To preface, I did binge the whole show in a few days so some of the meandering episodes didn't bother me and I probably enjoyed it more because of that.
The actors did a great job, everyone is believable and the main couple have fantastic chemistry together.
I feel like it is fairly obvious from the first few minutes that the original book was flawed with flat characters and plot (that's what the FL tells us) therefore anything where she keeps to the original plot seems much weaker then when she goes off script and we get to explore the characters and world more, that's the whole point. So to anyone who complains that the supporting cast are boring that is the point until you learn about them more later in the show.
Speaking of later, the end of the show for me actually changes my perspective of how the show is supposed to be understood which is fantastic because it adds depth and the small clues were there from the very beginning. Hard to explain without spoilers but safe to say it's not a simple fantasy romance, the romance aspect is just one part of the deeper message.
Not sure if this is a spoiler (so stop reading if you want absolutely no spoilers) the main couple never kiss during the whole show which I was disappointed in because they have great romantic chemistry but for me the end actually kind of explains why.

I'm not a fan of Esther Yu, I find her acting cringy but I decided to give this show a try. I was hoping for some versatility and I was disappointed, all she gave was silly, dumb and cringy. Admittedly she can be a little funny but that's like 10% of the time and not worth all the cringe.
The supporting couple is just bland. Thats it.
The only character worth watching was probably, Mu Sheng, the male lead, and thats not a good thing because he was pretty violent and had a weird obsession with his sister for half of the show. But still the romance btw him and the FL gave me a little hope which was dashed when they actually got together. For such a long build up, they gave us nothing.
This whole ensemble was so bad that towards the end of the show I didn't even care what happens to the characters.
In the end I truly believe the show would have been much better with a different female lead.

The people down complaining about Esther yu sounds like a hater don't come to me but not a fan of anyone but for me she carried the show and I couldn't imagine any other actress playing miaomiao, she's perfect. She made the show engaging the first few eps and the plot went a little downhill after ep 6 but the show was still good and loved the chemistry sm. I will definitely rewatch this again when I'm sad I couldn't stop laughing at how many times the female mc was killed and Esther portrayed it so well with her little expressions!! Charmed to death and the mirror demon is so pretty too. I loved every character in this show.
Highly entertaining and super addictive eastern fantasy drama with an engaging cast of characters, immersive story telling from female lead's POV. Set design, costume and animation effects greatly enhanced the audience's viewing pleasure.
The palpable chemistry between the leads Esther Yu and Ryan Ding is one of the key reasons why this drama attracted me.
The superlative acting, humorous moments and underpinning themes of kinship, family, friendship and budding romance woven into this adventure drama are other compelling reasons that kept me glued to the screen.
Each supporting character has its own storyline and the different types of demon each has distinctive costume designs that add to the appeal of this drama.
