Jafakean is total garbage. If the IMBD rating system allowed me to offer a minus rating, I would have dropped one on it FAST. Enlisting the services of notorious sell out Sizzla (remember his forgettable collabos with the talentless DJ Khaled?) won't imbue this trash with any credibility. We understand that Jamaican culture is coveted across the globe and one of the fastest ways for Black non-Jamaican producers to raise funds for their projects lies with emphasising a Jamaican connection, no matter how tenuous, but this outing provides zero example of creativity, has zero credibility and worst of all? It is so TEDIOUS my teenage grandson preferred to retire to bed, rather than watch to the end. A first, he usually has to be banished to his room kicking and screaming on a weekend. Rejoice. A cure for insomnia has been discovered. A big fat Zero on EVERYONE involved in this yesterday's chip wrapping of a movie.
So it's obviously a low budget film - I wasn't expecting an Oscar worthy movie but this really was terrible. The script was so poor, no real plot, an abrupt ending that seemed like they just ran out of money! Great to see a couple of gems in it like Sizzla and Oliver Samuels but they were the only highlights. Peter Andre was terrible - couldn't even be bothered to go to a dialect coach so instead they just dubbed a Jamaican accent on him. When he did speak with an English accent he was trying to sound like a Southern Geeza but randomlly kept coming out with 'me gran' as though he was a Northerner - just bizarre. One minute calling his grandmother 'nan' the next 'gran' - make your mind up! Even the grandmother couldn't act! I think most the cast were probably promised a Guy Richie style brit film but what was delivered was even worse than an episode of Hollyoaks!
This has to be one of the most controversial movies released this year. There is alot of commentary regarding the plot, acting ability and topic, not all positive I must say... however at times there is a necessity to see before you believe and I would encourage you to do exactly that before making a judgement. I for one enjoyed the movie, understood its intension and lighthearted humour whilst celebrating a culture with icons from a generation I crew up with. In America a rising star called Spike Lee was once embraced by his community to pursue his talent, recognising an opportunity to showcase topics to a wider audience historically blockaced from main stream entertainment. Fredi Nwaka is a talented British born film director ready to distrup the status quo of the British film industry, let's not miss out on our opportunity. 🙏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
I watched the Q and A with the director and Andre after and they both seem nice guys who had genuinely good intentions with this film, the fact that no one told them or whilst being in Jamaica, a place and culture he loved, why he'd not notice how poorly he represented it. Speaks about being honoured to film in locations hidden from the public (£35 for a bus tour)
The film is porn style acting and even worse camera work, I like Jamie Lomas from hollyoaks but what was he thinking, trying to be some delinquent chav, the characters were awful, the dialogue was awful, it's like they edited in the wrong scenes, some things that are said might be an attempt at a joke, but they come across as confusing and imbecilic.
Andre can't act, the ending again was one of the dumbest in cinema history, the plot holes were outstanding, I mean anyone notice tattoos? But there are scenes when things happen ( and don't get me wrong I love stupid humour and spoof etc) where you just can't understand why they think it's working. I get you have a story but it has to atleast make a bit of sense.
I'm not Jamaican or someone who's ever offended as I hate snowflakes but this film is needless and bizarrely cast, if Andre was a comic genius then fine but if you're going full pelt to do everything but black face you should have a good cast.
It's a shame the director genuinely looked passionate about stuff but also said Andre smashed every scene, they couldn't even get a grandma who could act. This was so low budget, so blatantly provocative that it should never see the light of day. At best it's a £3 straight to DVD.

This movie is not as bad as some say, but could have been better. I understand the concerns that some have about Peter Andre dressing up as a black man, but that is the whole premise of the story and it seemed to me that it was done for fun and not to intentionally offend anyone.
The movie is a bit messy with some pretty odd and unbelievable characters especially at the beginning which takes place in England. The scenes of him trying to get money from various criminal characters was a bit drawn out and should have been shorter as it made things seem to drag out a lot. But when they get to Jamaica things got a bit better.
It was great to see Oliver Samuels, a Jamaican comedian who has done some really funny things in the past, but is probably unknown to many outside of Jamaica.
For my money, any movie that shows the beauty of Jamaica is worth watching, but the thing that spoiled things was the overuse of profanity. Far too many F words, especially at the beginning and it was so unnecessary and ruined what could have been a good comedy.
However I gave this 5 stars because it had its funny moments.
