think his private life is his own business and that his sexual preferences are nothing to do with anyone else. Why there was such an outcry in the first place is absolutely beyond me. I found the 3 episodes to be both interesting and quite entertaining, and I also thought he was genuinely being straightforward and honest about the events that led to his downfall. Truth be told there's probably about 95% of us got some skeletons in the cupboard. People are far too quick to point accusing fingers and speak badly of others. Give this man a chance I say! He comes across as a reasonable kind of person who's made a mistake that's been blown up out of all proportion. The media are the monsters - let's not forget how they hounded good old Cliff Richard, who had done absolutely nothing. Phillip Schofield is quite ok in my book. And No, I am NOT a relation or family friend etc, I'm just an old guy who thinks there's far too much hate in this world.
Interesting how the few positive reviews dwell upon his unwise relationship or openly say they love him whatever. Personally I think it seems Schofield can be an unpleasant person for whom an unwise move in qeue gate brought his attitude to the fore and started the bus engine. His unwise relationship, which shouldn't be used to cancel him on its own and I don't believe it was, helped him fall not get pushed under the bus.
I realise his personality is not the sole subject of this review but it is highly relevant. Give him a platform to vent and it's impossible to keep up the positive nice guy for the whole ten days plus. The mask slips and we see the narcissist and true person come to the fore feeling aggrieved and victimised by events created by his own hand.
Extremely poor TV as it was netiher dramatic , entertaining nor educating and served only as a soap box.
I don't know who in ch5 thought this was a good idea but they've done no one any favours.
