The movie has no story at all. It's about a couple who fight then makeup then fight and makeup, this keeps going on throughout the movie, tiring everyone out. And everyone is yelling all the time. I saw it on OTT and sound was unbearable. I sympathise with people who saw this in theatre, they must have gone deaf.
The 4 stars are for solid performances by all cast despite the lacklustre script. There are a few funny moments but there is only so much yelling one can take. So movie is a good way to get a headache(Thalavalli).

Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya had great chemistry in this film. She seems to fit into whatever role she plays, I don't know how. Underrated actor, she.
Barring that, I am not sure if I am able to see why this loud and jarring film is the massive hit that it has become. "Yogi Babu's comedy was great." aam, not sure about that, and I don't know if the film changes if you axe out his entire role. Regressive dialogues kept aside, I wonder if the events of this film are still commonplace in rural-TN and maybe I'm so far away from that reality and out of touch.
While this film was not for me and I think it'll end up in the "Bad movies of 2025" list in my books, I'd rather watch this over a badly made, jarring, 400-Crore commercial film that delivers nothing but fanservice to people who are too afraid to admit that their hero made a bad movie.

Thalaivan Thalaivi starts with real comic energy thanks to Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen's chemistry, but the story quickly loses its grip with repetitive family drama and forced confrontations. The initial light-hearted scenes in the temple are engaging, but the endless cycle of feuds drains the impact, making the narrative feel more monotonous than meaningful. While the music by Santhosh Narayanan and visual touches are enjoyable, the screenplay's preachy tone and loud moments overshadow the heartfelt performances. The film has flashes of fun, but overall, it delivers more headaches than highlights.
I would personally suggest avoiding this movie, especially if you're someone who values a well-balanced screenplay and engaging storytelling. Unfortunately, this film falls flat in multiple areas. The most jarring aspect is the excessive shouting throughout the movie. It felt like the characters were constantly yelling at each other without any emotional depth or reason, which became exhausting very quickly.
The screenplay is poorly structured and lacks pace. The story moves at a snail's pace, and what was supposed to be a 2-hour movie ends up feeling like a 5-hour marathon. There are numerous scenes that serve no real purpose to the story and only contribute to stretching the runtime unnecessarily. As a result, the film struggles to hold your attention for long.
Another major letdown is the inclusion of random songs that are forced into the film. These songs break the flow of an already weak narrative and feel completely out of place. Rather than enhancing the emotional quotient or the storytelling, they only add to the lag.
The movie also relies heavily on action sequences, most of which feel repetitive and unnecessarily loud. There's a lack of meaningful dialogue, character development, or any strong emotional connect. It appears the filmmakers were more focused on creating noise and chaos rather than crafting a compelling story.
Overall, the film feels like an exhausting experience with very little reward. It neither entertains nor leaves a lasting impression. Unless you're a hardcore fan of over-the-top action and loud performances, you might want to skip this one.

Just a no-story nonsense movie with just yelling and shouting start to end. I regret that I didn't carry any earplugs. Such a nonsense! I have seen people covering their ears and watching this in agony and regret that they are watching this drama. I always loved movies from Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen but this will be the major red flag in their career.
