House of David is Prime Video's new take on a biblical epic, focusing on the rise of David and set in Israel during 1000 BC. The series has not necessarily been met with widespread acclaim, as critics have been mixed on it. However, audiences have latched onto the new Amazon series, garnering it 22 million viewers in its first 17 days. It's been a hit for the streamer, but a startling revelation made by fans during the latest episode may put some people off from the hit series.

The newly released episode 6 of Amazon’s “House of David” opens with a mythical origin sequence for the character Goliath, created in an inventive way by incorporating generative AI tools in the production workflow.
“The entire scene is driven with generative AI tools as the horsepower to the scene. What we found is that these tools work when combined with traditional tools,” Jon Erwin, series creator and co-showrunner, tells Variety. He relates that, originally, this roughly 90-second sequence as scripted was much smaller in scope, but then the filmmakers began to envision more ambitious visuals and incorporate AI applications. “We had gotten permission to use the technology, we had formed a team around it, and [thought] let’s really go for it.”
In all, season one incorporates 72 shots that involved use of AI, and it was a learning process for the filmmakers. “People can make cool images, certainly, and use these tools sort of as consumers,...

House of David will make audiences believe they live in a world of gods and monsters, that angels and abominations walk among us, and that our ancestors fell to Earth from a heavenly plain, creating giants in the heat of unholy union. As a way into Season 1, Episode 6, “Giants Awakened,” there is a certain majesty to it. Flashbacks are rarely that ornate, but this biblical epic is cut from a different cloth. It comes with authority from on high, sanctioned by scripture, and wielding the word of God like a weapon against anyone who wishes to argue.
House of David has been building up to this reveal for several episodes, teasing only the briefest battle scenes before focusing elsewhere. There has been quite a resurgence in the genre of biblical stories in film and television. With streaming and the movie industry adapting to an evolving taste in storytelling, many studios are looking to particular genres that have been consistent hits with audiences. One area that has been pretty consistent has been biblical stories, whether it be Noah's Ark or the origins of Jesus Christ. Some favorite biblical adaptations in film and television include Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, 1956's The Ten Commandments, The Prince of Egypt, The Nativity Story, VeggieTales, and Darren Aronofsky's Noah.

Amazon has announced that Reacher Season 3 has accrued 54.6 million views in its first 19 days, more than any returning series ever. House of David has been climbing the Prime Video charts with the strength of a slingshot, proving that biblical adaptations are a viable force in streaming—something Amazon are gambling on. The historical drama, which has largely flown under the radar on social media, is making a significant impact where it matters most, and that's Amazon’s Top 10. The series recently overtook Invincible, pushing the animated superhero show down to #3 despite its critically acclaimed third season and a highly intense penultimate episode.

Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Episodes 1-3 of House of David. For many, Prime Video's House of David has ushered them into a realm of biblical adventure they didn't know existed. Covering the story of the young David (Michael Iskander) before he takes the throne as King of Israel, House of David also highlights the downfall of the House of Saul. At the end of the first episode, "A Shepherd and a King," King Saul (Ali Suliman) is rejected by the prophet Samuel (Stephen Lang) as king. While this alone may be a shocking development for those unfamiliar with the Old Testament tragedy, House of David gets even more fantastical as Saul is plummeted into an ethereal haze — and he soon grows into a far more wrathful man than before. So, what is happening to King Saul? We're glad you asked.

The following contains spoilers for House of David, Season 1, Episode 4, "The Song of Moses," which debuts Thursday, Mar. 6, on Amazon Prime.
House of David is clearly in no hurry to tell a story. In Season 1, Episode 4, “The Song of Moses,” this Amazon Prime original is trading on ambiance. Atmospherics, rather than action, does most of the heavy lifting, allowing audiences to settle in and get comfortable. Biblical epics are a rare breed that feel immune to conventional criticism, since their subject matter is thousands of years old. Audiences might have an appetite for underdog stories, but when they take place before the birth of Christ, that changes things.
This means that creator David Urwin moves away from plots and makes parables instead, conveying life lessons through each episode. That shift means he can apply his own pacing rather than relying on traditional storytelling techniques. Simply moving characters from place to...

If you have been paying attention to the streaming world, you know that Prime Video is going all-in on a Biblical series and giving it the Game of Thrones treatment. House of David debuted in late February and it tells the age-old story of the simple man who was able to take down the giant Goliath with a slingshot and would then become the king of Israel. Despite the source material, though, the series' producer and writer Jon Gunn stated that the show is "a war of houses" rather than a religious story.

When it comes to dramas of Biblical proportions, you can't beat The Chosen. And that appears to literally be the case when it comes to Rotten Tomatoes ratings as well. In the realm of biblical television dramas, two series have recently captured audience attention: Amazon Prime Video's House of David and the independently produced The Chosen, but when it comes to bringing the Bible to life, in the eyes of the critics, there's only one winner.

Martyn Ford has broken into the mainstream like the Kool-Aid Man bursting through a wall. The actor, with the musculature of a bodybuilder and the cadence of a confident Englishman, has gone from social media workouts to starring in blockbusters and streaming series (The Sandman and Those About to Die). He's now playing the legendary giant Goliath in Prime Video's new series, House of David, and will be playing an equally formidable villain in the upcoming remake of Red Sonja. In an interview with MovieWeb, Ford told us that his mysterious character in that movie, General Karlak, is set to be visually "phenomenal," so once can imagine Ford's already intimidating physique combined with wild CGI.
Ford has been great at multifaceted but terrifying villains, and compared Red Sonja's Karlak (a villain of the future) to Goliath. "I think there's always similarities between the ultimate bad guys and their mannerisms and their energies.

Stephen Lang stars as the prophet Samuel in the new Prime Video series, House of David. It's a divine role based on a major figure in Abrahamic religion, who is said to have existed 3,000 years ago and was a messenger of God, anointing the first kings of unified Israel. The withered old prophet with long gray hair is a far cry from his buff bravado in the Avatar movies, where he plays the hardcore Colonel Miles Quaritch. During Stephen Lang's interview with MovieWeb for House of David, we were curious about where this very different character may be headed in the third film, Avatar: Fire and Ash, and beyond.
"You want me to talk about Avatar?" asked Lang incredulously. "What, are you trying to sandbag me? You know I can't say much about that. I mean, Cameron has already been out there. He's been spouting off about it a little bit.

House of David Season 1 presents an expansive reimagining of a well-known biblical account. The narrative follows the early life of David within the ancient Kingdom of Israel, set against the backdrop of 1000 BC.
The series charts his formative years as a shepherd and builds toward the famed encounter with Goliath, providing a rich portrayal of an era marked by deep-rooted traditions and shifting power dynamics.
The story raises questions about societal roles and the nature of leadership in a time when established norms were often challenged by emerging forces. Its depiction of familiar figures is handled with an attention to detail that opens a window into the cultural conversations of today.
Directed by Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn, the production carries forward a history of faith-based storytelling while adopting modern visual techniques that honor historical accuracy.

Perhaps one of the most unexpectedly complex characters in James Cameron's Avatar franchise is Stephen Lang's Colonel Miles Quaritch. The first film had him as stereotypical of a villain as they come, before he eventually met a grisly fate by the movie's end. While it took a little over a decade for the sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, to be released, it still managed to defy expectations and be an enthralling blockbuster, in no small part thanks to Lang's performance as the newly resurrected Quaritch. This time, the character would be put into the body of an Avatar, making him the very thing he wanted to destroy. Lang survived the events in the second film, and now, the actor briefly discusses the character's future in a new interview.

The following contains spoilers for House of David, which debuts Thursday, Feb.27, on Amazon Prime.
House of David is a sweeping biblical epic that embraces a more majestic style of storytelling. Lifted straight from the Old Testament, creator Jon Erwin has crafted something bewitching from this rags-to-riches tale. Looking to replicate the historical epics of Cecille B Demille with mythical undertones, House of David is an awe-inspiring social commentary piece. One filled with larger-than-life characters resurrected from religious writings, headlined by unknown actor Michael Iskander in the title role. A fresh-faced farm boy elevated to the rank of King, anointed by God’s will to rule over Israel.
These opening episodes make it clear how much Amazon Prime has invested. This Middle Eastern epic feels lavish, with billowing Bedouin tents and battlefields packed with armies. Authenticity feels paramount from the outset, inviting audiences to experience David’s rags-to-riches story. With...

The world of entertainment has long caught on to the fact that biblical stories are epic in nature and, therefore, make for compelling productions. Cinema brought viewers ambitious undertakings like Charlton Heston's The Ten Commandments and Darren Aronofsky's Noah, both of which proved that you don't even have to be a Christian to enjoy stories adapted from the Bible. Now, the new Prime Video series House of David brings the epic scale of the silver screen into a series format – and proves once again that there are still a lot of biblical stories that can be retold in compelling ways.

When one thinks of the most notable historical dramas recounting books of the Bible, one of the first likely to come to mind is The Chosen. The immensely popular CW series covers the life and times of Jesus Christ, and the series has become known as the pinnacle of faith-based television in recent years, being praised for its painstaking biblical accuracy and authentic recreation of first-century Israel. In the wake of The Chosen's popularity, the production company behind the series, The Wonder Project, has yet another epic biblical series in the pipeline, the highly anticipated House of David, a dramatization of the timeless story of David and Goliath.

It’s been well over a decade since Avatar first took audiences to Pandora, and with The Way of Water triumphantly justifying James Cameron’s ambitious plans for the franchise, fans have been eagerly awaiting updates on the next installment, Avatar: Fire & Ash. Stephen Lang has played his fair share of commanding figures, from ruthless military leaders to hardened warriors, but in House of David, the Avatar star takes on a different kind of authority, one whose power comes from on high. Way on high. Lang plays Samuel, the last judge of Israel, in the upcoming biblical epic, a role that he describes as both pivotal to the story and deeply complex. Speaking with Collider, Lang revealed what drew him to the role and how he worked with creators Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn (Ordinary Angels), to figure out Samuel’s place in the series.

Everyone, religious or otherwise, knows the story of David and Goliath. The hulking brute taken down by an armorless boy with a rock has been a story used for inspiration for Millenia.
