A compact, but detailed account of the rise of the Swedish rock group ABBA, who took the world by storm winning the 1974 Eurovision music contest. The film celebrates the group's Golden anniversary of that event along with the Silver anniversary of the London debut of the mega smash hit musical Mamma Mia!
Plenty of interesting and insightful interviews with all four members of the band (Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad), plus scores of other individuals associated with the band's meteoric rise to stardom. Reminisce as the film takes us through the crazy, outlandish costumes that was one of the signature looks of the band throughout the 70s.
Travel to the small remote, Swedish archipelago where Benny and Björn honed their craft and wrote the vast majority of their hit singles. Go into the studio with the group to see how the songs were recorded and the intimate details that went into making the ABBA sound.
As an interesting sidenote, ABBA was one of the very first rock bands to film a "music video" for each of their hit songs long before MTV came along. As explained in the documentary, this was done so that the band members could avoid having to tour on a grueling schedule.
