Oh man, I entered the cinema without any particular film in mind. Saw the poster and under it said punjabi film. There were few other films that I already had watched last week and a few new ones. I entered the theatre for work weather wife. Art pure art. I have watched Hindi cinema from before my birth that was called parallel cinema. Film is so unpredictable and held me to the seat till the end. The acting of all three lead actors is amazing. Story is intriguing and I had to read some subtitled for hard core punjabi in it. Other than that it is a great film. Lead actor Harpreet Sandhu carries the film on his shoulders, other two justify the character well. There isn't any boring moment through the film but I enjoyed the songs as well. It seems to be shot in Vancouver. Other thing I really liked was music, excellent romantic stuff.
Excellent film. Harpreet Sandhu is very intriguing as Vick. Nicely directed drama. Beautiful scenery. film is so gripping and I held my breath to know what happens next. Performance of Harpreet Sandhu is world class and Reema Nagra, Dilbag Brar pull off very convincing performances. Looking at the film, it does not look like it is a debut film. Cinematography and music are really well done. The flow of the story creates suspense in the mind and for the whole screening I wanted to know what happens next. In the interval scene, I really cried. I never thought I would cry in a movie because movies aren't real but the realism of this movie is exceptionally well done. I would give it 10/10 but since I don't know anything technical about the movies so I'd give it 9/10
Watched this film in Toronto right before i was headed back to LA. I had read in LA about it's academy qrun. Film itself brings a very strong perspective from the makers and a strong message. It raises an issue that may not have been discussed without making a film. This truly is meaningful cinema. It has all the commercial elements and a true blend of Hollywood and bollywood. As the acting and story part are strong, the music and songs are as good as that. I really loved a night song, don't remember the name but it was good. English subtitles were properly done which isn't expected of a Hindi movie. The shooting style is classic 70s but set in 2013. lead actress Reema Nagra does a decent job along with lead villain Harpreet Sandhu and protagonist Dilbag Brar. Little girl does an OK job too. I couldn't find anything negative in the film. Overall it is a very well done dramatic film. A must watch, entertaining and intriguing at the same time.
Checked it out in LA 5. I have had a few East Indian Punjabi friends from BC so familiarity with the culture helped understanding the film. It is true that women get killed in that culture if caught in an extra martial affair. Film raises the issue in a subtle manner and explores the character of dimple, a wannabe bollywood and her needs and wants from a perfect husband. I really liked the music, stunning songs and romantic music. Portrayal of CJ is great and in a normal condition that happens around Vancouver a lot, dimple would've been killed but his decision of carrying on the relationship for their daughter is against all odds in a society. I loved the performance of writer, director, star Harpreet Sandhu, Reema Nagra and Dilbag Brar. Film is gripping throughout and once again musical pieces are nice.
As Punjabi audience witnessed opening of the film along with Canadian International FTV Festival on November 12 and highlighted on prestigious print media such as straight.com and toronto.com. The film proves to be the most intriguing Punjabi film in the history of Punjabi Cinema. Vick (Harpreet Sandhu) handles the film throughout with international class acting skills along with edgy performance of Dimple (Reema Nagra). Other lead Dilbag Brar has done an exceptionally good job. The supporting cast of the film really supports as pillars and moves the story forward in a very smooth manner. Acting skill of Harpreet Sandhu has proved to be par excellence. Never has it happened in the Punjabi Cinema that an actor of his caliber has been seen. His jawdropping performance as Vick wins him a nomination as best actor at Canada International FTV festival award and leaves the jury with an everlasting impression of Punjabi actor.
