Game of Thrones is well known for its epic battle sequences. A standard for the show was to boast an incredible, large-scale battle scene every year, on par with a big screen movie. The Battle of Blackwater, the Battle of the Bastards and the clashes in the final season were always amazing.
The must-watch extras on the various season Blu-Ray sets highlight the care that goes into these sequences. That’s no surprise, given they involve hundreds of extras, numerous cameras, and the possibility of things going wrong. Well, it looks like something did.
While there had been reports of the odd minor injury over the years on the show, Game of Thrones and HBO are now under fire thanks to newly uncovered evidence of a serious injury suffered by a stunt worker that sparked a major lawsuit.

HBO is once again defending its stunt safety on the set of Game of Thrones, after a video of a set accident that occurred in 2014 was leaked. Andy Pilgrim, who served as a stunt performer on the HBO series, fractured his ankle while working on season 5 episode "Hardhome." He later sued HBO subsidiary Fire & Blood Productions, settling for £500,000, or $686,000.
Deadline has now received and reported on footage of the incident, which came from Wayne Michaels — the father of Casey Michaels, another stunt performer injured while working on Game of Thrones. Although the outlet has not shared the video publicly, it described its contents, which appear to be in line with Pilgrim's recollection of events.
Per Deadline, Pilgrim's legal complaint alleged that the stunt causing his injury had been altered in the time between rehearsal and filming. The scene being filmed reportedly involved a 16-foot wooden wall, which stunt performers were...

A video showing a stunt going terribly wrong on the set of Game of Thrones has started a wave of concern about how HBO handles safety. The clip, shared with Deadline, shows stunt performer Andy Pilgrim getting hurt during a shoot back in 2014 for Season 5’s episode Hardhome.
In the video, Pilgrim is standing on a large wooden wall, about 16 feet tall. It suddenly tips forward and slams into the ground. He was supposed to fall with it safely. Instead, he ended up with a badly broken ankle.
Pilgrim later said that during rehearsals, the wall was lowered slowly using a crane. But during the actual shoot, the stunt was changed. The wall dropped without control, bounced when it hit the floor, and caused the injury. He also said there were more performers on the wall during filming than during the practice run, and they were placed higher up.

A leaked video showing a stunt gone wrong during the filming of Game of Thrones has led to renewed questions about how safe the sets really are on HBO productions. The clip, obtained by Deadline, shows stuntman Andy Pilgrim getting seriously injured back in 2014 while working on Season 5’s episode Hardhome.
In the 30-second footage, Pilgrim is seen on a massive 16-foot wooden wall that tips forward suddenly and crashes to the ground. He ends up with a broken ankle. The wall was supposed to be lowered gently using a crane during filming, just like it had been during rehearsal.
But according to Pilgrim, that’s not what happened on the actual shoot day. He said the wall dropped in an “uncontrolled and ungoverned fashion,” which caused it to bounce and badly injure him. More people were involved during the actual shoot compared to rehearsal, and they were placed higher up on the wall.

Exclusive: HBO has continued to defend stunt safety standards on the Game of Thrones franchise after Deadline obtained footage of a second on-set accident following our report about the $9.6M payout to performer Casey Michaels.
The 30-second video captures the moment that stunt performer Andy Pilgrim, whose credits include Harry Potter and The Batman, suffered a serious ankle fracture in November 2014 during production on Season 5 episode Hardhome.
Four years later, Pilgrim sued Fire & Blood Productions, the HBO subsidiary responsible for producing Game of Thrones. He later settled his complaint for £500,000, according to the stunt pro’s barrister. Pilgrim declined to comment.
Deadline has seen a copy of Pilgrim’s original legal complaint, which lays out his account of the accident, including how the stunt was changed between rehearsal and filming. His allegations bear a striking resemblance to those made by Michaels, who suffered a career-ending ankle break on the final season of Game of Thrones,...

There are very few shows in the history of television that turned in as many iconic episodes as Game of Thrones. "Baelor," the penultimate episode of the first season, shocked audiences when it beheaded Ned Stark, who seemed to be the main character. "The Rains of Castamere" did it again a couple seasons later when it killed Robb and Catelyn Stark at the Red Wedding, an event that has now entered the popular lexicon. Episodes like "Hardhome" and "Battle of the Bastards" set a new benchmark for what an action scene could look like on television. But for my money, the best single episode of the show came at the very end of season 6: "The Winds of Winter."
I don't think this episode has the most shocking moment in the series; it's hard to top the killing of your main characters. But I do think it lines up more...

Game Of Thrones: The Most Iconic Episode From Each Season(Photo Credit –YouTube)
Few shows have redefined television the way Game of Thrones did. Over its eight-season run, it delivered unforgettable moments, brutal deaths, power plays, dragon battles, and twisted betrayals that kept audiences glued to their screens week after week. Each season brought its own emotional peak, and while fan debates about the final season rage on, there’s no denying the series’ impact on pop culture.
But which episodes rose above the rest? IMDb’s user ratings give us an unfiltered view of audience sentiment, capturing what fans valued most, whether shocking plot twists, cinematic warfare, or satisfying character arcs. And interestingly, the most beloved episodes weren’t always finales or premieres; they were often those that took risks and changed the story forever.

There had been many celebrity cameos in Game of Thrones, but because viewers were so focused on the show’s intriguing political storyline, they hardly noticed these blink-and-you-miss-it moments. For sure, not many remember a Tolkien descendant once joined the fantasy series.
It’s a great homage to the beloved The Lord of the Rings franchise, a work of literature that author George R.R. Martin grew up reading. The influence of J.R.R. Tolkien’s story in A Song of Ice and Fire can be easily observed, so this thoughtful gesture was very precious for fans.

What’s your favorite scene from Game of Thrones? That’s a hard question, isn’t it? There had been lots of epic moments in the series to choose only one, but Kit Harington knew exactly which scene he would always treasure forever.
Season 5 gave us an unforgettable viewing experience ever in Hardhome, one of the most critically acclaimed chapters in the fantasy saga. There was one sequence here that truly stood out for Harington, and it was a scene made straight out of a horror movie.

Throughout Game of Thrones’ eight-season run, we’ve witnessed some of the most epic battle scenes that have become part of its legacy. Pulling off intense fight scenes was hard enough, but delivering an epic performance on television while making sure it passed the standards of the higher-ups was the real challenge.
Director Miguel Sapochnik entered the franchise a little late in Season 5, but his involvement in the show became crucial as he was tasked with the heavy mission to lead and oversee some of the biggest events in the story. As a newcomer, he felt the showrunners did not entirely trust him.

Ten years ago, Game of Thrones did something rare: it made you forget to blink. Hardhome, the eighth episode of Season 5, did not merely shake the table; it flipped it over and left the pieces scattered in a snowstorm of dread.
It wasn’t just another hour of Game of Thrones chaos; it was lightning bottled, sharpened, and hurled into TV history. But the same episode that carved the Night King into our nightmares also quietly set him up for a downfall so creatively tragic it’s still debated in Reddit crypts and X scrolls. Beautiful. Brutal. Brilliant. And in some ways, broken. If Hardhome gave us poetry for the Night King. Season 8 gave us punctuation.
And the sentence, unfortunately, didn’t deserve that period!

There are more than a few things in common between Game of Thrones, HBO's generational epic fantasy hit, and The Last of Us, its zombie apocalypse drama that just closed out its second season. Showrunner Craig Mazin has admitted to being "a Thrones fanatic," which you could surely guess if you watched the giant snowbound zombie battle from early this season and thought of the Game of Thrones episode "Hardhome." Plus, the two stars of the show — Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey — both broke out on Game of Thrones, playing Oberyn Martell and Lyanna Mormont.
Mazin serves as co-showrunner on the series with Neil Druckmann, the driving creative force behind The Last of Us video games. Druckmann also seems like a Game of Thrones fan; or at least, he's a fan of the creators. In The Last of Us Part II, just as players take control of lead character Abby,...

In 2018, 27-year-old Casey Michaels was one of many stunt professionals playing undead wights on the set of "The Long Night," the episode where the Night King and his army of the dead fought against the living at Winterfell. In one stunt, Michaels and 26 other performers had to drop approximately 12 feet onto a landing rig below. The first take went fine. Then, Michaels alleges that stunt coordinator Rowley Irlam told them to drop "like a pencil." Since they were playing zombies, they wouldn't be able to spot their landings, and he would "call anyone out" who looked down. An assistant stunt coordinator claimed that, between takes thick crash mats were swapped for thinner ones. According to Michaels, the switch was made to increase dramatic effect and the performers were not told.
On the second take, Michaels landed with all her weight on her left ankle. “I hit the floor and heard my bones breaking underneath me,...

Last week on The Last of Us, the show did what very few shows are willing to do: kill the main character, in this case Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal). Fans of the video games were expecting this to happen. It was a huge moment, but it was almost overshadowed by a sequence invested strictly for the TV show: an attack by a horde of zombies on the walled settlement of Jackson, which is currently buried in snow.
Game of Thrones fans were instantly reminded of the season 5 episode "Hardhome," where Jon Snow defends the walled town of Hardhome from a zombie attack in the snow.
The Jackson battle in The Last of Us was almost too similar, At the least, it felt like showrunner Craig Mazin had the Massacre at Hardhome on his mind when conceiving the sequence. The Hollywood Reporter brought up the Game of Thrones comparison without mentioning "Hardhome" specifically,...

Last week, The Last of Us Season 2 presented a major twist when it killed a fan-favorite character. While the game fans knew about the inevitable, hardly anybody could have expected the death to occur so early, in the second episode of the Season.

Isabela Merced, who plays Dina, revealed that Tlou Season 2 will not go light on its fans with the new revenge arc. She added that the show’s primary point is to make us suffer.

The following post contains massive spoilers about The Last of Us Season 2 episode, “Through the Valley”
The tagline for Season 2 of The Last of Us warned fans that “every path has a price.” In Episode 2, “Through the Valley,” the bill came due.
Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal) was brutally killed by Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) in front of his surrogate daughter, Ellie (Bella Ramsey). Joel’s death was an act of revenge set in motion by his killing spree five years earlier at the Firefly compound, when he saved Ellie’s life. Among the several people Joel murdered was Abby’s father, a doctor who was going to operate on Ellie to find a cure to the cordyceps outbreak and likely leave Ellie dead in the process.
“You can't just commit acts of violence, walk away, and have your story end,” The Last of Us co-creator Craig Mazin teased after last week’s season premiere.

Author George R.R. Martin might be slightly behind in his writing schedule, but there is no argument that when he delivers, it is truly something to marvel at. The same sentiment is echoed in the critically acclaimed adaptation of Martin’s books, Game of Thrones.
Despite writing the source material, Martin also wrote some episodes for the HBO juggernaut. One of these episodes was included in a list of perfect TV episodes by a major publication. In response, Martin simply accepted the tall order of praise.

However, to the surprise of many fans, the episode that was deemed perfect by Martin wasn’t season 5’s Hardhome or season 6’s Battle of the Bastards. Instead, the episode came much earlier in the show’s run. Here is why it is widely revered among Game of Thrones fans to the point of perfection.

The second season of The Last of Us premieres on HBO and Max in just a couple weeks. As you can see from the official trailer, sh*t is going to get real. A new character named Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) will seriously disrupt the lives of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), and at one point it looks like an army of infected zombies will attack the town of Jackson, Wyoming, where our intrepid twosome put down roots at the end of the first season.
The attack happens in the depth of winter, with zombies throwing themselves against the wooden walls of the town. For Game of Thrones fans, it might recall the Massacre at Hardhome from the show's fifth season, when the Night King and his White Walkers sicced hordes of wights on a vulnerable wildling settlement. According to showrunner Craig Mazin, that's intentional.

George R.R. Martin’s medieval high-fantasy epic, A Song of Ice and Fire, has the potential to be one of the best modern works of fiction ever published. But HBO’s Game of Thrones raised it to the peak of pop culture fandom alongside elite literary novels like Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and Rowling’s Harry Potter, which were also given a similar live-action adaptation treatment.
Game of Thrones [Credit: HBO]
However, this is where the similarities end. While Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter were masterfully curated into live-action films by brilliant directors, Game of Thrones hardly had the same luxury, mainly due to the creative team behind the TV show not having access to the finished source material.
Without the final two books in the series, the writers were left to craft their own endings and their own version of a grand finale to the story that Martin had started.

In a show as dense and complicated as Game of Thrones, it is hard to be completely consistent. The writers are ultimately fallible, and with so many plots, characters, and motivations—and so much worldbuilding and lore—sometimes things are forgotten, even by the people whose job it is to write the show. From Season 6 onwards, showrunners found themselves with no source material to rely on, which explains why so many contradictions started to take over the narrative.
By the end of Game of Thrones, these inconsistencies would build up to be one of the many things fans complained about the show. At the end of the day, the lack of cohesion led to the show's infamously unsatisfying conclusion. Game of Thrones’ best White Walker episode marked a departure from George R.R. Martin’s books, and was better off because of it. The White Walkers were a crucial part of the show from the very beginning, appearing in the pilot’s ice-cold open and serving as the overarching threat almost all the way through to Game of Thrones’ ending. At that point, of course, they were surprisingly dealt with just halfway through the final season, a controversial decision given how important they were supposed to be.
While their fate was divisive, they nonetheless served up some truly iconic moments and were part of a number of Game of Thrones’ best episodes. The army of the dead marching past Samwell Tarly in the season 2 finale, the Night King turning a baby into a White Walker, and Hodor holding the door against the wights are all unforgettable. However, no White Walker sequence or episode matches “Hardhome.

Game of Thrones redefined TV, burning through the pop-culture landscape like one of Daenerys Targaryen's dragons and destroying everything in its path. That's true of the entire series, which became one of the biggest, most talked-about shows we've witnessed throughout its run, right through to Game of Thrones' ending (as controversial as it was). While that may have been an ignominious way to go out, at its best, Thrones was unlike anything seen before.

Persona managed to give me a shock before I even started watching it. Its IMDb entry lists it as running two hours and twenty-one minutes, which seemed a bit excessive for the film’s plot. Thankfully, when I put it on, the actual running time was a more reasonable hour and forty-two minutes, and even that was a bit longer than needed.
A woman wakes up with no memory of who or where she is. Where is a filthy house, one that looks like it’s been used as a squat for the homeless. Actually, it’s serving a much more sinister purpose, its doors locked and windows boarded up, it’s serving as a prison for her.
On the TV, the news is reporting another woman is missing, abducted from a nearby mall. Could...

“Time to make an end to it” was the last dialogue spoken in A Dance With Dragons – the fifth book published in the series titled A Song of Ice and Fire. But that was 13 years ago and The Winds of Winter has been in the works ever since. Ironically, George R.R. Martin has somehow fooled us all into believing that “time to make an end to it” would apply to his entire literary series and not just a single book in the middle of it.

The epic saga of dragon queens and mad kings has driven the readers into a long-gestating pit of bitterness and resentment. Without an end in sight, A Song of Ice and Fire stops in media res and remains there for over a decade, taunting us with unfinished plotlines and an outrageous live-action series with a bad ending.

Once upon a time, "Game of Thrones" was the biggest television phenomenon any of us had seen in years — and then, in May of 2019, the eighth and final season concluded as we all looked around and collectively wondered what the hell happened to a once-great show. To say fans hated season 8 of "Game of Thrones" as well as the finale, "The Iron Throne," is an understatement; some people quite literally wrote a petition to HBO asking the network to do the whole final installment again so they could make it good in a second go-around, and if you ask any random viewer what they thought of the "Game of Thrones" finale, they'll probably tell you it stunk and then hold you captive in a conversation about why it stunk.
I am one of those viewers, to be perfectly clear. I friggin' loved "Game of Thrones" and yet,...

One of the hard-earned truths of Game of Thrones is its sudden and shocking tragedies that not only catch the viewers unaware but leave them shaken for weeks after. But despite placing no value on a hero’s life and killing off fan-favorite characters without hesitation, such bold strokes on the creators’ part only invited more frenzied fanatics to the show instead of putting them off.

The highest-rated episodes of fantasy TV shows often feature game-changing events alongside incredible dialogue and visuals. These stellar fantasy series have strong writing overall, with episodes that stand out due to a myriad of factors. A show's best episode may be its first, setting up the story with mystery and potential for future seasons.
The best fantasy TV series of all time claim the best episodes, some of which reach 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Episodes of fantasy TV like this go above and beyond, demonstrating the high points of the series when a game-changing event takes place with incredible dialogue and visuals in its execution. It is not impossible but rare for the highest-rated episode of a series to be a so-called filler episode. Ratings tend to spike when the episode includes a TV moment fans waited years to see, where all the build-up and foreshadowing finally pays off.

Editor’s Note: The following post contains spoilers for “House of the Dragon” Season 2, up to and including Episode 7.
Any “Game of Thrones” fan knows the significance of a penultimate episode. From “Baelor” to “The Rains of Castamere” to “Hardhome” and more, the world of Westeros holds nothing back ahead of its finale, and “House of the Dragon” Season 2 joins that noble tradition.
Episode 7, written by David Hancock and directed by Loni Peristere, spends half of its runtime on exposition — and the other half auditioning dragon riders for Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) to win back the high ground in her family’s civil war. The hour contains some stunning score work from Ramin Djawadi and shots by cinematographer Vanja Cernjul, and an A story anchored by D’Arcy’s performance and Rhaenyra’s drive.

Warning: this story contains spoilers from “House of the Dragon” Season 2, Episode 4 — read at your own risk!
Readers of “Fire & Blood,” George R. R. Martin‘s 2018 novel that inspired HBO’s “House of the Dragon,” have been eagerly awaiting the so-called “Dance of the Dragons” battle for years … and it did not disappoint. The episode that aired on Sunday, July 7 was titled “The Red Dragon and the Gold” and ended with a deathly high-flying spectacle between Meleys, Sunfyre and Vhagar, as ridden by Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best), Aegon Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) and Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell), respectively. Wide-eyed viewers have given the hour a 9.7 rating at IMDb, making it the top-rated episode of the entire series so far.
So just how strong is a 9.7 score? To compare, only four episodes of HBO’s parent series “Game of Thrones,” which aired for eight seasons, fared better than that at IMDb: “Hardhome...

James Bamford’s Hard Home feels like one of those classic thriller movies where, if the cops can’t solve the crime, you just know the victim’s family will! I don’t know if this gives you the ick or not, but it definitely did to me. So, here, the story is all about this scary predator known as the Diablo Killer. He’s been on a killing spree where he always targets women and leaves behind a gruesome signature move—he cuts out their tongues. That’s his twisted way of getting revenge. There’s this girl named Kelly, and her mother is convinced that she’s been taken and killed by this Diablo killer. But wait! Is that really what happened? Or is there something else going on? Can her mom figure it all out? And what about the killer’s motive? Why does he haunt these...

Somebody seems to have a lot of faith in director James Bamford. After years of working as a stuntman and directing episodes of mostly DC Comics-related TV shows, Hard Home is his fourth film to see release this year. The fact that the previous three, Air Force One Down, Jade, and Shadow Land left a lot to be desired is, of course, another matter.
Here he’s working from a script by Mark Shea Price, whose previous credits consist of shorts such as The Mayans Were Right and Raised by Fish. It opens with Mary jogging through the woods and attracting the attention of a Polaroid-wielding psycho when she stops to check out an old cemetery.
He shrugs off being maced, but just as he’s about to kill her,...

We are all set to return to the world of Targaryen politics soon with House of the Dragon Season 2. The Matt Smith prequel series, set 200 years before Game of Thrones, has garnered widespread praise after its premiere in late 2022.
House of the Dragon Season 2 raised several headlines when it continued its filming and was completed in time even after facing the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. However, it faced another significant issue when co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik left the show. According to a recent interview by Matt Smith, fans will feel Sapochnik’s absence in the second season.

Miguel Sapochnik's departure from House of the Dragon will impact the tone of season 2, says Matt Smith. Daemon Targaryen actor Matt Smith acknowledges the challenge of maintaining the Game of Thrones essence without Sapochnik's guidance. Smith says losing a director of Sapochnik's caliber will be felt.
House of the Dragon star Matt Smith addresses the season 2 departure of Miguel Sapochnik, who served as season 1s co-showrunner alongside Ryan Condal. An episode director on Game of Thrones, Sapochnik provided a sense of continuity with the original series as he helped launch HBOs hugely-anticipated GoT spinoff. But big changes are in store for House of the Dragon season 2, as Sapochnik has departed as showrunner, though he continues to be listed as an executive producer.

"All that crazy, hardcore training you made me - thanks to that I'm still alive." You don't say! So maybe training pays off? 101 Films has revealed an official trailer for Jade, an action thriller arriving on VOD this summer. Another of these dime-a-dozen junk action movies being dumped out on streaming and VOD at home. It's from the same stuntman filmmaker as Hard Home and Air Force One Down (ugh). Jade follows a woman who comes between a powerful businessman and a gang leader in their search for a hard drive that could damage the operations of Interpol. The woman is required to use her unique set of skills to retrieve the drive and stay alive. Introducing Shaina West starring as Jade, with an ensemble including Mickey Rourke, Mark Dacascos, Katherine McNamara, Keith Jardine, Steven Michael Quezada, and Chris Bruno. This doesn't seem as bad as Bamford's other action films,...

Game of Thrones season 8 wasn't perfect, but it wasn't the worst season of the show either. The show's issues began in season 5 due to book changes, cuts, and a shift in storytelling. Season 7, meanwhile, suffered from its own episode count and had pacing issues that carried into season 8.
Game of Thrones season 8 remains contentious and disliked five years after it aired on HBO, but it wasn't actually the nadir of the show. The HBO series looked almost untouchable heading into its final season. It was the biggest, buzziest show in the world, capable of dominating the conversation like no other, beloved by fans and acclaimed by critics. That all changed with season 8 and, most of all, Game of Thrones' ending, which received a major backlash.
