I've been following Atsuko's bright brand of comedy for years, so I know about the trolls and hate she gets. People who want to dim her light!!!! First off, one of the reviews says he "never usually rates movies" LOL you just gave yourself away, you never watched this. This is a standup special, not a "MOVIE." Then proceeds to not say anything specific about the jokes or name any of the themes or stories she talks about!! Same with the other hateful review, "This show isn't supposed to come out until tomorrow" what? Are you stupid?? You just gave away that the special hasn't come out yet yet you're writing a review just to downgrade her! Sad pathetic men who are mad they are not spreading love and happy like she is.
I love how cerebral her jokes are! And SO SO relatable. It's a "If you know you know" type situation. If you didn't think this special was funny, then it's not for you haha me on the other hand, I couldn't stop laughing! Everything from her comedic timing to facial expressions - she's a genius. And... I FEEL SO SEEN! Highly recommend her special on Hulu. My parents even asked if we could watch the next episode hahah I wish she had more content! Until the next special I guess. We'll be waiting for you, Atsuko. Keep it up! It's a must watch. Don't let the lame reviewers bring you down...FATHER POWER.
Atsuko's just one of those special once-in-a-lifetime comedians who approach comedy with such joy that it's contagious! She knows exactly how to set up a joke and ensures it pays off well. The material this time also resonates well with me, as the daughter of an immigrant man. Her facial expressions and the way she interacts with the audience is hilarious too! I highly recommend this special for everyone to watch. Gonna be for sure one of my favourite comfort comedy specials!
Truly love her and her work. I cannot wait to see more from her whether it's another special or a different something in store :)
I hope she creates more :)

This is the first time I'd heard of Atsuko and since this show wasn't supposed to come out until tomorrow (as I am writing this, there's no IMDb rating yet) I started watching. It's not terrible, the live audience found it hilarious. I don't want to be mean but I watched the whole thing and didn't laugh even once.
I kinda feel like giving this a 5 is generous.
Obviously I am not a professional movie critic, I rarely post anywhere about anything but I was hoping for so much more from this, especially since she was on The Tonight Show last week pumping this show.
I really wanted to like this but it just didn't happen for me.
