I had no idea what to expect when I started watching this film...just a vague notion about dolls coming to life and killing people ala Chucky. But right from the beginning, I sensed this was no ordinary slasher flick. There was a strong voice behind the visuals. Not surprised to see the director also shot this film. It's such a singular vision. And an unusual one! The acting is excellent (the boy who plays Dolly is a stand out), the visuals fascinating (the filmmaker is clearly an artist) and the camera work supports the mood and message brilliantly. This film reminds me more of John Waters early works (before he got commercial with Serial Mom and Hairspray). If you're interested in a really different film experience, this may be the movie for you! And please...all the guys looking for the next slasher? be warned, this picture is cutting edge and has a brain :) Loved it!
Within the first 5 seconds of this movie a woman takes off her shirt and then her bra - both breasts are visible.
For a micro-budget indie horror, this one is better than some, but not the best I've seen. I did enjoy the trailer trash vibe and some of the humorous props (whether intentionally humorous or not). It's a little tedious in parts, and it's not as creepy or gritty as it thinks it is. Some missed opportunity to go all out, but some scenes are good. Others are not. I gave it a star for a decent quality filming, a star that I was able to get through the whole thing (including the tedious portions), and a star for some prop humor, including but not limited to, re-jacketed playboy magazines with the Dark Tw@t titles.
A unique and involving re-visitation of the "masked killer origin" story, this movie is a dark trip into an innocent mind gradually twisted and transformed into a remorseless murderer. Basically John Waters meets John Carpenter and Tobe Hooper with some Lynch/Burton-esque visual styling, this movie proves that "indie horror" can, indeed be far more that hand-held camera "found-footage" and haunted house/possession stories! Heidi Moore is a definite talent, and I eagerly await to see more of her work!
Loaded with yummy 1970s-reminiscent B horror camp! I felt like I was 11 years old again in front the TV watching Bob Wilkins's Friday night Creature Features! ♡ Bravo Heidi Moore! I have been a fan of 1970s B horror since I was a kid, "Troll 2" being among my very favorites. This kind of horror is a lost art, in my opinion, but apparently not completely extinct, thanks to Heidi Moore and Wretched Productions. Thanks for the blast from the past, Wretched! And aside from those aspects, I really appreciated the calling out of gender programming and brainwashing of our children when it comes to what toys, etc they can or cannot play with. We are on the horizon of a new kid's culture where delineations between "girls' and boys' toys" — between dolls and dump trucks trucks — will be an archaic notion.
