I have reviewed each episode of "Love, Death + Robots" and am a big video games guy, so thought I'd do the same process for Amazon's "Secret Level".
This is one of the weirder ones. Though I haven't played a lot of the games used for this series, I have, at least, heard of most of them. This one I hadn't - though a bit of research seems to suggest that is because the game isn't out yet. As a result, we've an episode that's a fairly generic piece of science fiction.
Mari Hanson (Nikko Austin Smith) sneaks away from the desolate planet with adventured Rafael (Christopher Sean). Her father, Nik (Michael Beach) takes a ship to follow after her but due to relative time dilation the time between her arrival, and his, is several years, by which time she has moved on. Learning that she stole something from an ancient alien race called Celestials, Nik signs up for indentured service on board waiting for his time to reconnect with a daughter who has surpassed him in age.
Tough to really generate too many thoughts about this one either. The relative time dilatation mechanic could become fun in a game, seeing habitations change and grow on various visits, characters you've met pass into myth - but there isn't really the time to explore much of anything in this short feature. It looks nice and the vocal performances are good but beyond the inherent sadness of the time shifts there isn't really a lot too it.
