It’s quite a week for stunning new entries into the top five most-viewed movies and shows on Netflix. The lists on Tudum have been updated and highlight some very recent releases. Those have added an edge and been popular with viewers, one doing so in spectacular numbers.

The top five shows include a new tough-to-stomach drama with remarkable direction and camerawork. The show has been a major talking point for viewers this week and has had a huge number of views. It’s joined by two other new releases and a couple of recent favorites.

On the movie list, one new release has been much-awaited but may be a letdown if the critics are right. But then the viewers themselves have the real say, and it has attracted plenty of them so far. Once again there is plenty of variety and something for all the family among the top five movies.

When looking at Ryan Reynolds' 2024, one particular project stands out: Deadpool & Wolverine. While the third installment in his Merc with a Mouth franchise was a tremendous success, he had a project that didn't reach the same heights — If.

The children's movie If, which stands for Imaginary Friends, was actor and director John Krasinski's first brush with the genre after his two successful horror films from the A Quiet Place franchise. The movie had Reynolds as the leading actor alongside Cailey Fleming and a series of other A-list actors. As the McU's Phase 5 continues to develop, Sony's Spider-Man Universe has apparently come to an end following the overwhelmingly poor reception of Madame Weband Kraven the Hunter, as well as Venom: The Last Dance's disappointing box office results and reviews in comparison to Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Despite Kraven the Hunter's appalling theatrical run, the last installment in Sony's Spider-Man Universe has landed the third spot on Netflix's Top 10 Movies list. As of March 18, 2025, Kraven the Hunter has collected 7.1 million views and 15 million hours viewed. Not every film with good reviews becomes a major commercial hit, and not all films with bad reviews are unpopular. Just like last year there have been a series of examples, including Furiosa: A Mad Max Story, The Fall Guy, and Red One.

Now, Netflix's latest film The Electric State is experiencing a similar trend. Although the film didn't receive a theatrical release and it headed straight to Netflix, the early reviews ahead of the Mar. 14 release called it "one of the worst movies of the year." The official numbers prove otherwise, as Tudumcrowns The Electric State the biggest film of the week.

For the week between Mar. 10 and 16,The Electric State amassed 25.2 million views and 53.8 million hours viewed. That is a huge feat considering the movie had only 2 full days to achieve that before Netflix stopped counting.

It became the No. 1 movie in 47 countries, including the U.S.

Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown are two of the biggest names in streaming, and they have teamed up for a new Netflix hit. After rising to prominence for playing Andy Dwyer on the sitcom Parks and Recreation, Pratt solidified his fame by starring in two highly successful film franchises – playing Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Owen Grady in the Jurassic World trilogy. In recent years, he's also had a consistent presence on streaming, starring in the Prime Video movie The Tomorrow War and the series The Terminal List.

“Adolescence” debuted as Netflix’s most-watched TV show of the week with an impressive audience for its opening weekend.

After debuting its four hour-long episodes on Thursday, March 13, “Adolescence” scored 24.3 million views through Sunday, March 16, making the limited series the most-watched TV show on Netflix during the week of March 10.

The opening weekend viewership for “Adolescence” outpaced that of other recent Netflix original series, including “The Night Agent” Season 2, which debuted to 13.9 million views, and “Zero Day,” which debuted to 19.1 million views during the week of Feb. 17. Likewise, “Running Point” scored 9.3 million views in its first week on the streamer.

Still, viewership for “Adolescence” was not enough to beat Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt-led “The Electric State,” which debuted to 25.2 million views, ranking as the most-watched movie of the week on Netflix.

Honestly, a title like Plankton: The Movie is about as difficult to evaluate as any movie that comes down the Hollywood pike or, in this case, washes up on its shores. Not because it’s a spin-off of SpongeBob Squarepants – or at least, not because there is anything inherently wrong with a spin-off movie of such a durably silly and enjoyable kids’ franchise – but because it often feels somewhere to the side of genuine feature-film status. In executive terms, it is more like content.

Lengthwise, Plankton does qualify as a feature, though its official runtime of nearly 90 minutes doesn’t really do justice to the fact that it runs closer to 75 when you take out the extensive end credits. Anyway, that’s not a problem; there...

Netflix has released a new trailer for its upcoming SpongeBob SquarePants film starring Plankton. The movie is set for release this March on the streaming platform.

Plankton: The Movie will be an animated musical comedy film starring the diabolical character from Stephen Hillenburg's hit television series SpongeBob SquarePants. Sheldon J. Plankton -- SpongeBob's tiniest frenemy -- is at the center of the movie, which covers what happens when Plankton's latest evil scheme is thwarted, and Bikini Bottom and the surface world become threatened by an unexpected danger when his iconic cartoon robot Karen goes rogue. Before Plankton is able to take over the world, he's going to have to save it first. Plankton: The Movie debuts on Netflix on March 7.

Netflix is among companies that have been affected by a security breach at a post-production partner that has resulted in a massive online leak of anime titles, including Season 2 of Arcane, Terminator Zero, Dandadan, Ranma ½ and more.

“One of our post production partners has been compromised and footage from several of our titles has unfortunately leaked online, a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement to Deadline. “Our team is aggressively taking action to have it taken down.”

The titles have appeared on X and 4Chan, according to IGN, which first reported the leak.

Sony’s Crunchyroll also was among those compromised. The premiere episode of isekai anime Re: Zero also leaked.

The content was first spotted online on August 6. Since then, shows including Heartstopper Season 3, Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld and films such as Plankton: The Movie and Spellbound also have leaked, according to IGN.

Twenty-five glorious years since Nickelodeon first introduced the world to Stephen Hillenburg’s quirky cast of characters that he discovered in a town deep on the ocean floor called Bikini Bottom. More specifically, one humble little goofball we all know (and love), Mr. SpongeBob SquarePants.

We’ve been so lucky to be part of a crew that has grown and morphed over the years in surprising ways. There are talented folks who have been with us since the very beginning and new members who grew up loving the show that they are now helping create. This is the secret formula to the show’s success.

The world of animation is one of the most creative and unique. Growing up, when you think of cartoons, it may have been anime, Pixar, Bugs Bunny, or Mickey Mouse, but there is far more to offer. Over the decades, filmmakers have taken audiences to brave new worlds too vast to imagine. Even before the advent of CGI, animators created incredible stories for decades that ran the gamut of imaginative tales. And over the past few years, Netflix has proven to be a powerhouse for animated tales. With the successful Academy Award win for last year’s exceptional Pinocchio from Guillermo del Toro, you can expect much more.

I recently attended the Next on Netflix: Animation Preview, which included something for the entire family. The event took place at the Netflix Tudum Theater in Los Angeles. And our announcer? That would be “Lola” from the hilariously crude animated series Big Mouth.

Netflix Animation held its first slate preview event June 6 at the Tudum in L.A., as a lead-up to the Annecy Animation Festival (June 9-15), where it will premiere Shannon Tindle’s “Ultraman: Rising” (streaming June 14) and tout some of its upcoming works in 2024 and 2025.

Hosted by Christopher Sean (the voice star of “Ultraman: Rising”), attendees were treated to exclusive presentations, previews, and special announcements. The biggest announcement was the full title of Aardman’s next stop-motion feature, “Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl,” which will have an Oscar-qualifying run this winter before streaming in 2025.

Directed by franchise creator Nick Park and creative director Merlin Crossingham, who offered a pre-recorded introduction, “Vengeance Most Fowl” marks the return of the villainous penguin, Feathers McGraw, from the Oscar-winning short “The Wrong Trousers.” The film is a cautionary tale of high-tech gone wrong involving an out-of-control “smart gnome” with a mind of its own.
