    Omaha Indie

Flyover Country has its moments of clarity and insight. It seems to know what it wants to say, but somewhere along the way, at intervals, it looses grasp on its own voice. This is not necessarily a bad thing, depending on how you view the film, since the film is precisely about that: Finding a voice (or being at conflict with one).

Ideas, trends and snobbisms seem to define Flyover's characters more than their own thoughts. At least that's the impression I got at times. Perhaps this was done -once again- on purpose, as a way to outline the metaphor that is the title of the film. Or maybe this is just how the universe these characters inhabit really is. I don't know. At any rate, the situation the main character finds himself in during the film could be described as a modern Mid-Western abstract and subjective dichotomy of self.

For the ultra-low budget film that Flyover Country is, it comes across as very well crafted. It could have used some less stage-styled performances from some of the cast members, but overall, it is a pleasant movie to look at. However, as a whole, the story misses more marks than it should, both dramatic and comedic-wise.

Should you watch Flyover Country? Sure thing. The director has an interesting voice that, not unlike the characters in this movie, seems to be finding its way back to his own self.

    A pass-over movie

Flyover Country is a pass-over movie You could live your entire life and never bother with seeing this film, and you're not missing a thing. The story isn't terrible, but the film fails to pull it off with any sort of worth. The dialogue is clunky, misplaced, at times forced and almost always poorly delivered. The acting left much to be desired, from the overly wide-eyed expressions of the one to the repetitive bored and apathetic expression of the other. If you watch it, all the way through, you can see what they wanted to do, the film they wanted to make; the story where a homophobic asshat gets a life lesson and the pov of being treating like a gay while not being one... that is interesting, but everything else brings it down.

    Loved It!

Loved this movie and its soundtrack! The storyline caught me and pulled me in! Great movie. The beauty of Omaha was definitely captured in this movie :). The only part I didn't understand was how the title connected to the movie (however this is more explained if you watch the extra features.) I am proud to say I am originally from the area. I am also proud to say that I have never seen so much hate toward homosexuals (that does not mean that it does not exist--it exists everywhere sadly. I'm just blessed I haven't seen it.) I also really enjoyed watching one of the last lines in the credits (this is not word for word), "No homosexual or heterosexual people were harmed in the making of this film."

Flyover is a spectacular depiction of the human condition!

Yes it is a micro-budget film however you soon forget that, because you will feel for the characters in this film. The story never stops moving forward with its great scenes, funny moments, unique characters, awesome music, and beautiful Midwest locations. Hence Field's has a seductive way in pulling us into this interesting story woven between realistic drama and entertaining comedy. Some of the acting could have been better and the story line out shined the dialogue, but all in all there is something fresh, raw and really good here! With some phenomenal scenes between actors that had chemistry and it's underlying consciousness this film is sure not to let you down. Whether you can relate to this story from a social issue aspect or the many cast of characters in the film it is sure to create dialogue. Alexander Payne watch out there is more Omaha talent creating noise from the Midwest!
