'Cardcaptor Sakura' Resurfaces in the Most Unexpected Way 27 Years After Its Release

However, her life is turned upside down when she unlocks a secret book that releases a set of Clow cards into Japan. Then, she is...

Anime fans have been awed and impressed by its plot, which features a high school girl named Yoshino Somei who becomes engaged to the heir of a rival yakuza group against her wishes. This 2024 Romance Anime Displayed The Most Toxic Relationship In Years
Image
Crunchyroll’s Yakuza Fiancé: Raise wa Tanin ga li is one of 2024’s most controversial anime. The sizzling yakuza romance was already set up to be a highly-anticipated title, featuring an intense story about two yakuza family members who are forced to get engaged. Having said that, Yakuza Fiancé definitely lives up to the hype because it’s been a while since a bold romantic story became the talk of the town.

The anime is deliciously contentious with its evocative themes, especially the show’s leading man, Kirishima Miyama. His aura and disruptive personality are the reasons why the fans have been attracted to the dangerous love story that unapologetically waltzes between romance and toxicity. Whether for better or for worse, Yakuza Fiancé has become one of the most talked about anime of 2024, but that doesn’t mean it was a healthy addition to the genre.

Yakuza Fiancé Has One of the Best New Gen Shojo Anime Love Triangles
Image
Yakuza Fiancé concluded its first season, crafting a highly entertaining romance dynamic. The story combines a few different shojo and dark romance tropes to great effect, mixing popular clichés with more underrated ones. Kirishima is a hilarious yandere love interest; he's toxic, but his darker qualities lend themselves well to a black comedy romance about gangsters.

Yandere love interests rarely take center stage, and many romance and shojo audiences prefer a tsundere or kuudere love interest. Tsunderes can be moody, but they can't hold a candle to a yandere's obsessive, feral nature. Though Kirishima is an unlikely love interest type, his and Yoshino's romance is driven by popular tropes, like forced proximity and arranged marriage.

10 Best Kirishima Moments in Yakuza Fiancé Season 1
Image
This article contains spoilers for season 1 of Yakuza Fiancé: Raise wa Tanin ga Ii, now streaming on Crunchyroll.

Yakuza Fiancé's Kirishima Miyama may have been shojo anime's boy of the year in 2024. Kirishima deviates so much from the typical love interests in anime, especially those seen within the genre. He is gentlemanly only for his own gain. He is a masochist who wants a woman who can tear his life to pieces. And he is shamelessly manipulative and perverse to the point where a significant number of viewers have actually grown to dislike him.

Whether a fan loves or hates Kirishima doesn't change the fact that he fuels the anime's entire plot, and he has a slew of significant scenes that define him as an entertaining and captivating character. Without him, Yakuza Fiancé wouldn't be as chaotically compelling as it is. Kirishima takes the audience on a roller-coaster ride with his unpredictable nature,...

10 Yakuza Fiancé Scenes That Prove Kirishima Isn't as Toxic as Fans Think
Image
This article contains spoilers for season 1 of Yakuza Fiancé: Raise wa Tanin ga Ii, now streaming in its entirety on Crunchyroll.

Asuka Konishi's Yakuza Fiancé is a spicy, dangerous shojo romance that includes one of the most interesting male leads in anime: the unhinged and masochistic Kirishima Miyama. From the very first episode to the finale, Kirishima showcased an alarming number of red flags that initially put many viewers off, resulting in him being written off as a toxic love interest who pales in comparison to less problematic male characters in shōjo like Fruits Basket's Kyo Sohma.

However, Kirishima did, in some ways, become a better romantic partner for Yoshino as the season progressed. Kirishima's obsessive, yandere nature may not have faded, but his initial infatuation became true affection as his relationship with Yoshino grew. There is no fixing the manipulative and cunning beast that Kirishima is, but...

Yakuza Fiancé Season 1 Ends on a High Note for Kirishima and Yoshino
Image
This article discusses the season 1 finale of Yakuza Fiancé: Raise wa Tanin ga Ii and will contain spoilers.

The romance told in Asuka Konishi's Yakuza Fiancé is one of the most bizarre love stories in all of shojo anime. Kirishima Miyama is a violent, scheming womanizer, and Yoshino only hopped on the ride so that she could exact vengeance. So far, their relationship has been full of deceptions, hidden plots, and boundaries being crossed (especially on Kirishima's part). Viewers have been expecting any union between the anime's main pair to be filled with entertaining chaos and delicious toxicity.

However, Yakuza Fiancé’s season finale shows that Kirishima and Yoshino’s relationship may not be headed towards the dangerous and rocky roads that fans initially thought. Kirishima vs. Shouma: Who’s Best for Yakuza Fiance's Yoshino?
Image
This article discusses events in season 1 of Yakuza Fiancé: Raise wa Tanin ga Ii and will contain spoilers.

Yakuza Fiancé is an incredibly unique shojo anime with a female protagonist that subverts nearly every trope that is typical of the average shojo heroine. However, one trope that Yoshino Somei does not evade is the inevitable love triangle, as the series presents two prominent male characters that each have their own uniquely appealing dynamic with her.

Kirishima Miyama is the utterly obsessed yandere who has devoted his entire being to Yoshino, while Shouma Toriashi is more or less the childhood best friend with a dog-like protectiveness and loyalty towards her. Both characters have garnered waves of attention from viewers and have split fans down the middle—the series puts more focus on Kirishima, but there is much debate over which tattooed troublemaker is more perfect for Yakuza Fiancé's firey-headed heroine.

What Makes Yakuza Fiances Kirishima a Dangerously Enticing Husbando
Image
Yakuza Fiance is one of the best anime this fall. This crime drama follows a young heiress to the Somei yakuza family as she becomes engaged to the dangerous Kirishima Miyama against her will. Yoshino doesn't trust Kirishima, especially after everything he'd done to her, and fans shouldn't trust him either.

However, Kirishima has a certain dangerous charm about him that makes him too appealing a husbando to pass up. He's fiercely protective of Yoshino once he realizes she's the one he loves, but he goes a bit too far in showing his affections. This relationship definitely isn't healthy, but it sends delightful tingles down fans' spines to watch whatever schemes Kirishima comes up with next.

Does Yakuza Fiancs Yoshino Belong With Kirishimaor No One at All?
Image
Yakuza Fiance is the hot new romantic drama anime this fall where a yakuza princess gets engaged to a shady young heir of a fellow yakuza. As this is a romance anime, it's only natural that sparks will fly, though the crime elements may have blood splattering as well. Yakuza Fiance promises not just romance but plenty of danger.

However, the series never stopped to ask itself if its leading lady really meets her perfect match in Kirishima. She may not meet him in Kirishima's romantic rival Shouma either. Rather, Yakuza Fiance may never have stopped to ask itself if Yoshino needs a man at all. She may be better off single. Only time will tell.

Why Yakuza Fiancé: Raise wa Tanin ga Ii Should Be Your Next Watch if You Love Mess
Image
When you watch a romance anime, you expect two likable leads with good chemistry and a natural buildup to their relationship. Yakuza Fiancé: Raise wa Tanin ga Ii is not that kind of romance anime. This series is for those who love mess and their characters messier. You’re not going to find perfection, wholesomeness or the traditional sense of romance in Yakuza Fiancé , but to me, that’s what makes it so compelling. As a manga reader, Yakuza Fiancé has been my most anticipated show this fall anime season, and I love that the anime adaptation doesn’t hold back on showing just how the characters and their relationships with each other aren’t… normal, to put it politely. Given that the show revolves around yakuza (which we’ve seen many anime influenced by), it’s not a surprise that the characters live — and love — dangerously. Let’s dive...
