While it once seemed improbable, it looks like Coyote vs. Acme may soon be coming to a theater near you!
According to Deadline, Ketchup Entertainment is in advanced negotiations to acquire the animated/live-action hybrid feature from Warner Bros, in a deal that's estimated to be in the $50 million range. The independent distributer-financier previously rescued The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, which is currently playing in theaters.
In recent years, Ketchup has also been behind the releases of Weekend in Taipei, Goodrich, Hellboy: The Crooked Man, Memory, Ferrari, Hypnotic, and Bushwick.
The trade does note that the deal could still fall apart, but things are progressing in the right direction for now. If/when the deal is finalized, expect to see Coyote vs. Acme hit theaters sometime in 2026.

Will Forte has looked back at his Saturday Night Live spinoff MacGruber bombing at the box office. The 2010 comedy infamously debuted to harsh reviews and subsequently underperformed at financially as well.
MacGruber was based on Forte's recurring SNL sketches in which he played a MacGyver-like hero whose attempts to diffuse dangerous situations almost always failed miserably. Despite the movie being packed with SNL stars – including Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph – the project's failure was seen as a black mark on Forte's potential as a movie star.
Will Forte Reflects on MacGruber's failure
Forte candidly reflected on MacGruber's failure during a recent interview with Ted Danson on the Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast (via Entertainment Weekly). He admitted that the project bombing was particularly hurtful since it came out only a week after SNL's triumphant season finale.

Amy Schumer's comedies always draw strong numbers, even when they're not a big hit with the critics. Her latest success proves that.
Schumer starred in Netflix's most recent comedy, Kinda Pregnant, which was released on the platform on Feb. 5. The comedy follows Amy Schumer's character Lainy, a woman who gets jealous of her best friend's pregnancy and lies about being pregnant herself, going as far as wearing a fake baby bump. While the baby bump on the comedy is fake, Kinda Pregnant's numbers on the platform are as real as it gets, proving the new release is a hit, topping the charts in the U.S. and globally, per Tudum.

A snarky podcast host desperately tries to build an ever-shrinking audience in the zombie apocalypse in director Meera Menon‘s Didn’t Die. The feature, set to debut next week at Sundance, is heavily inspired by George A. Romero’s quintessential Night of the Living Dead, but not entirely in the way you’d expect.
The stunning black-and-white photography and green text visually evoke Romero’s defining film, but the homage runs deeper than that while eschewing the conventional zombie apocalypse story. For one, Didn’t Die isn’t all that interested in the zombies but rather in humanity’s desperate need for normalcy, even in the most unusual of circumstances. More charming dramedy than straightforward horror, Menon’s zombie film skips past the obvious Covid lockdown metaphor to instead examine the way we collectively and immediately tried to move past and resume routines as if we hadn’t lived through an unprecedented and traumatic world event.

Nosferatu (2024), directed by Robert Eggers, reimagines the legendary 1922 silent film classic. It brings a fresh yet eerie perspective to the iconic vampire myth. Known for his mastery of atmospheric horror and historical authenticity, Eggers creates a chilling retelling of Count Orlok’s tale. The film captures the same haunting tension and visual storytelling seen in his previous works like The Witch and The Lighthouse. The cinematography, by Dop Jarin Blaschke, echoes the ominous lighting and stark shadows of the original. It adds a unique modern twist. With a mesmerizing performance by Bill Skarsgård as the terrifying vampire, Nosferatu (2024) captures the original’s haunting aura while expanding its thematic depth. If you were drawn to its eerie atmosphere and dark, immortal themes, these 7 classic vampire movies will be a perfect follow-up.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for I Am Legend.
Scheduled for a box office landing date sometime this year, Will Smith's I Am Legend sequel is already making waves, just not quite the way that the producers and director were envisioning. What kind of sequel do the filmmakers have in store for fans of the first film? Funny you ask. Based on the early leaks from producer Akiva Goldsman per Deadline, it will ignore the last 15 minutes of the original 2007 zombie blockbuster, opting to go with a completely different, deleted scene hardly anyone has ever witnessed. Think of the sequel as more of a mea culpa than a remake.
Continuity errors are common, but a franchise attracts the wrong kind of attention when they pull a 180 and desperately attempt to gaslight viewers. At the close of the 2007 post-apocalyptic movie, protagonist Dr. Robert Neville (played by Smith) dispatches the army...

There is a long history in theater of the "one man show," in which a single performer must hold the attention of the audience for the entire runtime. Sometimes they play more than one character, sometimes they play just one character, but they are always the focus. Over the years, cinema has created its own version of the one man show, where only one actor appears onscreen for the majority of the runtime. Occasionally we might hear someone offscreen or in voiceover or get a quick flashback with other actors, but for the vast majority of the movie, we're stuck looking at just one face. That takes some serious skill to pull off, no matter how good-looking the face might be.

While many works of Richard Matheson ended up on the small screen, the author was a giant when it came to genre. From post-apocalyptic monsters to gremlins on a plane, Matheson fathered a treasure trove of speculative stories that have since inspired countless other writers, including Stephen King. King said of the late Matheson: “[He] fired my imagination by placing his horrors not in European castles and Lovecraftian universes, but in American scenes I knew and could relate to.” And of all his homegrown writings, Matheson’s short story “Button, Button” may very well be his most approachable. For everyone can understand the allure of immediate wealth, even if that windfall comes with strings attached. Matheson, however, wove this universal desire into a unique and uncanny moral quandary — one where the offer is not only too good to be true, it also has fatal consequences.

Despite the cliffhanger ending in season 4, The Last Man on Earth season 5 never happened due to the show's cancellation. The Last Man on Earth was a high-concept sitcom pitch from Phil Lord and Chris Miller that took a funny look at the typical post-apocalyptic scenario. Will Forte stars as Phil Tandy Miller, seemingly the last man alive after a virus wiped out the population. As Phil gradually meets more survivors, awkward social situations make this dystopian existence even worse.
As with many Phil Lord and Chris Miller projects, The Last Man on Earth was a critical success with each season being met with strong reviews and Forte earning two Emmy nominations, for acting and writing. Unfortunately, The Last Man on Earth's ratings were never strong enough to maintain the high-concept production, and the show was ultimately canceled after its fourth season. From creeping dread to heart-stopping jump scares, the horror genre is immensely popular and constantly evolving, and one of its biggest appeals is its versatility with underappracited subgenres. However, the most well-known horror movie genres tend to dominate the horror world. There are countless demonic or ghostly tales of terror, slasher movies, and stereotypical horror movie characters. However, there are many more ways to scare people while still telling a good story. Horror has countless obscure and underrated horror subgenres, giving audiences new settings, twists, and scares.
Some of the more obscure horror movie subgenres are inventive and surprising. Some, like art horror, prioritize stunning visuals while the plot keeps audiences guessing. The most creative horror movies may have an unexpected villain, like the eco-horror subgenre, or mix horror themes with other genres, like Westerns. Even if a horror movie subgenre is less well-known, it does not mean that filmmakers have overlooked it,...

The former Saturday Night Live funnyman and current star of the poignant documentary Will & Harper is reportedly in talks to star in the next film by comedy director Peter Atencio, a Dirty Harry-style feature called Street Justice.
In new reporting from Deadline, Ferrell will produce and star in the new film for 20th Century Studios, being touted as "a Dirty Harry type who goes about taking justice into his own hands," based on a script and original idea by screenwriter David Callaham. This will be the second collaboration between Callaham and Atencio, who previously worked on Jean-Claude Van Johnson together, an action comedy television series starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as a heightened version of himself that they worked on together for Prime Video.

This weekend is The International Edgar Allan Poe Festival & Awards, commemorating the 175th anniversary of Poe's death in Baltimore. Taking place from October 4th - 6th, the event also celebrates a big milestone: the 60th anniversary of Roger Corman and Vincent Price's The Masque of the Red Death.
The event includes a panel of special guests to talk about the film and its legacy, including Victoria Price, whom I had the pleasure of speaking with to talk about the importance of the film, Vincent Price's lasting impact, and her Halloween celebrations.
The festival will have a 60th anniversary screening of Roger Corman and Vincent Price's The Masque of Red Death, which is a personal favorite of mine.

Franca Bettoia, the Italian actress who starred opposite Vincent Price in the 1964 cult sci-fi film The Last Man on Earth, has died in Rome, her family told the Italian news agency Adnkronos. She was 88.
Bettoia was married to Italian actor Ugo Tognazzi — he starred in the 1978 movie La Cage aux Folles in the part played by Robin Williams in Mike Nichols’ 1996 adaptation The Birdcage — from 1972 until his death from a cerebral hemorrhage in 1990 at age 68.
In The Last Man on Earth, directed by Ubaldo Ragona and Sidney Salkow, Bettoia portrays Ruth, a woman who, with the help of Price’s Dr. Robert Morgan, is fending off the effects of a plague that has turned humans into vampiric creatures.
Filmed in Rome, produced by Robert L. Lippert and distributed by American International Pictures, the movie was based on Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel I Am Legend. The author then co-wrote the screenplay credited as Logan Swanson.

There have been vampire flicks and apocalypse movies since the dawn of cinema. The two horror staples have mixed before, creating their own subgenre with notable works like 1964s The Last Man on Earth and 2007s I Am Legend. However, there is one such movie that often escapes notice: Jim Mickles 2010 Americana-flavored Stake Land. Following a modern cowboy, Mister (Nick Damici), and his pseudo-son, Martin (Connor Paolo), the two traverse the back roads of small-town America in the wake of a vampire outbreak. As they head north in their ramshackle car, they meet a nun, Sister (Kelly McGillis), a pregnant woman, Belle (Danielle Harris), and a former marine, Willie (Sean Nelson). This piecemeal family has no great destination in mind or revenge plot to enact. Stake Land's loose narrative allows Mickle to play with his setting and world. No aesthetic choice is made haphazardly in Stake Land; the nostalgic rural communities,...

Some of That '90s Show season 2 guest stars have connections to the sitcom franchise, whether by reprising roles or having worked behind the scenes. Will Forte's cameo as Kiefer, a cocaine-addicted spiritual scam artist, is a nod to his previous work as a writer and producer on That '70s Show. Forte's career trajectory includes starring roles in MacGruber, The Last Man On Earth, and various other films and TV shows after his time on That '70s Show.

Richard Mathesons novel I Am Legend has seen several iterations, including Vincent Prices The Last Man on Earth, and Will Smiths directly titled I Am Legend. Each of these presents a compelling thriller that uses the concept of isolation to build a unique, and terrifying, setting, but the best film version of the story is 1971s The Omega Man. Starring Charleton Heston in the lead role, The Omega Man is at the top of the post-apocalyptic genre. With its unique style and daring storytelling, any apocalyptic horror fan thats worth their salt should be well familiar with Boris Sagals magnum opus.

Will Forte is checking into The Four Seasons comedy series starring Tina Fey, Steve Carell, and more
The upcoming reimagining of The Four Seasons needs to make some room because Will Forte is checking in. Universal Television is producing the all-new series adaptation from Tina Fey, Land Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield. Forte joins Fey, Steve Carell, Colman Domingo, Kerri Kenney-Silver, and Erika Henningsen for the show written by Fey, Fisher, and Wigfield.
The Four Seasons, a retread of the 1981 Universal movie of the same name, is a co-creation between Fey, her 30 Rock co-star Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield. Details about Forte’s character remain a mystery, though the cast list for Alan Alda’s 1981 comedy could provide some clues. In 1981’s The Four Seasons, three couples vacation together every season. After one couple divorces, feelings of betrayal and more spawn criticisms of one another, but the things that keep them together are stronger than those that might tear them apart. The 1970s was not just a prime decade for science fiction movies but an era in which those movies carried even more urgent messages about the many problems facing humanity on Earth. Sure, the sci-fi outings of the 1950s and early ‘60s carried warnings about nuclear destruction and radiation too, while the latter half of the ‘60s began delving into sociological examinations of race, youth culture, and radical politics. But the ‘70s introduced a whole new set of crises into the genre, in tandem with the growing awareness of such issues in the real world.
Climate change, unchecked population growth, lack of food, heavy pollution—all of those were prevalent in the science fiction cinema of the ‘70s, along with monsters, nuclear holocausts and other holdovers. But the messages seemed to hit harder, at least in the moment, because they were ripped in many cases right from the headlines. Decades later,...

Films about the last person on Earth don't focus on the catastrophe, exploring themes of isolation and humanity. Although not extensively done, these movies have provided a fascinating insight into post-human Earth. From horror to comedy, these films about the last person showcase unique exploration of being human.

A gaudy and campy basketball docudrama sung in the key of Ryan Murphy (though Murphy isn’t involved in this production), Clipped bites off far more than it can chew. Adaptations of books into movies can differ vastly due to intentional choices by filmmakers. Reimagining classic stories, like Shakespeare plays and Austen novels, in modern contexts is common. The same source material can result in two movies with wildly different end products, both valid in their own ways.
Filmmakers have to make a lot of choices when adapting a book, and this means that two different adaptations can end up looking nothing like each other. Sometimes, this is completely intentional, especially when a filmmaker decides to radically change a story that has already been told many times before. This explains why so many Shakespeare plays and Austen novels are often reimagined in modern contexts.
Watching two movies which use the same source material highlights just how many decisions each adaptation makes. Book lovers often have gripes when their favorites are adapted in ways that they don't agree with, but two...

Francis Lawrence's 2007 post-apocalyptic drama "I Am Legend" is based loosely on the celebrated 1954 novel by Richard Matheson. The original novel is set in the near future of 1976 when a destructive war has ravaged the Earth, and a horrible virus has infected the survivors. The virus transforms its victims into pale-skinned, nocturnal ghouls with an appetite for human blood, more or less making them vampires. The novel follows Robert Neville, seemingly the last human alive, as he tries to survive in a ravaged Los Angeles and study the virus during the daylight hours. The title comes from the novel's famous twist ending.
"I Am Legend" was adapted to film in 1964 as "The Last Man on Earth," and in 1971 as "The Omega Man," before Lawrence's 2007 version. Lawrence's version transposes the action to New York and makes Neville (Will Smith) into a surviving virologist attempting to come up with a cure for the vampire virus.

O.J. Simpson's death hasn't changed anyone's mind about his perceived guilt despite being acquitted of murder. That is, except for a movie called The Juice. Filmmaker Joshua Newton struggled with casting for the film, initially targeting Owen Wilson for the lead role. Newton has overcome numerous hurdles in his filmmaking career, including technical and legal challenges in his previous work, Beautiful Blue Eyes.
Disgraced NFL athlete, actor, and celebrity O.J. Simpson passed away on April 11, and in the two weeks since then, people have hardly eulogized the man rhapsodically. Most people agree that Simpson seemed guilty of murdering his wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend, Ronald Goldman, despite being acquitted 30 years ago. Simpson has even morbidly teased his guilt, whether it's in footage where he pretends to stab someone to death or it's his book If I Did It, where the word 'if' is practically hidden in the title formatting.
