Of all the films with prosthetic genitals in them, this would be the first.
It took me about an hour before I could say for sure they were having fun with the film and weren't just incompetent.
The acting is cheesy during the silly action, but bad when it's trying to be serious.
The horror is visceral and effective but also silly, which is probably the right line to be riding given the film it is contained within.
The film utterly fails when it is trying to be clever. Have an evil showdown in a church, never saw that before.
Quote Shakespeare? Not adding anywhere near enough to make it worth the inclusion.
Using pseudo science to detail a dream sharing experience?
Could have completely omitted that concept without any I'll effect.
Swing and a miss.

I have to admit when I saw Edward Furlong was starring in a movie I was perplexed because I thought he was one of those child actors who had passed. After watching this I'm still not sure. This movie with a very long title should just be called Unwatchable because it stinks. I think the people behind this thought if they tried to make an awful film it would automatically become a "so bad it's good film" and that is not the way a movie becomes a cult hit. You have to start by taking your material seriously and it's obvious these people did not. Throughout most of the film I could not understand half the dialogue because it was mumbled. Bai Ling in a plastic looking wig, in her one short scene, didn't even seem to be speaking English. Not that it matters. The movie had no plot to speak of, something about aliens I think so I have no idea how or why sleep is even a part of this. Furlong is suppose to be some kind of doctor or more likely a quack. Ginger Lynn an adult film actress from way , way back and now in her 60s has a small role but most of the actors , if they aren't former adult actors, come across as anything but professional. There is some nudity and sleaze but it adds nothing and keep in mind the main cast here is old. If you want to see old men naked this is your film. I do give this 2 stars for some interesting horror prosthetics but this is not worth watching. It is never funny, it drags on, characters give long rambling, mumbling speeches that I not only couldn't understand but were putting me to sleep. Even when I was sure it was over, it just went on. The trailer is definitely misleading, this is a poorly done, unprofessional production. Time has not be kind to Edward.
If you don't like low budget horror, and H. P. Lovecraft tales ( no matter how bastardized) then go watch "Super 8" so you can s**k that d**k on your reviewing...I mean come on...Jezze. This director Chad delivered to us just we love as independent horror fans, in fact he NAILED it. This isn't an actors studio rant into an academy performance by the actors ,but more of an insane trip making you shake your head saying "Wow, this is EFFED.... I like it"..lol . It is put together very well, the pace is great, editing works...this is a FUN FILM and not to judged any other way. If you are a fan of Indy/low-budget/crazy as shiz/horror you will totally not be disappointed. Loved it for its envelope pushing of taboo sequences that were delivered better than some other films. This is total fun for the low-budget horror fan that is sick and tired of the garbage Indy films that have been streaming lately. Definitely check it out...total crazy fun 👍
What would happen if you crossed David Cronenberg with the paranoid drug world of William Burroughs? Oh wait, that's already been done-it's called Naked Lunch. As far as I remember, apart from a few original scenes, that film was mostly arty-farty and way too slow. This movie, though, is much crazier and makes the most of its small budget. According to the credits, the story is based loosely on H. P. Lovecraft, but with a very free hand, to say the least! Dream specialist Ambrose London is invited by the neurotic Dr. Barnard to Arkham Asylum to investigate an imprisoned murderer with a split personality. This detainee has it pretty bad; whenever his alter ego takes over, his eye color changes, and blue light streams out of his mouth. Ambrose concocts a cocktail of peyote and amphetamines, which he administers to himself and the patient. Unsurprisingly, things go horribly wrong, and the psychopath quickly takes control of the entire facility, leading to a frenzy where nurses and inmates attack each other like zombies. The plot gets thickened by aliens with huge penises (complete with little faces on the tips) and a cast that seems almost entirely made up of past-their-prime porn actresses. It's the kind of movie where, after every absurd moment, you know an even crazier twist is around the corner-and it does not disappoint. It's a bit unfortunate that, amid all the low-budget chaos, the script does not take the time to explain who the characters are and what drives them, but otherwise, this is a pornographic splatterfest that more than delivers on its promises.
I had not heard about this 2024 movie titled "Unspeakable: Beyond the Wall of Sleep" prior to stumbling upon it by random chance here in 2025. Given the fact that this was a horror movie that I hadn't already seen, and it being based on a H. P. Lovecraft story, of course I had to check out what writer and director Chad Ferrin had to offer. But with the likes of Edward Furlong and Bai Ling listed on the cover, I wasn't exactly harboring the biggest of expectations to the movie.
Writer Chad Ferrin put together a fair enough script and storyline, loosely based on the works of H. P. Lovecraft. It was a weird narrative, so very, very weird, should you opt to sit down and watch the movie.
I was ready to call it quits on the movie when I witnessed the scene with the trouser snakes. Yup, virtual trouser snakes. I kid you not. It was beyond ridiculous. But I endured, as the movie was loosely based on a H. P. Lovecraft movie after all.
There were some familiar faces on the cast list, such as Edward Furlong, Bai Ling, Steve Railsback, Lew Temple, Robert Miano, Elina Madison and Ginger Lynn. The acting performances in the movie were fair.
The effects in the movie were fair. It wasn't exactly over-the-top multi-million dollar effects, of course, but they were fair enough.
My rating of writer and director Chad Ferrin's 2024 movie "Unspeakable: Beyond the Wall of Sleep" lands on a four out of ten stars.
