Steven Murphy in Popeye's Revenge (2025)

Review by mr_elle97

Popeye's Revenge

1/10

A Complete Betrayal of Popeye and Olive Oyl - Not Worth Watching!

As a lifelong Popeye fan, I've been waiting for a faithful revival of this iconic character for 20 years. Unfortunately, Popeye's Revenge is a complete betrayal of the character and his universe. This film completely distorts Popeye and Olive Oyl, turning them into violent murderers-something that goes completely against everything they've represented for decades.

  • Popeye, once a symbol of strength, bravery, and love, is turned into a psycho killer. This film takes everything that made him a beloved hero and turns him into a villain, making him unrecognizable.

  • Olive Oyl, who has always been Popeye's strong, supportive, and independent love interest, is now an active participant in the violence. Instead of being the quirky, kind-hearted woman we know, she helps Popeye commit murder in ways that completely stray from her true character.

  • The film tries to shock viewers with violence and horror, completely disregarding the heartfelt adventures and humor that Popeye was originally known for.

Additionally, the film uses copyrighted elements that should not have been included:

1. Popeye's white navy suit, which is still protected by copyright until 2037 and should not have been used without permission from King Features Syndicate.

2. The name "Popeye" is a trademark and cannot be used without authorization.

3. Popeye's iconic spinach power is also still under copyright until 2027, and its inclusion in this movie is another violation of the character's intellectual property.

This movie does not respect Popeye's legacy or the core values of the characters. It's a cheap, exploitative horror film that completely misses the point of Popeye's character.

If you're a fan of the real Popeye, stay far away from this movie. It's a terrible, disrespectful take on the character and a disservice to everything Popeye stood for.
