Why Netflix likely canceled The Waterfront before season 2
Image
Even though The Waterfront seemed to be one of the more promised new Netflix original series of this summer, the streamer opted to cancel the modest freshman hit rather than giving it a second season. The Buckley family's dark and dangerous business dealings with drug dealers won't continue in spite of a chilling season 2 twist being teased at the end of season 1.

In the weeks following the show's release, The Waterfront season 2 seemed all but guaranteed. The series spent three consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the top 10 most-watched English TV List, and in the US, the show stayed put in the top 10 most popular shows ranking for over a month.

Streaming Ratings: ‘The Hunting Wives’ Takes Top Series Spot
Image
The Hunting Wives bagged a prize in the week of July 28-Aug. 3: the most viewing time for any streaming series in the United States.

The spicy drama from Lionsgate TV and 3 Arts, produced for Starz before moving to Netflix, captured 1.58 billion minutes of viewing for the week, good for the top spot among all series and second overall behind Happy Gilmore 2’s 1.99 billion minutes. Happy Gilmore 2 fell off by 31 percent from its record-setting opening weekend but remained comfortably ahead of everything else on Nielsen’s charts. Netflix’s summer phenomenon KPop Demon Hunters, meanwhile, hit a high in the United States for the fourth consecutive week with 1.1 billion minutes of watch time,...

‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Sets Nielsen Streaming Record As Netflix Dominates With ‘Untamed,’ ‘The Hunting Wives’ & ‘Kpop Demon Hunters’
Image
Happy Gilmore 2 set a Nielsen streaming record in its premiere weekend, putting up the biggest single-week viewing total ever for a film in the company’s Top 10 rankings.

Per the latest Nielsen report, Adam Sandler’s sequel raked in 2.89B minutes viewed during the week of July 21 to 27, with the kicker being that the film didn’t premiere until July 25. It took this Nielsen record from Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, which previously held the title with 2.88B minutes viewed in the week after Christmas in 2022.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Happy Gilmore 2 generated 54% of its watch time from adults 35-64, but it also performed quite well with the 18-34 crowd, which put up 26% of its watch time. The original Happy Gilmore also landed at No. 3 on the streaming movies list with 459M minutes viewed.

Nielsen also said that, since 2018 when the company began measuring streaming viewership consistently,...

‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Gains 29.1 Million Views in Second Week on Netflix
Image
“Wednesday” was once again the most-watched title on Netflix during the week of Aug. 11-17, hitting 29.1 million views in its second week of streaming.

That’s a 42% decrease from the week before, when it debuted with 50 million views in five days. When Season 1 premiered in 2022, it opened with 341.1 million hours watched, or approximately 50.1 million views, then jumped to 411.3 million hours watched, or approximately 60.3 million views, the week after. (Netflix switched from measuring hours watched to views in 2023.) Therefore, Season 2 is having a slower start than Season 1 did in terms of viewership, even if its performance remains sizable.

It should also be noted that the two seasons have been released with different strategies: Season 1 debuted with all eight episodes at once, whereas Season 2 has been broken up into two four-episode drops. That means that fans were able to finish Season 2 Part 1 more quickly than they did Season 1, which could potentially be...

In my house, murder mystery TV shows are basically a year-round obsession. We’re always on the hunt for the next great whodunit, and lately my wife and I have been completely hooked on “Untamed” (look for it later on this list). It’s got everything we love: a great location, flawed, engaging characters, and that slow-build tension that makes you lean in with every clue that drops. But there’s plenty more shows out there right now if you’re craving something dark, twisty, or just plain gripping. So, here are my favorite 7 murder mystery TV shows on streaming right now.

Oscars: Ireland Selects ‘Sanatorium’ For Best International Feature Film Race

Ireland has submitted the Ukrainian-language film Sanatorium as its entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th annual Academy Awards.

Sanatorium was selected by IFTA’s 2025 Selection Committee, which includes Kirsten Sheridan (In America), Rich Peppiatt (Kneecap), Neasa Hardiman (Untamed), Louise Kiely (The Banshees of Inisherin), Aoife McArdle (Severance), Barry Ward (That They May Face The Rising Sun). Streaming Reaches Nearly Half of Total TV Viewing in July

Streaming’s domination of TV viewing continues to edge closer to half of the overall total, with the category hitting 47.3% for the month of July.

Netflix posted a 5% increase month-over-month, lifting the streamer to a record share of 8.8% of TV viewing. The streamer accounted for eight of the month’s top 10 streaming titles, with “Squid Game” ranking as the most-watched with 5.4 billion viewing minutes.

Netflix just saved its most criminally underrated series of 2025
Image
Netflix delivered some much-needed renewal news after canceling a hit action comedy just a few weeks ago. This time, the renewal news is for a hit, dark mystery series from the UK.

Dept. Q season 2 is officially in the works, according to a Netflix press release. Matthew Goode, who stars as Dci Carl Morck, is also returning for the second season of the Netflix original series based on Jussi Adler Olsen's book.

Goode isn't the only season 1 star returning in Scott Frank and Chandni Lakhani's series either! Alexej Manvelov, Leah Byrne, and Jamie Sives will also return to the season 2 cast after that epic season 1 ending. While the team worked together and overcame many obstacles to solve the disappearance of Merritt Linguard, there are still more cold cases to solve. Plus, we still don't know who is responsible for shooting Morck and his partner, which plagued the character throughout the first season.

Eric Bana's Criminally Underrated Mystery Thriller Is a Silent Streaming Hit
Image
One of the most exciting new arrivals on Netflix, the Eric Bana-led breakaway crime drama, Untamed, has been regularly finishing near the top of the streamer's charts since it arrived. So impressive has the show been, boasting a huge 82% Rotten Tomatoes rating from critics, Bana's Special Agent Kyle Turner has now been confirmed to be returning for a second season. Currently at the #10 spot, the adaptation of Jane Harper's 2016 novel is just one of many titles proving popular on the streaming site. At #9 in the list is Adam Sandler's Click, with the 2025 horror flick Locked at...

Streaming Ratings: ‘Untamed’ Debuts at No. 1, ‘Kpop Demon Hunters’ Hits High
Image
Netflix’s Untamed claimed the top overall spot on the streaming charts for its premiere week, and Kpop Demon Hunters continued its momentum with its best mark so far.

Untamed, starring Eric Bana as a National Park Service agent investigating a murder in Yosemite, logged 2.1 billion minutes of viewing for the week of July 14-20 (it debuted July 17). The show led the overall rankings by a sizable amount, coming in about 750 million minutes ahead of Sullivan’s Crossing (1.36 billion) in second place.

Kpop Demon Hunters finished third overall and led all movies with 949 million minutes, its highest total in the four weeks after its June 20 release. In Netflix’s internal figures, the movie has had a remarkably consistent run over the summer, which likely means it will stick around for a while longer in Nielsen’s charts (which lag behind real time by four weeks) as well.

‘Wednesday’ Skyrockets to No. 1 on Streaming Top 10 — Netflix’s 10th Straight Week in the Top Spot | Chart
Image
The Samba TV Wrap report has spent all summer highlighting Netflix’s successes. This week, the streaming giant found a way to top itself.

“Wednesday,” one of Netflix’s all-time biggest hits, returned on Aug. 6. Following nearly three years between seasons, audiences were excited to see Jenna Ortega come back as the titular creepy, kooky, mysterious and spooky Addams family character. With 2.7 million U.S. households watching the first episode in the first five days it was available, it was more than enough to put the show at the top of the streaming chart this week.

It was the 10th consecutive week a Netflix title has held the top spot. It’s also one of seven Netflix entries this week, making it the second-straight week where the streamer has held seven of our Top 10 spots. With the second half of “Wednesday’s” second season coming on Sept. 3, all signs are...

Hit mystery show is still unstoppable on Netflix a month after release
Image
Netflix is no stranger to being the home of many streaming surprises. More often than not, its lesser known original series seemingly come of nowhere to most viewers and become an overnight must-binge success. Adolescence arrived earlier this year as an unexpected hit that everyone couldn't stop watching, and this summer brought another massive new series you couldn't miss.

Previously planned as a limited series, Untamed premiered in July and took off like wildfire. The mystery thriller series stars Eric Bana as a special agent for the National Parks Service investigating a suspicious death in Yosemite with unexpected connections to the park's history. Untamed quickly earned a renewal for season 2 and it's still racking up millions of views one month post-release.

According to Netflix's data released on Aug. 12, Untamed ranked as the third most-watch English-language TV show on Netflix for the week of Aug. 4 to Aug. 11. It's the show's fourth...

5 good Netflix shows still not renewed (or canceled) yet
Image
Netflix has a reputation for canceling a lot of shows, but that's not exactly a fair representation of how the streamer does business. Sure, Netflix cancels a lot of shows, but lately, the streamer has handed out way, way more renewals than cancellations. Still, there are more than a few Netflix shows waiting to be renewed or canceled.

I've shared a list of five Netflix shows still on the chopping block while Netflix makes the decision to renew or cancel them. I also added some predictions. Spoiler alert: things are looking good for most of the shows on the list!

Let's get the list started with one of the most popular Netflix shows of the summer of 2025, The Waterfront!

The Waterfront The Waterfront. (L to R) Jake Weary as Cane Buckley, Melissa Benoist as Bree Buckley in episode 105 of The Waterfront. Cr. Dana Hawley/Netflix © 2025

The Hunting Wives season 2 chances just skyrocketed after the latest Netflix update
Image
The Hunting Wives is one of the Netflix surprises of the summer so far! We had a feeling that, when Netflix scored the rights to the series from Starz, The Hunting Wives had potential, but it's definitely exceeded expectations. Now, things are finally looking good for The Hunting Wives season 2.

For the third straight week, The Hunting Wives, which premiered on July 21, has been in the Netflix Top 10 in the United States, competing with huge hits like Wednesday season 2, Leanne, and Untamed. Netflix just revealed it racked up another 4.7 million views during its third week on Netflix, bringing the total to nearly 16 million views. And that's just in the US. If this were a global release, we'd be talking about an instant season 2 renewal for The Hunting Wives.

And, that's the thing; if The Hunting Wives were a Netflix original series, it would be an even bigger hit and sensation than it already is.

Wednesday Season 2 Breaks Netflix Record: #1 in 91 Countries in Week 1
Image
Wednesdayseason 2 has set an outstanding record just one week after its debut. Wednesday season 2, part 1, is streaming on Netflix, receiving a positive reception and mass viewership worldwide. Season 2 currently holds an 82% score from critics and a 79% score from audiences.

Wednesday season 2, part 1, has set the record for being an English language title ranked #1 in the most countries (91) in its first week. It currently has 50 million views and 201 million hours viewed in just one week. This puts it 43 million views ahead of the next show (excluding Wednesday season 1), which is the new series Untamed.

What Wednesday Season 2's New Record Means Wednesday Season 2 Is A Global Phenomenon

It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that Wednesday season 2 is an instant mega hit. The first season is the most-streamed show in Netflix history, and that's saying something. Netflix has developed a reputation for being the streaming service that develops shows that become instant,...

‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Debuts to 50 Million Views in Just 5 Days on Netflix
Image
“Wednesday” certainly didn’t face a sophomore slump, with the debut of Season 2 racking up a whopping 50 million views in just five days on Netflix.

After Netflix dropped the first part of Season 2 on Wednesday, Aug. 6, the four episodes scored 50 million views through Sunday, Aug. 10, scoring the second most views in a single week across all English-language TV on Netflix, behind only “Wednesday” Season 1. “Wednesday” Season 2, Part 1 also holds the record among English-language TV shows for ranking No. 1 in the most countries (91 total) in its first week.

While “Wednesday” Season 2 tracked behind the Season 1 drop in November 2022, there’s not a perfect comparison between the installments as Season 1 dropped in its entirety while Season 2 only debuted its first four episodes on Wednesday. Netflix has also shifted its measurement methods since “Wednesday” Season 1 first premiered, with Season 1’s viewership tallied as 341.23 million hours views, as compared to the 201.6 million hours viewed during the “Wednesday” Season 2 week,...

‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Debuts With 50 Million Views in Five Days, Matching Season 1
Image
“Wednesday,” one of Netflix’s biggest hits of all time, returned to the streamer with its second season on Aug. 4 and racked up 50 million views in its first five days of streaming.

That puts it right on par with the debut of Season 1 n November of 2022. At the time, the Netflix Top 10 was ranked in order of hours viewed, and “Wednesday” debuted with 341.1 million hours in five days. But divided by Season 1’s runtime of six hours and 49 minutes, that translates to roughly 50.1 million views, just above the new Season 2 statistic.

Though Seasons 1 and 2 appear about even in terms of views, it should be noted that Season 1 premiered with all eight episodes at once, whereas Season 2 premiered with only four episodes — Part 2 will premiere on Sept. 3. Therefore, not only will the currently available episodes continue to rack up viewership in the coming weeks, but another massive viewership spike can be expected next month.

Wednesday Season 2 Tops Netflix TV Shows List ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Netflix has seen Wednesday return to the top of its US streaming charts, with the new season also leading worldwide. Jenna Ortega steps back into the role of the sharp-minded and unsettling Wednesday Addams, whose previous term at Nevermore Academy ended with a mystery solved but with consequences that put her in an unfamiliar position and with the center of attention. This time, she faces the one thing she never wanted: a rise in popularity.

Wednesday Season 2 Ranks Top On Netflix

The second season has landed an 83 percent critics’ score and 80 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, improving its critical reception by ten percent compared to the first season. 'Wednesday' Dethrones Netflix's 'Big Little Lies' Replacement on Streaming Charts
Image
In the most unsurprising streaming news of the week, the long-awaited return of Wednesday has seen the series top the Netflix streaming charts in the U.S. Starring Jenna Ortega as the titular psychic troublemaker, Wednesday Season 2 picks up following the chaotic mystery that surrounded Nevermore Academy in the first season, eventually solved by Wednesday but not without its terrifying consequences. No, not any meaningful fatalities, but fame, with Wednesday returning to school and being faced with her most despised foe: popularity.

With an 82% rating from critics and an 85% score from audiences on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Wednesday Season 2 has so far earned much more success than its first outing, bettering its critical score by 9% at the time of writing. Netflix hasn't confirmed Leanne season 2, but the sitcom deserves a renewal
Image
After its late July release on Netflix, Leanne Morgan's debut sitcom Leanne has been staging quite the success story. The series, which comes from prolific sitcom creator and producer Chuck Lorre, quickly shop up the daily ranking for the top 10 most popular shows on Netflix and hasn't left the ranking since its arrival. All signs are pointing a solid victory for the comedian!

While Leanne's debut ratings on Netflix, clocking in at No. 7 on the weekly top 10 with 2.7 million views and 14.9 million hours watched in its first four days, appear to be a bit muted, that's usually to be expected with original comedy series on Netflix. Those numbers are small compared to those of a thriller like Untamed, but mysteries and limited series tend to have a wider reach.

Admittedly, Leanne falls below the debut of recent Netflix comedy hits like Nobody Wants This and Running Point, though as...

¡Malas noticias!

Netflix Claims 7 of This Week’s Streaming Top 10 Slots | Chart
Image
It’s no surprise that a Netflix title tops the Samba TV Wrap report streaming chart again this week. After all, the biggest streamer by subscriber count has now held the top spot for nine straight weeks, making this a true Netflix summer.

What is a surprise is that the streamer holds the top four spots on the chart this week. Making matters more interesting is that all four of those titles have been available for several weeks, and in one case, more than a month. After five straight weeks with five different chart-toppers, this defies the “here today, gone tomorrow” trend we’ve seen with Netflix content.

Rest assured, there are Netflix debuts on the chart this week – three of them, in fact. That gives Netflix seven total spots on this week’s chart. In other words, total streaming domination. And this week, one of Netflix’s all-time biggest titles,...

'Wednesday' Season 2 Earns a Scarily Impressive Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
Wednesday Season 2 surpasses Season 1 in critical and audience ratings, earning 83% and 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, respectively. The gothic series is currently the most-watched on Netflix globally and in the US, dethroning popular shows like The Hunting Wives. Collider's review praises Season 2, but notes a weaker story due to a two-part break, leaving fans eager for the upcoming episodes.

It's been nearly three years since the brilliant Jenna Ortega starred in the role she seemed born to play, as the titular psychic troublemaker in Netflix's Wednesday. Finally, after a long wait, Ortega is back with the rest of the cast and a host of new faces to bring Part 1 of Season 2 to the world's biggest streamer. However, after such a long hiatus, would fans and critics take to this second season with as much admiration as they did the first?

The answer is yes, with Season 2 officially outperforming its first by several metrics.

‘The Hunting Wives’: Lionsgate’s Kevin Beggs Spills on the ‘Guerilla Marketing Campaign’ That Propelled the Buzzy Hit | Exclusive
Image
Amid a slower summer TV season, audiences have absolutely devoured one show: “The Hunting Wives,” a salacious drama series from Lionsgate TV and 3 Arts Entertainment that explores the scandalous and secret-ridden world of Texas housewives.

Up until two months ago, the show was slated to premiere on Starz before making an unexpected switch to Netflix — and the move certainly paid off. The Brittany Snow and Malin Akerman-led series debuted as the streamer’s third most-watched TV title with 5.2 million views the week of July 21 and grew in its second week to 5.8 million views, coming second only to the Eric Bana-led hit “Untamed.”

The impressive viewership for “The Hunting Wives” — coupled with its undeniable touch on pop culture — marks a big win for Lionsgate TV Group Chair and Chief Creative Officer Kevin Beggs, who first saw the potential in the show from writer-showrunner Rebecca Cutter.

“We always felt that if viewers found it,...

John Wells Has Produced Four Decades of TV Hits, Including ‘The Pitt.’ He Has Some Advice for Hollywood
Image
Since he got his start in Hollywood nearly 40 years ago, John Wells has averaged more successes per decade than most creatives accumulate over an entire career.

The prolific writer, director, producer and filmmaker’s latest feat is The Pitt, a real-time medical drama that spans one 12-hour emergency room shift in a 15-episode season. Reuniting Wells with former ER collaborators R. Scott Gemmill and Noah Wyle, the HBO Max procedural launched unexpectedly into the zeitgeist with its January premiere — thanks in part to weekly drops (how novel!) that saw the audience quickly pass 10 million per episode. This is hardly Wells’ first time scrubbing in for TV. He cut his teeth writing on China Beach, then developed ER with the late Michael Crichton and co-created Third Watch. Along the way, he also made the U.S. version of Shameless, directed four films (including the celebrated adaptation of August: Osage County) and...

WWE Tag Teams Netflix TV Top 10 With New ‘Unreal’ Doc & Pre-SummerSlam ‘Raw’; ‘Kpop Demon Hunters’ Lands On Most Popular Film List As ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Continues Monster Run
Image
The WWE is on a hot streak right now, as illustrated by its presence in Netflix’s Top 10 English TV titles last week with not just one but two projects.

There was, of course, the weekly presence of Raw, which drew 2.7 million views from July 28-August 3 as the last Monday night event before the wrestling promo’s flashy two-day SummerSlam over this past weekend in New Jersey. It placed eighth among English TV titles on Netflix, right about where it usually stands on a weekly basis. Raw has had a pretty constant presence among the streamer’s best performing titles since its Netflix premiere in January.

Coming in at No. 9 was WWE: Unreal where, for the first time, the company lifted the veil on its operations to let audiences behind-the-scenes on the previous “season,” culminating with April’s WrestleMania. With 2.3M views, the series’ debut performance is decent evidence that...
