Popeye's Revenge is complete nonsense. Turning our childhood's spinach-loving sailor into a cheap horror figure is neither creative nor interesting. The movie tries to be scary but ends up being unintentionally funny, and its attempt at building an eerie atmosphere is so weak that even the jump scares are predictable. The script feels like it was written by an AI trained on "how to make a horror movie" and then printed out without any editing. Add in terrible CGI and awful acting, and you get a film that's nothing but a waste of time. Instead of resurrecting Popeye, they should have made a documentary about the benefits of spinach-it would've been scarier. But to be fair, it's still better than Snow White.
I always want to ask the folks who leave 1 star reviews: what were you expecting? You know the budget, you know it's going to be subpar acting. You should be hoping for some inventive kills, some semblance of a story... and maybe some nudity. ;-)
This move is just that. Is it a "good" movie? Of course not! But nobody should choose a movie called Popeye's Revenge and expect some polished, well-acted, high budget masterpiece. I had fun with this one, in all its ridiculousness. It definitely had some issues... one victim gets "trapped" in a net. What follows is idiotic. If they would have had changed it to a bear trap, it would have solved about 3 problems. I also wasn't sure about the need to add the fog as a lore requirement. It wasn't necessary and it looks like they had the budget for 1 fog machine from Walmart. Other than that, it is what it is (just like Popeye).
As a lifelong Popeye fan, I've been waiting for a faithful revival of this iconic character for 20 years. Unfortunately, Popeye's Revenge is a complete betrayal of the character and his universe. This film completely distorts Popeye and Olive Oyl, turning them into violent murderers-something that goes completely against everything they've represented for decades.
Additionally, the film uses copyrighted elements that should not have been included:
1. Popeye's white navy suit, which is still protected by copyright until 2037 and should not have been used without permission from King Features Syndicate.
2. The name "Popeye" is a trademark and cannot be used without authorization.
3. Popeye's iconic spinach power is also still under copyright until 2027, and its inclusion in this movie is another violation of the character's intellectual property.
This movie does not respect Popeye's legacy or the core values of the characters. It's a cheap, exploitative horror film that completely misses the point of Popeye's character.
If you're a fan of the real Popeye, stay far away from this movie. It's a terrible, disrespectful take on the character and a disservice to everything Popeye stood for.
- Popeye, once a symbol of strength, bravery, and love, is turned into a psycho killer. This film takes everything that made him a beloved hero and turns him into a villain, making him unrecognizable.
- Olive Oyl, who has always been Popeye's strong, supportive, and independent love interest, is now an active participant in the violence. Instead of being the quirky, kind-hearted woman we know, she helps Popeye commit murder in ways that completely stray from her true character.
- The film tries to shock viewers with violence and horror, completely disregarding the heartfelt adventures and humor that Popeye was originally known for.

There is a new breed of low budget horror. Popeye's Revenge comes from public domain availability.
No longer is Popeye the spinach eating sailor fighting Bluto for Olive Oyl.
Here Popeye is reimagined as a freakish boy who killed his tormentors and then later drowned.
Now the remote house in the countryside is about to be redeveloped. Some obnoxious teenagers have come to stay but they are soon killed by Popeye who is aided by his own Olive Oyl.
This is a no nonsense low budget thriller. It has plenty of T n A, gore and a tribute to slasher films of the past.
The inspiration is Friday the 13th, I Know What You did Last Summer and plenty of others such as Zombi 2 (Splinter through the eye) and Dark Night of the Scarecrow (the climax as Popeye runs straight while being chased by a slow moving vehicle.)
To top it all despite being a tribute to 80s American horror, this is set in Britain. You have to give credit to the director for finding so many silicone enhanced women!

Better than it has a right to be, for sure, and definitely worth a watch. The opening is a cool hook with some animations depicting back story. Regarding the killer, not sure it needed to be Popeye but suitable gnarly and a hulking bloody threat. Run time was efficient, scenes did not linger too long, and some emotional beats rang true, despite the requisite nudity. Creative kills, nods to Hatchet and other slashers. The acting is above par and a great-looking cast. Hope they make a sequel with a bigger budget and need to improve creature design, but otherwise solid , well made comedy horror. Maddis.

- TriviaThis was produced by ITN, the company behind the Poohverse, an MCU-style horror universe combining slasher films with Pinocchio, Bambi, and most famously Winnie the Pooh (it did all the popular Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey films). Popeye will not be part of that universe.
- GoofsThere is a scene where Popeye is killing a lady by apparently clenching her breast until it pops and then drowns her. Popeye is standing behind and above the girl, who is sitting in a pool. However, when the breast pops under the sheer strength of Popeye's hand, his face is sprayed with blood that sprays in from a direction that would indicate the spray coming from directly in front of him, which makes no sense as the woman is not there, and the blood would definitely not come from that angle.
