12 animation principles can make a shot look engaging and appealing. This film uses around 4 - and that's being very generous.
"Appeal" was certainly left off the (drawing) table.
Most scenes play out as flat as pancake, lacking any sincerity in acting. The girl, called 'Life'(the irony...), flashes a moronic smile throughout most of the film, making her extremely one dimensional, soulless and frankly, retarded. Her movements often feel wooden and very masculine, by no means graceful or even appropriate for her age. The animation looks horrid, falling back mostly on a cheap copy/paste technique of a few existing images. All the characters get the similar 'zero personality' treatment.
The overall pacing in most scenes is tediously bland, making the songs some of the weakest parts in the film.
Proper motivation for all characters is absent.
In addition to the downright bad animation and lazy script, the general art style feels like it was copied from various rejected Disney productions from a bygone era.
The combination of all these problems provides a viewing experience so devoid of any emotional investment or charm, that the only mystery this film ends up offering is why it's being released theatrically.
End result; a whopping 8 million euro bomb audiences in Norway blatantly ignored -- and rightly so.
With an abundance of captivating & innovating animation on display on various streaming platforms today, this farce is so out of touch with reality as its bottom grade straight-to-DVD visuals it is presenting.
There is no animation artistry to be found here. Utterly disappointing.
