Saw this at the lighthouse film festival and was surprised at how much I loved it. Incredibly touching and didn't expect it to be funny at times (cuz not a comedy). Please don't miss it. I'm not a big fan of women's wrestling but so so entertaining and film about so much more. It was very unexpected. This is a special treat.

I tried to submit but this review needs to be longer and only writing so much cuz this needs to have more in it.... But I really haven't seen a movie this entertaining (and no sex-very clean) in years.

Filmmaker was there with some of his 'cast' which was a treat to hear them speak and talk about where in life they are now - but at the end of film the director states this too. Anyway - such a fun film.

First-time filmmaker Mr. Altschul clearly put an incredible amount of time and care into getting all the little details right, and it shows in every frame. I was surprised by how deeply connected I felt to each young woman's journey; their struggles, growth, and triumphs felt both intimate and inspiring. I found myself wholeheartedly rooting for these remarkable female athletes as they pushed through challenges and broke barriers. What stood out most to me was the depth of their stories-their journeys into wrestling intertwined with family dynamics, school politics, and the pressures of gender and societal expectations. This thoughtful, well-crafted film not only shines a light on their determination but also opens a broader conversation about resilience and ambition. I can't wait to see what Mr. Altschul does next-I'll definitely be there for it! 10 fingers up!

All American swept me away from the moment it started. Unaware of my surroundings, so up close and personal, I felt acquainted with everyone and found myself rooting for them. Mark Altschul shows us the beauty in the struggles in their lives and the tenacity of those drawn to compete. The stories breathe. They unfold over several years showing us not only how much the competitors, coaches and athletes change but how much the sport has evolved itself and the lives of the people involved.

The documentary has sparked some wonderful conversations with friends and family that grew up wrestling and are supporting their children as they grow into strong men and women.

All American tells a captivating story and reveals a world unknown to many. Jojo, Naomi and Arham entered my heart as did the two dedicated coaches. I have to admit to tearing up at various points and hoping against hope that they'll all "make" it. 3 out of the 5 did...and my heart broke for Arham and the older coach, who lost so much in the shuffle of life circumstances. The film provides a peek into a rare topic that deserves attention. It ecompasses a wide lens' view into issues pertaining to how socio-economic class system, immigration, cultural diversity, feminism, public education, the sport of wrestling and sport psychology shape the life of teen female immigrants. Last not least, this documentary attempts to decipher the secret to overcoming the many barriers and hurdles that are standing in the way of social mobility of immigrant girls.
