I had the chance to watch at JAFF yesterday, and honestly, this was one of the most anticipated films. The ticket war was crazy-sold out within minutes!
Okay, it's a bit hard to give a review without spoilers. Here's the thing: the storyline is great, I really liked it. As a drama film, the drama hits just right-not overly cheesy like some other Indonesian dramas. The acting was incredibly impressive, and seeing Chicco here, his performance was amazing. OH, and this movie is super funny, guys! I didn't expect to laugh as much as I did.
This movie is not a movie that forces the audience to cry, or this movie does not sell sadness, but warmth. So if you cry, maybe it's happy tears.
My first impression after leaving the cinema? The film felt so heartwarming and enjoyable to watch. You don't need to overthink it-just go to the theater, sit back, and enjoy a genuinely warm and delightful film.

Simple and touching storyline, all elements and aspects in this movie executed brilliantly. Love, struggle, sadness, and also a feeling of warmth can also be felt from my side as a film audience. The story revolves around the issue of sandwich generation, It becomes a dilemma from many sides, whether family is a responsibility or a burden. This film teaches that no one in the family should feel indebted "berhutang". Sacrifice and sincerity must coexist within a family.
The acting from the cast, became one of the aspect of this film's success. Breath taking but simple cinematography. Beautiful soundtrack, many of which are taken from songs written by Sal Priadi.

1 Kakak 7 Ponakan is a beautifully crafted family drama that proves Yandy Laurens is a genius in storytelling. The film is a heartfelt exploration of familial bonds, especially resonating with the sandwich generation, earning a solid 9/10 or even a 9.2/10 if you find yourself in their shoes. Its simplicity is its strength-offering a story that's unassuming yet profoundly meaningful.
This warm and emotional film delivers moments that will make you cry deeply while reminding you of the importance of family. However, a minor drawback is the depiction of a character so angelic that it leans towards being unrealistic. Despite this, the film remains a masterpiece that celebrates love, sacrifice, and growth within the chaos of family life.

"Berpikir bisa punya hidupku sendiri tuh salah gitu rasanya"
"Tahu gimana waktu mikirin diri sendiri, kok jadi ngerasa bersalah ya?"
Sooo relateable as sandwich gen.
He's such a good character that i wonder how proud his parents (fiction) would be of him. His brother and sister too (not eka en osa) are also a good people that the kids are so kind.
Slice of life story that hits too close to home to many people especially asian sandwich gen. Also Eka's character is so close to reality. A literal parasite that keeps yapping as if they're magnificent but actually a loser. No character development of him because irl people like him wouldn't change for the better too.
It's because they are such a sweetheart that it doesn't feel like a burden. All the suffering feels worth it because the reason aka the family is worth it. That's why the trust between family members is soo important. I feel the warmth of this family but also longing for the same.

Yandy Laurens it's the best director, i think he writte a story with heart and him feelings. Such as from a technical perspective, cinematography, directing the actors optimally so as to produce a good storyline. And then in giving the image colors that tend to be natural without using a lot of filters so that I can feel the aesthetic that Yandy wants to give. In essence, the technical matters in this film it's good enough, but I think Freya's role as Nina in this film still has shortcomings. She is a new actress in film, so the emotions she plays still feel a little fake and stiff. Good film.
