The 2024 CMA Awards telecast will be filled with performers who’ve had crossover success on different charts this year, including Post Malone, Shaboozey and Teddy Swims, as well as stalwarts of the genre like Lainey Wilson, Chris Stapleton and Luke Bryan, all announced Thursday as part of the first round of talent revealed for the Nov. 20 show.

Wilson and Bryan were shoo-ins to perform on this year’s CMAs, as they were already announced as co-hosts, along with Peyton Manning. Other big country names to come up in the first round of performers included Dierks Bentley, Thomas Rhett and Ashley McBryde.

Deepak Rauniyar’s “Pooja, Sir,” which is in the Venice Film Festival’s Horizons strand competition this year, has revealed several territory sales and a first teaser.

The film is inspired by real events which took place in Southern Nepal during the 2015 race protests, involving the Madhesi community. In the film, when two boys are kidnapped in a border town in Nepal, Detective Inspector Pooja is sent from Kathmandu to solve the case. However, upon her arrival, the brewing political unrest and violent protests throw her off course, compelling her to seek help from Mamata, a local Madhesi policewoman. By putting aside systemic discrimination and pushing through everyday misogyny, the women attempt to solve the case.

India’s Yash Raj Films (Yrf) has unveiled the title for its first female-fronted instalment in the studio’s successful spy universe franchise.

Titled “Alpha,” the film stars Alia Bhatt and Sharvari as super agents. “This is a clear take by Yrf to highlight a societal misinterpretation that only men can be Alphas,” said a source close to Yrf.

“After an initial recce by the team, I always personally do a location recce. Many a time, even during the recce we miss out on some parts of the location, which get covered when we eventually go to shoot,” he commented.

The directorrevealed how during the shoot of ‘Highway’, he did not do any recce, and whenever they found good locations, the team stopped and shot the scenes.

Acclaimed Nepalese filmmaker Deepak Rauniyar has wrapped principal photography on his next feature “Rajagunj” (“The Sky is Mine”).

The film is also one of nine projects to receive funding from the Norwegian Film Institute’s Sorfond. It received NOK625,000.

Rising Indian musician and film star Diljit Dosanjh will play legendary Punjab singer Amar Singh Chamkila in a new biopic backed by Netflix. The streamer revealed the project Tuesday, along with a first teaser trailer (see it below), describing the film as film presenting “the untold true story of Punjab’s original rockstar of the masses.”

Amar Singh Chamkila, as the film is titled, is directed by Hindi hitmaker Imtiaz Ali, who reunites on the project with acclaimed musician and composer Ar Rahman, who will handle the film’s score and soundtrack. The duo previously worked together to great success, as director and composer, on Bollywood hits like Rockstar (2011) and Highway (2014).

An updated version of the very popular Indian song “Patakha Guddi” will soon be available thanks to Drake. The Grammy Award-winning Ar Rahman composed the song “Patakha Guddi,” which was originally performed by The Nooran Sisters for the Bollywood film “Highway” in 2014.

One of the Nooran Sisters revealed that Drake is working on a new version of the song and that it was just re-dubbed in India in an interview with BBC Asian. She continued by saying that the song is being mixed right now and would be released soon. She added that it doesn’t really matter to her when asked if she is pleased about working with Drake, a global sensation.

Popular Bollywood actor Parineeti Chopra has two projects based on real-life stories in the works.

“Chamkila” is a biopic on Punjabi singer-songwriter pop star duo Amar Singh Chamkila and Amarjot Kaur, who shot to fame in the 1980s recording and performing songs that were social commentaries or devotionals, and which became massive hits. The duo was gunned down in Mehsampur village, Punjab, in 1988. Their assassination remains an unsolved mystery and was the subject of Kabir Singh Chowdhry’s 2018 mockumentary “Mehsampur.”

“Chamkila,” produced by Reliance Entertainment, is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, known for “Jab We Met” (2007), “Love Aaj Kal” (2009), “Rockstar” (2011) and “Highway” (2014). Pop star and actor Diljit Dosjanh (Netflix original film “Jogi”) plays Chamkila while Chopra plays Kaur.

“Diljit and I are going to be singing throughout the film. We’re doing like 12-15 songs because it’s a film on music. We’re doing live recordings on set.

People expect highway rides to be fast, racy, and smooth. But on screen, Telugu movie ‘Highway’, ace cinematographer Kv Guhan’s third directorial venture in Telugu, suffers on all three fronts.
