Nearly three years ago, it was announced that Timo Tjahjanto (The Shadow Strays, V/H/S/94) had been enlisted to helm the remake of South Korean zombie epic Train to Busan for New Line Cinema, titled The Last Train to New York before being pulled from the schedule. The filmmaker recently gave an update on the film’s status.
When asked by a fan on X whether the director was still attached to the project, Tjahjanto replied “I’ve been ready since 2020, but when a film is stalled thats not up to the director.”
The Last Train to New York was initially dated for theatrical release on April 21, 2023 before being temporarily un-dated in 2022. This is the first update, though not much of one, since the news that the remake was being pulled from the release slate.

Although Netflix offers a wide and diverse selection of genres in English, in recent years, it has widened its horizons with plenty of foreign titles. South Korean productions have received a lot of success on the streaming platform.
After Squid Game became an international phenomenon and Netflix's most-viewed title, Netflix has continued to make more South Korean projects. Its latest release is Revelations, which comes from Train to Busan filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho. Following its release on the platform, Revelations quickly became a streaming hit, per Tudum.
Yeon has been partnering with Netflix for many years, and his latest project comes after 2023's action sci-fi Jung_E and several series. The new film, Revelations, premiered on the streaming service on Mar. 21, and it reached the top of the charts in the Top 10 Non-English films globally for the week between Mar. 17 and 23.
In just two days, Revelations attracted 5.7 million views, and 11.6 million hours viewed.

Christopher Nolan isn't the kind of director to rest on his laurels for too long. With production officially underway on The Odyssey, fans are working their way through his back catalog, and it's Nolan's last movie that has become a streaming hit almost two years after it was initially released. The film in question is none other than Oppenheimer, starring Cillian Murphy. You may remember it as the film that had a weird feud with Greta Gerwig's Barbie, caused Cillian Murphy to nearly emaciate himself for the leading role, or won almost every Oscar last year. However Nolan's R-rated biopic about one of the most important men in modern history lingers in your brain, it might be time to revisit the 3 hour+ epic, as it's currently a hit on streaming.
Oppenheimer is currently streaming on Netflix, and is flying up the streamer's top 10 most popular films of the week list.

“Revelations” is a 2025 Korean drama movie, categorized as Crime, Thriller, and Suspense; based on a webtoon of the same name and streaming on Netflix. Summary: A detective in the violent crimes unit follows a rapist around after he is released from prison hoping to prevent him from committing another crime. His first victim was her sister. In “Revelations”, Sung Min-Chan has been serving as a minister of a small congregation. He grew suspicious of his wife and hired a private investigator. Yeon Sang-ho first established himself as, potentially, the next big thing in animation with his debut- and sophomore features “The Fake” (2013) and “Seoul Station” (2016). With the latter’s live-action sequel, “Train to Busan” (2016), he nominated himself for the title of the new Korean master of genre filmmaking. However, the trilogy’s ending, “Peninsula” (2020) was underwhelming, to put it mildly, even for the Covid-era standards, while two more two more of his flicks, the superhero action comedy “Psychokinesis” (2018) and the Netflix-produced Sf-action movie “Jung-e” (2023) were mere passable efforts.

Prolific Korean director Yeon Sang-ho has staged a zombie apocalypse aboard a bullet train (Train to Busan) and a twisted supernatural fantasy across the full expanse of Seoul (Hellbound) but with Revelations, his latest feature for Netflix, he wanted a more intimate, grounded story.
Revelations follows a pastor who comes to believe that murdering the culprit behind a missing-person case is his divine mission and a police detective haunted by visions of her late sister who was driven to suicide after becoming the victim of a heinous crime. The film was shot almost entirely on location with natural light, lending its high-concept story a gritty sense of immediacy.

I had to watch Revelations twice before I could bring myself to write anything on the movie. It’s a soulless thriller that tries desperately to live up to the reputation of its makers, and in doing so, overdoes a lot of things. But by no means is Revelations a hit-and-miss affair. When you have Train to Busan (2016) director Yeon Sang-ho helming a movie executive produced by Roma (2018) director Alfonso Cuaron, you expect nothing less than pure cinematic bliss. And when you add masterful screenwriter and graphic novelist Choi Gyu-seok to the mix, the bar is set really high. Sadly, Revelations falls short of expectations by some margin.
Based on Sang-ho and Gyu-seok’s eponymous webtoon, Revelations is surprisingly incongruous. Sure, it has its high points, like the muddy scuffle between Pastor Min-chan and ex-convict Yang-rae on a forested mountain ledge or the former’s slow descent into madness accentuated...

Directed by Yeon Sang-ho, whose acclaimed horror movie Train To Busan is regarded as one of the modern zombie classics, Korean crime thriller Revelations is an engaging treatise on crime that delineates how real-life horrors most often appear to be rooted in psychological turmoil. Juggling themes of religious fervor, past trauma, second chances, guilt, and psychosis, Revelations doesn’t shy away from discussing sensitive issues about criminal rehabilitation, the nature of personal justice, and the conflict between the personal and professional spheres when it comes to ethics and morality. Arguably, the final act of the movie could have been more engaging if the makers hadn’t played all their cards already, but other than that, the sleek, beautifully shot and acted thriller doesn’t provide any chance for viewers to complain.

Revelations is a psychological thriller where the boundaries between faith, delusion, vengeance, and trauma blur. The story follows three central characters, each grappling with their own darkness. Yeon-Hui, a hardened detective, joined the Violent Crimes Division after losing her sister to a sadistic killer. The pain of that loss still lingers, fueling her relentless pursuit of justice. Min-chan, a struggling pastor, is desperate for recognition, his ambition overshadowing his crumbling marriage. As he battles the betrayal of his unfaithful wife, his obsession with success manifests in unsettling visions—ones that drive him toward irreversible choices.
Then there’s Kwon, a man whose childhood was defined by suffering at the hands of his abusive stepfather. The scars of his past twisted into something monstrous, leading him to inflict the same torment on a woman. But a psychiatrist saw through his demons, securing him a short prison sentence rather than a lifetime behind bars.

When talking about South Korean cinema, Bong Joon-ho is usually the first name that comes up in conversation. But for me, Yeon Sang-ho — the man behind Netflix’s Revelations — holds a special place in my heart. Train to Busan remains the best zombie apocalypse film I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching, and its intense and emotional approach to the genre left a lasting impression. Though his filmography is shorter and less widely acclaimed than some of his contemporaries, Sang-ho stands out for his ability to blend social commentary, fast-paced storytelling, a dark and grounded aesthetic, and an impressive fusion of genres, all while delivering emotionally compelling narratives.
That’s why my expectations for his latest movie, Revelations, were inevitably high. A psychological thriller centered on a pastor who believes punishing criminals is a divine revelation and a detective haunted by visions of her deceased sister, both drawn into...

Korean filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho has traded zombies for psychological horror in his latest Netflix thriller, digging deeper into the darkness of human nature while keeping his signature moral complexity intact.
In Yeon’s latest Netflix thriller “Revelations,” a pastor believes punishing the culprit behind a missing-person case is his divine mission, while a detective haunted by visions of her dead sister pursues her own truth. The film represents a deliberate shift toward more intimate storytelling for the acclaimed director of “Train to Busan” and “Hellbound.”
“With ‘Revelations,’ I wanted to delve deeper into human nature and emotions,” Yeon explains in an interview with Variety. “To really deep-dive into human fragility, I needed an intimate storyline, not a grand-scaled one.”
The film stars Ryu Jun-yeol as Pastor Sung Min-chan, Shin Hyun-been as Detective Lee Yeon-hui, and Shin Min-jae (“Parasyte: The Grey”) as Kwon Yang-rae. Oscar-winner Alfonso Cuarón serves as executive producer,...

Yeon Sang-ho gained worldwide acclaim with his debut live-action feature film, Train to Busan, and the companion animated film, Seoul Station. He followed that up with Psychokinesis, which was a superhero flick; Peninsula, a sequel to Train to Busan; and Jung_E, a sci-fi action thriller, to varying degrees of success. But while making all these feature films, I guess something clicked inside him, and he turned his sights towards religion—well, religious fanaticism, to be specific. Hellbound featured literal demons from the underworld, and the series imagined humanity turning against each other instead of putting up a united front against actual monsters that were dragging people to the netherworld. Parasyte: The Grey had body-snatching aliens in it, and one of its subplots involved a parasitic entity using religious politics to become the most powerful person in the country. Revelations is relatively grounded in reality in comparison to those two projects,...

Do you know those thrillers about psychopaths, murders, victims, and unexpected plot twists? Yes, that formula usually works, and it has been sufficiently proven. “Revelations” (계시록) is one of those thrillers that, moreover, includes a church pastor as the protagonist who becomes involved in a criminal case.
Directed by the acclaimed Yeon Sang-ho, known for his innovative work in “Train to Busan”, this film will take us through a dark alley of shadows, a repeat offender, and a religious pastor as the central axis of a police plot.

In 2021, Yeon Sang-ho and Choi Gyu-seok invited audiences to the depths of hell with their thriller series Hellbound; with their new film Revelations, they’re diving into a darkness that’s much closer to home.

Effectively splitting the difference between the crude human drama of his animated work and the genre spectacle of the blockbuster fare that followed, Korean director Yeon Sang-ho returns with a glossy psychological thriller about a church pastor who’s cucked so hard that he convinces himself it’s an act of God.
And yet, the real problem for Pastor Sung Min-chan (“A Taxi Driver” star Ryu Jun-yeol) is that he’s not alone in mistaking earthly hardship for a kind of divine instruction, as “Revelations” will soon find the good father crossing paths with a serial kidnapper who claims his crimes are committed at the behest of a “one-eyed monster,” as well as a young detective who believes that her dead sister — one of the criminal’s previous victims — is urging her to catch him from the afterlife.

Philadelphia singer-songwriter Shamir has dropped a new song, “Neverwannago,” from their final solo album, Ten, which will arrive this spring via Kill Rock Stars.
For their swan song, Shamir (who uses he/she/they pronouns) decided to honor the many friends who’ve helped, supported, and shaped their musical journey. The album comprises 10 tracks written by those closest to Shamir, based on unused demos and tossed-aside songs that Shamir has given new life.
“Neverwannago” is a pristine hit of Nineties-style alt-pop that balances sun-drenched vibes with just the right amount of melancholy.

Yeon Sang-ho addresses how his upcoming movie Gunche will differ from Train to Busan. 2016's Train to Busan helped put Yeon on the map, introducing international audiences to his story of a zombie virus that takes over South Korea, threatening passengers who are on a train from Seoul to Busan. The film inspired a spiritual sequel, Peninsula, four years later. Though the two movies are based in the same universe, their plots are independent, making Peninsula a standalone sequel. Now, Yeon is in production on a new zombie film, Gunche.
In an interview with Screen Rant for his new film Revelations, Yeon discusses how Gunche is different from Train to Busan. Yeon explains that in both Train to Busan and Peninsula, "the space where everything happened" was the pinnacle of the story. As such, these films focused on "where the zombie virus started and spread." However, in Gunche, "the zombie is of [their] utmost focus.

In 2021, Yeon Sang-ho and Choi Gyu-seok invited audiences to the depths of hell with their thriller series Hellbound; with their new film Revelations, they’re diving into a darkness that’s much closer to home.
“Many of the live-action films I’ve worked on deal with surreal themes in fantasy worlds,” director Yeon told Netflix. “But this time, I ruled out fantasy elements as much as possible. I wanted to depict psychological elements that can be found in reality, such as illusions, delusions, and traumas.”
So Yeon and writer Choi Gyu-seok set out to adapt their 2022 comic of the same name, a sprawling story about a pastor who sets out on a perverse mission. “Director Yeon Sang-ho suggested creating a story about faith and beliefs, the themes that have interested him for a long time,” Choi (The Awl) told Netflix. “I was intrigued and thought that...

When talking about the greatest zombie films of all time, Train to Busan is undeniably a key contender. With its gripping story, distinctive train setting, and nonstop zombie action, it stands out as a game-changer in the genre. Unlike most zombie films that are more primarily focused on survival and gore, Train to Busan also brought a refreshing emotional depth to the table. We're hoping that with Train to Busan director Yeon Sang-ho's new zombie film, he manages to capture that same balance of intense action and emotional storytelling.

Director Yeon Sang-ho — the filmmaker behind beloved Train To Busan — has signed with WME in all areas.
After breaking out with his first live-action film, the 2016 zomie thriller Busan (the film grossed over $98 million on an $8 million budget), Yeon has become one of Korea’s most prolific filmmakers. The Hollywood Reporter review of Busan reads: “As one might expect from a director who started out as a visual artist, the film establishes spatial relationships exceptionally well, so that it’s always clear where characters are in relation to each other. If the secret aim of Train to Busan was to leave a calling card, this will certainly impress backers with bigger budgets.”
Yeon has since directed the television series Hellbound and the feature Jung-e, both for Netflix, as well as Busan sequel Peninsula, which was an official selection at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival.
The filmmaker also produces via his production company Wowpoint.

With his bald head, orange beard and harsh accent, Bill Burr is the quintessential Boston comic. However, Burr has proudly lived in Los Angeles for 17 years.
“I’m feeling pretty lucky,” he tells Variety just days after evacuating from his house due to the L.A. fires. He’s disgusted by the fact that the natural disasters, some of the worst in California’s history, have already become politicized online.
“What kills me is a lot of it is just bots,” he says. “I think it’s treasonous behavior to politicize everything, keeping regular working people at each other’s throats. That is only good for one group of people, and it’s not working people.”
Remove the tragedy, and Burr says Southern California’s environmental hazards “make living out here exciting.”
“I go back to New York and my comic friends tell me how soft L.A. is,” Burr says.
