During 2016's "killer clown" craze, Dr. Marks and journalist Parker trace the source to jailed serial killer Cane recruiting followers for an anarchist movement. When Cane escapes, they race to stop his murderous Halloween scheme.
Written and Directed by Phil Claydon. Starring Michael Pare, Ronan Summers and Jeanine Nerissa Sothcott.
I've been looking forward to this one for a little bit now and let me say, it almost delivered up to expectations. It borrows heavily from other horror films and weaves it along with actual events in a way that flows pretty seamlessly. Just within the first half-hour I could see influence of Halloween, It, Trick R' Treat, Silence of The Lambs, The Purge and even Mr. Bean (I'll get back to that one).
Let me say, Lashes and Slashes, is a term that will get stuck in your head and it is a perfect turn of phrase to help establish an new horror entity. Cane's make design is flawless.
Speaking of Cane, Ronan Summers played him so well. Between his British accent, his Heath Ledger-esque movements, the whistle (oh Lord that whistle) and his exaggerated facial expressions (a la Mr. Bean). Adding so many elements to one character really sets him apart.
There are some choices made here that deviate from standard horror troupe and I appreciate that. The thing I would have liked to see more was gore. Just wasn't enough for what kind of thing Cane is. Also, we lost track of anything else happening in the country. Hopefully we can see that explored later on.
