Exclusive: House of the Dragon and Supergirl actor Milly Alcock will star in Daina Oniunas-Pusić’s dark comedy Thumb.
The project, which was written by Cesar Vitale, winner of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting, follows a lonely woman (Alcock) who mistakenly receives a severed thumb in the mail. She makes it her life’s obsession to return it to the hand it once belonged to, putting her on a collision course that will upend her world forever.
Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman and Greg Lessans will produce for Weed Road, and Richard Saperstein, Brooke Saperstein, Beau Turpin and Annie Saperstein will produce for Bluestone Entertainment. Cameras roll this fall in New York.
Goldsman said, “Cesar Vitale is a unique and exciting new voice on the page, Daina Oniunas-Pusić is an impossibly talented artist behind the camera and none of us can stop watching the extraordinary Milly Alcock.

Welcome to My Favorite Scene! In this series, IndieWire speaks to actors behind a few of our favorite television performances about their personal-best onscreen moment and how it came together.
Flowers are still a wonderful way to say, “Congrats on your recent awards recognition!” But you’d think someone would have sent two-time Emmy nominee Meghann Fahy — the magnetic star of Netflix’s delicious “Sirens,” from showrunner and playwright Molly Smith Metzler — an Edible Arrangement by now. After all, she had one as a scene partner in one of her signature sequences for the Netflix series.
“I actually haven’t gotten one of those yet, which is fine by me, because, girl, I dragged that thing around for what felt like weeks,” the actress recently told IndieWire. “It was very heavy. I would guess like 33 pounds, maybe? Give or take. It’s a real unit.“

Meghann Fahy may have been beloved by fans of The Bold Type for her role of Sutton Brady, but it wasn’t until her turn as Daphne in The White Lotus’ second season that the world really sat up and took notice. Fahy’s expert balancing of sweet and canny, world-weary and naïve in the role earned her an Emmy nomination in Supporting Actress and a massive following.
Earlier this year, she starred in the hit thriller Drop opposite Brandon Sklenar, before appearing in Netflix’s limited series Sirens, which earned her another Emmy nomination — this time in Lead Actress.
In Sirens, Fahy stars as Devon, a woman doing battle with poverty, disappointment, a dependent father and her estranged sister. At her wit’s end when her father is diagnosed with dementia, Devon goes in search of her sister Simone (Milly Alcock), only to find her ensconced in a bizarre...

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" star Glenn Howerton has become best known for playing the cynical, megalomaniacal bar co-owner Dennis Reynolds on the long-running FX comedy series, but his acting background is actually a bit more dramatic. Before he was screaming about being a five-star man or going on some of television's most unhinged tirades, Howerton attended the prestigious Juilliard School for the performing arts, and in 2014, we really got to see him show off his dramatic chops in a big project for the first time. After more than a decade in comedic roles on TV and playing bit parts in films like "Crank" and its sequel and "The Strangers" remake, Howerton took on the role of a personal trainer who got in over his head in the first season of FX's "Fargo."

Meghann Fahy was just as surprised as fans when she was nominated for an Emmy in the best actress in a limited or anthology series or movie category for her role in Netflix’s Sirens.
During her appearance on Wednesday’s episode of Late Night With Seth Meyers, Fahy said she was “100 percent” surprised that she was nominated for her work on the show. “When I tell you that there was not even one conversation about it across the board with anybody on my team,” she told host Seth Meyers. “My team was like, ‘Oh my God!'”
Despite being pleasantly surprised by the nomination, Fahy didn’t have time to immediately celebrate. “I was on set, actually, and so we were filming something and so [my team] called and I was like, ‘This is weird that they’re calling.’ And I answered, and they started screaming. And they were like, ‘And action!

We’ve been talking a lot about groundbreaking Emmy nominations this year, like Kathy Bates as the oldest-ever drama actress nominee for “Matlock.” But here’s another one for the record books that’s been decades in the making: Five of the six nominees in the directing for a limited or anthology series or movie category are women — Shannon Murphy (“Dying for Sex”), Helen Shaver (“The Penguin”), Jennifer Getzinger (“The Penguin”), Nicole Kassell (“Sirens”) and Lesli Linka Glatter (“Zero Day”).
“I look at all of the directing nominees in my category, and they’re more than 90% women, which, in terms of change in the world, is extraordinary,” Glatter says. “And the work couldn’t be more different. … This is what the world is starting to look like, so that we are now feeling more represented and our stories are being told. And this is positive for storytelling on every level.

Netflix’s Sirens broke some stereotypes with Meghann Fahy’s Devon DeWitt, and fans are eager to see how she navigates the next chapter of her life. Created by Molly Smith Metzler, based on her play Elemeno Pea, the dark comedy show was made as a limited series. However, Metzler has not completely turned down the possibility of a second season.
In an interview with Glamour, Metzler expressed her interest in exploring Sirens for a second season. She said:
“I wrote the play 15 years ago. I’ve been thinking about them this whole time. I could write them until the day I die. I’d never say never, but could I do them justice in another season? I’d have to think about it. The fact that so many people are asking is really encouraging.”

Here's one of those bits of midweek TV news that gets more intriguing as it goes on. Riding the buzz from her return as Anna Coleman in Freakier Friday, a resurgent Lindsay Lohan is set to star alongside Shailene Woodley in a Hulu/Disney+ limited series from Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, former showrunners on This Is Us. Per Deadline's reporting, Lohan and Woodley have signed on to star in and executive produce Count My Lies, an adaptation of Sophie Stava's Good Morning America book club backed debut novel.
By the sounds of it, Count My Lies looks primed to join the likes of Netflix's Sirens, The Perfect Couple, and Apple TV+'s Palm Royale in the ever-growing ranks of thrillers about common folk getting tangled up in the messy lives of the rich and powerful. The logline for the series, shared by Deadline, reads as follows: "In Count My Lies,...

It’s hard to describe Netflix’s limited series “Sirens” as a specific genre, which is exactly what attracted series star Meghann Fahy to the project. She plays Devon DeWitt, a woman hovering around the age of 30 and channeling the frustration of her derailed life into “saving” her sister, Simone (Milly Alcock), from the clutches of Simone’s micromanaging heiress boss. Untangling Simone from Michaela Kell (Julianne Moore) requires a weekend of sleuthing around the Kell beachfront estate, bringing both DeWitt and Kell family secrets to light in the process.
Simone manages to evade her sister’s attempts to drag her home to Buffalo to care for their neglectful, aging father for most of the premiere. However, the sisters lay their cards on the table in an emotionally fraught scene early in episode 2 after Devon sneaks back onto the Kell estate to forcibly remove her sister from the house.

Kelly O’Sullivan and Lois Smith will co-star in “The Steel Harp.” The comedy is directed by O’Sullivan and Alex Thompson, the filmmakers behind “Ghostlight.”
It marks one of the first leading movie roles for Smith, a 94-year-old character actress who won a Tony Award for “The Inheritance” in 2021. In addition to starring in the film, O’Sullivan wrote the script. Cherry Jones and Reed Birney co-star in the movie, which recently wrapped production in San Francisco.
Smith plays Hanna, a cantankerous nonagenarian, who patrols the Golden Gate Bridge every day and intervenes when people get too close to the edge. On what was to be Hanna’s last day as a “bridge watcher,” she stops Amy (O’Sullivan), a younger woman as stubborn as Hanna herself, from jumping. As the holiday season sets in, Amy and Hanna challenge each others’ resolve and form a bond.

Netflix’s new erotic thriller, The Hunting Wives, is making waves on the platform’s global TV charts and currently sits at #3, just two weeks after release. The eight-episode series is adapted from May Cobb’s best-selling novelof the same name. The series follows the story of a young woman, Sophie (Brittany Snow), who finds herself drawn into the secretive, scandal-ridden world of an affluent Texas social circle. Things, however, spiral out of control when the body of a young girl, Abby (Madison Wolfe), is found, and Sophie becomes a prime suspect in her murder.
The show is appearing to be a big hit with the audience right after its release, likely due to its nice synergy of soap-opera vibes, murder mystery, and a sneak peek into the lives of suburban elites. Steve Pink alters his trajectory again, eagerly seeking to challenge himself. From 2021’s romantic drama The Wheel, about a couple retreating to the mountains to repair their relationship, the director pivoted to the political drama, The Last Republican, in which he and Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger sought to explore the events of the January 6 Capitol riot. His new film, Terrestrial, abruptly takes Pink into the realm of a psychological thriller with a sci-fi slant.
Pink his perhaps best known for co-writing the black comedy Grosse Pointe Blank and the adaptation of Nick Hornby’s High Fidelity, as well as directing Hot Tub Time Machine and its sequel. He has also directed episodes of the comedy series New Girl, Sirens, Rhett and Link’s Buddy System, Wayne, and The Karate Kid spin-off, Cobra Kai. Pink’s directorial credits show there’s no shortage of nuance to his narrative range.

Pink’s directorial credits show there’s no shortage of nuance to his narrative range.

The Josh Hartnett renaissance continues in full swing following the actor's high-profile roles in the recent hit movies Oppenheimer, Trap, and Fight or Flight. Next up on the Hartnett comeback is perhaps a pair of the most exciting projects for the actor yet. Not only with he star in the Colleen Hoover adaptation Verity next year alongside Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson, but he's the next A-lister headlining an upcoming Netflix original limited series.
Earlier this spring, Hartnett landed the leading role in the still untitled mystery thriller limited series that's set in Newfoundland. In addition to Hartnett, the series also stars Mackenzie Davis and Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton. But now that the show has received the announcement we have been waiting for from Netflix, there are also some more familiar faces joining the cast. That's right, the cast has grown now that cameras have officially started rolling!

If you can believe it, we're already well past halfway through 2025. We have already binge-watched a number of new hit Netflix shows like Adolescence, Ransom Canyon, and Untamed and obsessed over the last seasons of the streamer's biggest fan-favorites like The Night Agent, Ginny & Georgia, Sweet Magnolias, and of course we can't forget the final season of Squid Game.
Before the ball could even drop and welcome us to 2025, Netflix already got started with revealing a handful of release dates to get fans excited. The Night Agent season 2 helped get the year started on an action-packed note in January, as will the second season of teen rom-com series Xo, Kitty and Harlan Coben's latest mystery limited series Missing You.
The start of the year also brought some long anticipated titles like Mark L. Smith's Western miniseries American Primeval, Robert De Niro's debut television role in limited series Zero Day,...

Angie Han Once upon a time, when broadcast ruled the roost, summer was a fallow time for TV. The traditional season would end in the spring, to start up again in the fall; it wasn’t that there were no new shows, but they’d be exceptions in a sea of reruns. Of course, that’s all changed in the past couple of decades, with cable and streaming moving the industry to year-round programming. Now there’s always something fresh to watch, whether it’s sweater or flip-flop weather.
Or … is there?
Technically, yes, we still got hundreds of hours of new TV the past few months: starry launches like Apple TV+’s Murderbot and Netflix’s Sirens and Too Much; new seasons of recent hits like Netflix’s Squid Game, Peacock’s Poker Face and FX/Hulu’s The Bear; revivals of older smashes like Showtime’s Dexter (in...

Israeli actor Alon Aboutboul, known in the U.S. for his roles on the FX series Snowfall and the movies Rambo III, Munich and The Dark Knight Rises, has died. He was 60.
Aboutboul died after collapsing on HaBonim Beach near Tel Aviv on Tuesday morning, his manager Mark Teitelbaum told The Hollywood Reporter.
“Alon was a brilliant actor, a true artist, an Israeli icon … but more importantly, he was a loving father of his four children and a dear friend of mine and many others,” Teitelbaum told THR. “He possessed both a moral and spiritual clarity that is rare to find. As you might imagine, his family is in shock. He will be deeply missed. May his memory be a blessing.”
According to reports, Aboutboul received CPR but couldn’t be revived and had told bystanders, after emerging from the water, that he wasn’t well, according to a report in Ynet.

At first glance, Prime Video’s We Were Liars and Netflix’s Milly Alcock series Sirens have different vibes. But what instantly connects them is their shared obsession with coastal opulence and how that glossy perfection hides something deep. Created by Vampire Diaries fame Julie Plec, We Were Liars is based on E. Lockhart’s bestselling young adult novel. The psychological mystery is set on an exclusive private island where one teenager’s return unlocks a tragic family secret.
Watching it rings a bell to Netflix’s Sirens, a dark comedy limited series starring Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon). She plays Simone, a young woman pulled into the orbit of a wealthy, controlling family on a secluded island estate.
Both shows take place on secluded islands that look like paradise but conceal deep truths. Both have shared aesthetic: luxury homes, curated perfection, and private islands. Yet as the stories unfold,...

With the arrival of the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians this December, a lot of things will be different. One of them will be that Walker Scobell's Percy Jackson is no longer struggling with his identity so much. The demigod son of Poseidon has now entered the big leagues of Greek mythology. Season 2 will explore and adapt Sea of Monsters — the second book in the beloved book series written by Rick Riordan. The Disney+ series has been praised for being true to the source material, and the coming season looks poised to continue that trend. With that in mind, Season 2 will include the iconic Sirens scene from Sea of Monsters, a scene that was not captured in the 2013 film adaptation. Scobell has revealed how much pressure he is under regarding adapting that scene.

While we're waiting for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 to make its premiere on Disney+ in December 2025, there's so much to learn about the upcoming new season. It's been two years since the series first made its premiere and became a not only a hit but a fan-favorite. Soon, that wait will come to an end, but there's a "huge change" from the book in store in season 2.
From the beginning, the Percy Jackson television has made changes from Rick Riordan's popular book series, but series star Leah Jeffries, who plays Annabeth in the show, has now previewed one of the biggest changes yet in a new interview and season 2 preview with Entertainment Weekly. However, it sounds like a change fans might enjoy more than they expect.

Walker Scobell reveals the "terrifying" pressure he feels surrounding Percy & Annabeth's iconic book scenes in Percy Jackson & the Olympians season 2. The upcoming season adapts Sea of Monsters, the second book in the beloved book series written by Rick Riordan.
Percy Jackson & the Olympians season 2's story will include the iconic Sirens scene from Sea of Monsters where Annabeth's fatal flaw is revealed to be excessive pride, also known as hubris. It is a pivotal moment for the couple, who are often referred to as "Percabeth."
This is the first time that the scene will be shown in live action since it was not featured in the 2013 Sea of Monsters movie. While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Scobell admits that "it's almost terrifying" to bring this scene to life considering how much it means to the fans. Check out his additional comments below:

The 2025 Emmy nominations were filled with some jaw-dropping picks, with several actors and programs beating the Gold Derby's odds.
In our latest snap poll, readers said the bids for Zoë Kravitz and Meghann Fahy caused their jaws to drop the widest. Kravitz was previously snubbed at the Emmys for Big Little Lies, but she received sweet justice this week for portraying herself — at least, a fictionalized version of herself caught in a drug-related mishap — on The Studio. In all, the Apple TV+ show received 23 nominations, more than any other first-year comedy in Emmy history.
As for Fahy, she's a former Emmy nominee for The White Lotus whom awards pundits forecasted would be overlooked this year for the Netflix limited series Sirens. But that wasn't the case. She clearly wowed voters in her role of Devon DeWitt, a woman who tries to protect her younger sister Simone (Milly Alcock) from her...

Netflix’s bet on “Ms. Rachel” has already paid off. The YouTube creator’s eponymous show was the seventh most-watched Netflix series in the first half of 2025, accounting for 53.4 million views. It also ranked as the most-watched season of any children’s show in the first half of the year.
That ranking is especially impressive considering that Netflix only released four episodes of the “Ms. Rachel” show. Those few episodes averaged 45 minutes each.

Netflix topped Wall Street’s second-quarter expectations and raised its full-year forecast for revenue.
Earnings per share of $7.19 beat analysts’ consensus by a dime, while revenue of $11.079 billion exceeded the Street’s outlook by a much narrower margin. The bar for revenue was in the $11.06 billion range according to most surveys of analyst sentiment.
As it rolls out a big second half of 2025 on the programming front, Netflix said it was raising its revenue forecast for 2025. The updated guidance calls for revenue between $44.8 billion and $45.2 billion, up from the previous target of $43.5 billion to $44.5 billion.
“The majority of the increase in our revenue forecast reflects the recent depreciation of the U.S. dollar vs. most other currencies, with the balance attributable to continued business momentum driven by solid member growth and ad sales,” the company said in its quarterly letter to shareholders.

Netflix reported its remarkable second-quarter 2025 earnings Thursday and, as per its new custom, the results came sans new subscriber data. However, it did include the streamer’s viewership data dump for the first half of the year.
Wall Street forecast earnings per share (Eps) of $7.08 on $11.07 billion in revenue for the April-June quarter, according to Lseg Data & Analytics. Netflix reported diluted Eps of $7.19 on $11.08 billion in revenue, with that revenue figure being up 16% from last year. Operating margin stood at 34.1%.
That beat Netflix’s own expectations, as well as analysts’, as Netflix had projected revenue growth of 15% and Eps of $7.03, as well as an operating margin of 33% (up approximately 6% from the same period last year).
Netflix said the sales growth was “primarily a function of more members, higher subscription pricing
and increased ad revenue,” adding that “all regions experienced healthy year-over-year revenue growth,” with United States and Canada revenue growing...

The 2025 Emmy Nominations have been revealed, and as expected, there are some big winners and some losers. There are also a number of shocks as well and, perhaps, chief among them centers on the fact that Squid Game has not earned a single nomination. In 2021, the K-drama phenomenon debuted to critical acclaim and widespread popularity on Netflix. The first season earned itself14 Primetime Emmy Awards, winning six of them. Those included Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Lee Jung-jae as Gi-hun) and Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. This time around, the show has been completely snubbed and even Netflix is shocked.
“‘Squid Game’ had an incredible cultural impact. Biggest show in the world. That first season really made Emmy history, and people loved this last season too. I am disappointed for Director Hwang and the cast," Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria told Variety in an interview. "For...

Squid Game, the survival thriller from Korea that still holds the record for Netflix's most-watched show, recently ended its three-season run. Despite a large wait, viewers still tuned in to see how things unfolded and ended in Seasons 2 and 3, which had great viewership numbers as well. Naturally, the streamer is campaigning for the show to sweep the award shows, but this didn't exactly work with the Television Academy and its Emmys ceremony. Squid Game Season 2 did not receive a single nomination, and Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria has something to say about it.
Bajaria spoke to Variety about this weird omission for the Korean giant created by Hwang Dong-hyuk. The show's impact is unmatched, but it is a reality that, after Season 1, things were not the same. The follow-ups just didn't have the same power in terms of cultural effect. Season 1 was well-received by award organizations, and in...

Fans of Sirens received a few welcome surprises on Emmy nomination morning — four to be exact. While the Netflix original limited series was a big hit for the streamer, it wasn't seen as a major awards contender.
That changed this morning, however, when Sirens snagged a quartet of nominations within the Limited, Anthology Series, or Movie categories.
The most notable among those nods was Meghann Fahy, who made it into Best Limited/Movie Actress for playing Devon DeWitt. Though she had been previously nominated for her work on the second season of The White Lotus, Fahy was far from a sure thing in the category.
Prior to nominations, Gold Derby predictions had Fahy ranked 15th in the category, behind actresses like Renée Zellweger from Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy and Kaitlyn Dever from Apple Cider Vinegar, who both missed out on nominations.
Sirens also made it into the competitive directing category with Nicole Kassell,...

When it comes to the recent 2024-2025 TV season, one series dominated viewership in the United States far and above anything else: Season 2 of Netflix’s “Squid Game.” It wasn’t even close: Include multiplatform viewing for all series — broadcast, cable and streaming — and the show dominated. And yet, “Squid Game” was completely ignored this year by Television Academy voters, and the show didn’t receive a single nomination on Tuesday.
It’s not that “Squid Game” isn’t an Emmy show. In Season 1, the Korean-based series received 14 nominations and won six — including outstanding drama directing (for Hwang Dong-hyuk) and lead drama actor (Lee Jung-jae). So how could it be completely blanked in Season 2? Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria was wondering the same thing.
“‘Squid Game’ had an incredible cultural impact. Biggest show in the world,” she told Variety. “That first season really made Emmy history, and people loved this last season too.

Cristin Milioti is no new face in television.
Whether she caught your eye in “Black Mirror,” “How I Met Your Mother,” way back on “The Sopranos” in her first TV role, or during that killer “30 Rock” cameo, her work always stands out in already impressive projects, right down to her Emmy-nominated turn in “The Penguin.”
Milioti’s performance earned her a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie, alongside Cate Blanchett for “Disclaimer,” Michelle Williams for “Dying for Sex,” Rashida Jones for “Black Mirror,” and Meghann Fahy for “Sirens.” On the heels of Tuesday’s nomination announcement, IndieWire caught up with the artist formerly known as Sofia Falcone (it’s Gigante now!) about the recognition, revisiting the character, and suiting back up for “Black Mirror” Season 7.
The following interview has been edited and condensed for length and clarity.
