Soundies were music video from 1940 through 1946. They were meant to be played a device called the Mills Panaram, which you might find in bars, night clubs, and similar establishments. Drop in a dime, and you'd get a three-minute movie from a reel of ten. Typically they were changed weekly, and over six years Mills and other companies produced more than two thousand of them. Usually they were musical numbers, like this one, but there were straight comedy skits, juggling acts, and acrobatic teams.
