This was a pretty fun horror anthology. A couple of the segments are truly great. I would call the final segment real art. The music and sound effects are very atmospheric and well done. I also really appreciated the practical effects. There is really only one segment I didn't like overall. I fault the story in that segment as being too unoriginal and expected. However, the overall movie was great to watch, mostly taking some familiar horror tropes and adding a unique take to them. Any horror movie fan would enjoy this one for sure. I also think there is something here for every horror fan, no matter what subgenres you are into. So, a fun time!
Had the pleasure of screening this on a night where snow was beating down on Arkansas. Perfect distraction! Narrated by Jinxx of Black Veiled Brides, and loosely based on his experiences growing up in an active paranormal house, his segues were the perfect entrance to each story. Comprised of 6 segments, this anthology told a wide variety of subgenres making it a sold horror anthem any fan could grab a hold of. Great character development, pretty impressive special effects and story lines that don't get lost in the mix. There were a couple of stories that stood out above the others for me, but I found something in each that I enjoyed. I wouldn't mind a second go round just to look for what I may have let slip by. Nice flick to enjoy with the lights turned out and some popcorn to munch on. Something for every horror fan!
I missed out on the Kickstarter for the Haunted House movie from Black Veil Brides guitarist Jinxx, and, hearing how it is based on his true story of growing up in a haunted house in Iowa, I wish I had heard of it and that it got funded. This movie was a direct result of that attempt and I am glad it is out there! Jinxx narrates 6 shorts tied together by a haunted house near on of the 7 Spiritual Vortexes in Ojai, CA. All of the shorts are solid, and they definitely ramp up as the powers that be get stronger!! Great special effects and make up in each short, and Gordon does what he does best in the film, which is play a great monster! Score is amazing, and Jinxx does the theme song! I definitely recommend this, and watch without distraction to get all of the little details and social commentary! Now I hope we do get to see Inhabitant someday soon, as a film, novel, or even Graphic Novel!
Really enjoyed the stories of this anthology. Each one built up the anticipation of the next. The CGI in this was very good considering it's an indie. My favorite stories were as follows: 3,5,2,4,6,1. The movie gave me a lynchian vibe. Dark, ominous, and surrealist mood. It also reminded me of VHS which I love. The music score was perfect for each story. You didn't know what to expect after each story which was fantastic. Despite the stories being different it managed to keep the theme of the movie going. I am hoping there will be future ones made and this becomes an anthology franchise. Kudos to all who worked on it.
What a fun film! The Devil's Vortex (2024) delivers six short horror stories, each with its own unique twist. I enjoyed all of them for different reasons-every segment brought something fresh and creepy to the table. The costumes felt thoughtfully designed, and the writing was strong throughout. I'm not sure what the budget was, but the structure and direction were impressive, making the film feel cohesive and engaging.
I discovered this movie through a horror group I'm part of, and I'm glad I did. My favorite short was definitely the second one-I'm a huge fan of Halloween, and creepy kids always take the scare factor up a notch!
