There's no doubt that March was the best month on Netflix of the year. Well, so far. We're still expecting Stranger Things and Wednesday to return sometime in 2025, after all. But March brought so many great Netflix shows, like the second part of Beauty in Black, the blockbuster limited series Adolescence, two Harlan Coben shows, Shondaland murder mystery The Residence, and plenty more. Thankfully, April keeps the good times rolling with lots more great new shows.
In April, there's more than just the high-profile premieres to look forward to, such as the premiere of the third season of Love on the Spectrum on April 2, the animated horror fantasy series Devil May Cry on April 3, the return of How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast) on April 8, and the documentary series Bad Influence: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing on April 9. The Walking Dead franchise kicked off in 2010 with the original series, which concluded in 2022 after 11 seasons. Since then, the franchise has continued through several spin-off series.
The series is based on the comic book of the same name, and it follows humanity in the aftermath of a zombie breakout, following the human behaviors and struggles to survive. Following the end of the original series, three spin-off series continued the story of the original characters, including The Walking Dead: Dead City, which followed Negan and Maggie. Ahead of Season 2, The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 1 has become a hit on Netflix following its first week, per Tudum.

The latest Netflix crime drama to land on its library, Adolescence, continues to break records. As of today, Episode 1 has become the most popular streaming TV show in the U.K. in a single week. It sits at the top of the British ratings charts, making it one of the most successful series for British audiences. The numbers remain solid for the rest of the show's four episodes, speaking highly of the engaging power of Adolescence and its visceral story about why a young boy decides to murder someone.
As reported by Deadline and the BBC, Adolescence has surpassed the numbers held by BBC shows like The Apprentice and Death in Paradise. The streaming statistics were shared by the ratings collection company Barb, and they have confirmed that Adolescence's first episode was watched by approximately 6.5 million viewers during the first week of release. The latest original series from Shonda Rhimes has landed on Netflix with the arrival of the offbeat murder mystery comedy The Residence on March 20. From creator Paul William Davies, the series stars Orange Is the New Black alum and Emmy Award winner Uzo Aduba as detective Cordelia Cupp. The eccentric but brilliant birder takes over the investigation of a murder at the White House during a state dinner — a murder that places many staff members and residents under consideration as a suspect.
By the end of the eight-episode first season, Cordelia cracks the case with the help of FBI agent Edwin Park (Randall Park), leaving no stone unturned in this particular residence. But could The Residence return to Netflix for season 2? While the first season finale doesn't offer any cliffhangers that tease a new case for Cordelia, unlike A Man on the Inside and The Night Agent season 2, our new...

Since 1999, Tyler Perry has been synonymous with portraying the short-tempered but lovable Mabel "Madea" Simmons, giving audiences lots to laugh and think about over several plays and films. However, as his upcoming Netflix film, Madea's Destination Wedding, approaches, Perry admits he's "sick" of playing the title character after all these years.
Perry addressed his long-time role as Madea during an interview on Good Morning America while plugging his latest film, Duplicity, and teasing what to expect in Madea's Destination Wedding. Though Perry has enjoyed some of his greatest successes thanks to Madea, he joked that he's grown tired of playing the role. "I'm so sick of this old broad," he said before going into character, quipping, "What is it, damn it, what is it?!"

Tyler Perry's Duplicity is his latest spotlight of Black talent whose faces millennials will recall from throwback YA series like Sister, Sister (RonReaco Lee) and even The Vampire Diaries (Kat Graham). It looks and feels like it was shot in Georgia, with a by-the-numbers tale centered on racism, justice, betrayal and conspiracy. All the makings of another rinse-repeat of Perry mojo that might end up continuing his streak of underwhelming Rotten Tomatoes scores, due to the story's derivative nature and unfortunate lack hardhitting performances.
Nonetheless, this is the brilliantly minded Perry we're talking about, folks, so be prepared for at least a few plot twists and turns along the way that might keep you seated throughout this new straight-to-Prime Video entry until the final credits roll.

If a director is churning out over 5 movies and TV shows in a single year, you’ve got to know his creative juices have stopped flowing long before that media hits your screen. In a world that is so focused on convenience, not going to the cinema to watch a movie, getting delivery whenever you like, or simply using your phone while watching something because it doesn’t have anything important to say, I think it’s time we admit that we’re the real idiot boxes. Well, at least that’s what people like Tyler Perry make me want to believe. In the name of Black stories, this man has been producing consistently horrendous movies that fuel the stereotypes that Black people have been working to leave behind for years. But hey, bestie, if you’re looking for a lesson in marketing, I think a deep dive into this...

It’s quite a week for stunning new entries into the top five most-viewed movies and shows on Netflix. The lists on Tudum have been updated and highlight some very recent releases. Those have added an edge and been popular with viewers, one doing so in spectacular numbers.
The top five shows include a new tough-to-stomach drama with remarkable direction and camerawork. The show has been a major talking point for viewers this week and has had a huge number of views. It’s joined by two other new releases and a couple of recent favorites.
On the movie list, one new release has been much-awaited but may be a letdown if the critics are right. But then the viewers themselves have the real say, and it has attracted plenty of them so far. Once again there is plenty of variety and something for all the family among the top five movies.

Netflix’s newest crime drama “Adolescence” has been a runaway hit, reaching 24.3 million views in its first four days of availability, making it the streamer’s top show for the week of March 10-16.
The series, hailing from the U.K. and following the family of a young boy accused of murder, was only surpassed in viewership by “The Electric State,” the Russo brothers’ sci-fi film starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt, which led the Netflix Top 10 with 25.2 million views.
Back on the TV chart, “Running Point” came in second place with 6 million views in its third week of streaming. It was followed by “Zero Day” with 4.4 million views in its fourth week. “Beauty in Black” was fourth with 3.9 million views in the first full week of availability for the second part of Season 1 and its sixth week on the chart overall. “Adolescence” debuted as Netflix’s most-watched TV show of the week with an impressive audience for its opening weekend.
After debuting its four hour-long episodes on Thursday, March 13, “Adolescence” scored 24.3 million views through Sunday, March 16, making the limited series the most-watched TV show on Netflix during the week of March 10.
The opening weekend viewership for “Adolescence” outpaced that of other recent Netflix original series, including “The Night Agent” Season 2, which debuted to 13.9 million views, and “Zero Day,” which debuted to 19.1 million views during the week of Feb. 17. Likewise, “Running Point” scored 9.3 million views in its first week on the streamer.
Still, viewership for “Adolescence” was not enough to beat Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt-led “The Electric State,” which debuted to 25.2 million views, ranking as the most-watched movie of the week on Netflix.
“Adolescence” was by far the most-watched English TV show on Netflix this week, with “Running Point” coming in as the No.

Netflix has already started the year off strong with the premieres of shows like Xo, Kitty season 2, The Night Agent season 2, Zero Day, and more. And while these series' are dramas and brought it in their own individual ways, I think the most dramatic Netflix show you may have missed this year was Beauty in Black season 1 Part 2.
The first eight episodes of the Tyler Perry series debuted in October 2024. But viewers had to wait a few months more to watch the next set of eight to find out what happens after the lead character, Kimmie's, sister is kidnapped. The second half of the season picks up with Kimmie doing whatever it takes to find her. Whether you watched the first part and know what I'm talking about or not, this show is definitely on the much more dramatic side. Like, soap opera dramatic.

It's been an up-and-down couple of weeks for Netflix shows. We've seen some big renewals, including The Perfect Couple, Beauty in Black, Xo, Kitty, and Running Point. But, the biggest news was the shocking cancellation of The Recruit starring Noah Centineo.
We knew The Recruit might be in trouble way back at the end of 2024 when Netflix confirmed the show's second season would premiere one week after The Night Agent season 2. Things looked good for The Recruit out of the gate, but Netflix made the disappointing decision to cancel the show after two seasons. The series only lasted two weeks on the Netflix Top 10 shows list in the United States.
After Netflix canceled The Recruit, we started looking at some of the other Netflix shows that could be in trouble after The Recruit was canceled. Overall, the list of Netflix shows still waiting for renewal isn't that long, but the...

Tyler Perry's Beauty in Black has been renewed for a second season. Netflix picked up the series for a new batch of episodes just a few days after Season 1 Part 2 hit the platform on March 6.
"We left fans on the edge of their seats at the end of Season 1, and we're thrilled to continue Kimmie's journey as she steps into her power as the newest member of the Bellaire family," Perry said in a statement to Deadline. "Kimmie exemplifies the spirit of never underestimating the underdog, and I can't wait for fans to continue to see her story unfold. If you thought Season 1 was a wild ride, you're not ready for Season 2."
Written and directed by Tyler Perry, Beauty in Black debuted on Netflix in October 2024. The story focuses on Kimmie (Taylor Polidore Williams), a young exotic dancer trying to earn a living after a falling out with her mother.

Tyler Perry is a massive media mogul, with many movies and television shows spread across multiple streaming services. The actor, writer, director, and producer is perhaps best known for playing Madea, a tough elderly woman who has appeared in several stage plays, a dozen movies, and numerous television series. This includes Tyler Perry's House of Payne, which aired for eight seasons on TBS from 2006 to 2012. Shortly after, Perry formed a partnership to produce series for the Oprah Winfrey Network.
In recent years, however, Perry's projects have been confined to streaming, most notably Netflix. From 2020 to 2024, he wrote and directed A Fall from Grace, A Madea Homecoming, A Jazzman's Blues, Mea Culpa, and The Six Triple Eight – all for Netflix. Many of these movies were panned by critics, but were somewhat popular on the streaming service. In 2025, Perry has Madea's Destination Wedding and several new shows premiering. The Tyler Perry-created drama Beauty in Black is getting a second season.

Netflix has renewed Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black for a second season following the release of Season 1 Part 2 last week. Season 2 will also be released in two parts.

Following a mid-season hiatus in October 2024, Tyler Perry'sBeauty in Black concluded on Netflix on March 6, 2025. The juicy melodrama concerns enterprising dancer Kimmie (Taylor Palidore Williams) and the whirlwind of change she experiences after being accepted into a fancy haircare school owned by a reputable family and run by Mallory Bellaire (Crystle Stewart).
What begins as a hopeful fresh start for Kimmie turns dark and devious with kidnap, blackmail, and ultimately murder within her new community, which turns out to be just as criminal as her old one. Although the show has been ripped apart for its unsubtle stereotypes and crass misogyny, the final six episodes have enough twists and turns to sort out the confusion and give audiences clear-cut answers about the conclusion.

With Love, Meghan has had a lot of press coverage. But the lifestyle series fronted by Meghan Markle struggled in the ratings, only just sneaking into Netflix’s top ten weekly ratings chart.
The eight-part series reached 12.6M hours viewed in its first week on the streamer. This was number ten behind ratings leader Kate Hudson-led comedy Running Point, which had 61.8M hours viewed across the week.
This was significantly down on the ratings for Harry & Meghan, which premiered in December 2022 and became Netflix’s biggest documentary debut ever. That series, which was directed by Liz Garbus, debuted with 81.6M hours viewed in its first three days and adding another 97.7M in its first full week on the service as well as 39.7M in its second full week on Netflix.

Yeah, you heard Horace (Ricco Ross) right in the finale of Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black: there’s a new Bellarie family matriarch in town. Part 2 of the sizzling drama ended with the mother of all cliff-hangers — literally — as Chicago club dancer Kimmie (Taylor Polidore Williams) was announced as his new wife, a.k.a. the new woman leading the Beauty in Black empire. And now you’ll be able to follow her journey in Season 2.
“By the end of the season, Kimmie is on the verge of discovering a whole new level of power,” Williams previously told Tudum. But Kimmie’s ascension is only just beginning, because Beauty in Black will officially return for a second season, released in two parts just like the first.

Part 1 of Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black squeezed a lot of strip club scandal, murder, blackmail, and kidnapping into its ten riveting episodes. But, if you can believe it, Part 2 of the Chicago–set series — now streaming — has even more juicy drama and salacious twists, especially when it comes to Kimmie.
Taylor Polidore Williams, who plays the down-on-her-luck dancer, explains her character’s arc over the first season. “She’s desperate for a way out,” the actor tells Tudum. “She has dreams, she’s inspired to be more, but she’s both physically and mentally trapped. We watch her get pushed to her absolute breaking point through all of Part 1. By the end of the season, Kimmie is on the verge of discovering a whole new level of power.”

Tyler Perry is known for his plot twists in the various projects he's done over the years, and he certainly delivered when it comes to Beauty in Black season 1 Part 2. Right off the bat when the show returned with episode 9, "Blind Rage," on Netflix, we saw just how determined Kimmie was to get her sister, Sylvie, back. But that certainly wasn't the only surprise in store. Based on how the first season ended, can we expect to see more?
Beauty in Black season 2 is probably happening
Let's answer this question first and then we'll dive into the season 1/Part 2 finale. At the time of this writing, it seems like Beauty in Black season 2 (or Part 3?) is happening according to Tyler Perry himself. The creator and filmmaker took to social media to share his gratitude for the fans' support of the current season, and then teased "Yall Aint Ready For Season 2 of #BeautyInBlack!

Tyler Perry's association with Netflix continues to bear fruit as his recently introduced series hits with viewers. The 16-episode drama series, Beauty in Black, finds streaming success as the second half of its slate premieres.
Via Flix Patrol, Beauty in Black ranks second on Netflix's Top 10 chart in the U.S., only trailing Mindy Kaling's new sports comedy series, Running Point. This news comes as Beauty in Black released its latest eight episodes on Mar. 6, continuing the show which began airing on Netflix last October.

The series chronicles Polidore's character, Kimmie, a young stripper whose life takes an unexpected turn when she interacts with a powerful and wealthy yet dysfunctional family who run a cosmetic empire but also lead a devious trafficking scheme. The famous American actor, filmmaker, and playwright, Tyler Perry, is well known for having delivered quite a few misses in his large body of work, but perhaps nothing comes close to his new drama series on Netflix, titled Beauty in Black. Set in Atlanta, the series follows a young woman named Kimmie’s struggles to escape the exploitative world of adult entertainment and her eventual run-ins with the Bellarie family, which owns and runs almost every business in the community. To say that Beauty in Black is one of the worst things I have ever watched on Netflix would not be any exaggeration, and to sit through its 16 episodes in total requires some genuine patience or extreme love for bad TV soaps.

Within a few days of the release of Beauty in Black season 1 part 1, back in October of 2024, the series became the most streamed show on Netflix, bearing clear indication of the immense popularity of the show’s producer, writer, and director Tyler Perry. As part 2 of the season now releases, the story of Kimmie continues as she prepares to go against all odds to protect her younger sister, Sylvie, from the terrible people running the strip club and prostitution ring. Beauty in Black season 1 ends with this release, and it remains a highly unentertaining and campy show, recommended only to those who don’t mind such productions.

What is Part 2 about?

Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black ends with a number of intense twists, leaving viewers and fans intrigued enough for a 2nd season if Netflix approves of the project. Season 1, which released in two separate parts of 8 episodes each, mostly follows the life of the protagonist, Kimmie, as she struggles to leave behind the world of stripping and sex work to establish a better life for herself. The newly released part 2 deals solely with her determined effort at rescuing her younger sister, Sylvie, from her employers after they kidnap the young girl to seek revenge. In this article, we take a look at Beauty in Black’s explosive ending and briefly discuss the possible events in the next season, if the show is continued.

Tyler Perry's hit Netflix original drama series Beauty in Black returned with the second half of its 16-episode first season on Netflix on Thursday, March 6. Titled The Forgotten Realms, the live-action project — which is still in early stages of development — is being executive-produced by Shawn Levy (Stranger Things), Dan Levine (Shadow and Bone), Drew Crevello (WeCrashed) and Hasbro Entertainment. Crevello will also write and serve as showrunner.

If you’re still looking for more Yellowstone despite the show’s future remaining in doubt amid revival rumors, Netflix may be ready to scoop up the hit Western’s audience with Ransom Canyon.
Ransom Canyon has been in the works for a while, but I wasn’t sold on it until I watched the trailer.
But first, let’s dive into the specifics.

All Ransom Canyon Season 1 episodes will premiere on the streaming platform on April 17.
The official logline begins: “Welcome to Ransom Canyon, where love, loss, and loyalty collide beneath the crimson mesas of Texas Hill Country.

The series charts “three ranching family dynasties locked in a contest for control of the land,” which puts “their lives and legacies” on the line from “outside forces intent on destroying their way of life.”

Netflix is the streamer that never stops giving. Sure, the price keeps going up, but at least we get some fantastic original content for our money. We will not love everything, but even if we like half, that's a win for us and the streaming service.
Plus, at least our money is going partly toward the making of original series. Where would we be without Virgin River, for instance? Or The Night Agent? Our lives would be a lot less full of entertainment.
On Thursday, Netflix tweeted several trailers of series that are coming soon. All of them look like must-watch shows. You can judge that for yourself below.

Ransom Canyon is a modern Western saga that is going to try to build off the love of Yellowstone and bring that joy to Netflix. There is nothing wrong with that.
