With Women’s Day just around the corner, I’m not surprised this South African gem’s come to grace our screens today. If you were wondering, Tuiskoms in Afrikaans means “Homecoming.” The show doesn’t necessarily give you this translation, but I suppose if you pay enough attention, you might get it while watching the show. Tuiskoms tells the story of a widow named Fleur, who has taken over her late husband’s restaurant after his passing two years ago. Still grieving, Fleur doesn’t want to give up on the failing restaurant, but things take a drastic turn when a man finds pubic hair on his dessert plate (yikes). Videos are taken of Fleur defending the restaurant and even licking something off the plate, but Fleur thinks she can still pull through. Unfortunately, this is not the case, and she loses everything, leading her to move back to...

Envious Season 2 emerges as an Argentinian Netflix original that portrays Vicky, a woman in her forties burdened by the weight of love, happiness, and self-worth. Set against an urban landscape of muted intensity and hidden reverie, her existence oscillates between two distinct realms: the secure, yet hollow familiarity offered by Dani, and the alluring, capricious charm personified by Matias.
This new chapter unfurls a narrative steeped in introspection and quiet despair, inviting the observer to witness a soul caught amid the clash of stability and the yearning for genuine passion. Echoes of past abandonment haunt Vicky’s every step, painting her journey with strokes of sorrow and fleeting humor.
A perceptive therapist offers a somber anchor to her turbulent emotions, while a small circle of friends, each entwined in their own subdued dramas, contributes subtle hues to this intricate portrayal of modern disquiet. The city, with its maze-like streets and brooding corners,...

They say if you want something too bad, you’ll never get it. Envious is the embodiment of this sentence. The second season of the Netflix show continues Vicky’s story, but this time in a more entertaining way. The series definitely feels more grounded and less exaggerated than the previous season, which is a pleasant surprise. I think season 2 is more aligned with what I expected from the first one. In the first season, Vicky comes across as an insecure woman who keeps digging herself a hole. In season 2, we get to see more vulnerability in Vicky. In the series, Vicky’s set to marry Daniel, her long-time boyfriend, who gave her a last-minute proposal just when she was ready to tell Matias that she likes him. The big question is, will she choose Daniel or Matias? But more importantly, whoever it is, will the choice reflect her feelings?...

Season 2 of Netflix’s Envious has a happy ending, yet it leaves you a little bit nervous. The second season of the Argentinian Netflix original focuses on Vicky growing as a person, or whether this is actually possible or not. The big conflict of season 2 is Vicky and Matias committing to each other. It’s a lot of back and forth, but in between all that, Vicky’s sister Caro is also pregnant, and her friends have their own things going on too. The 11th episode is an amalgamation of a lot of stuff happening in the series. It’s like the angry confluence of a number of streams that come together into a powerful river. Vicky’s growth in season 2 was very slow, and I was worried that, by the end of it, she would not be a different person, but fortunately, I think with Matias’ help, she might...

For your viewing pleasure, Netflix has added 23 new shows and movies to your rotation. Well, not yours personally, as that would be presumptuous and a bit rude. But I'm pretty sure you'll find something to like in this week's offerings.
Your favorite streaming service kicked off February with a pretty busy slate. But that was just a taste of what's coming up. This week brings 22 more great shows and movies to your living room, weekly commute, or that window you've got open during another endless Zoom meeting. You know who you are.
The week begins with an acclaimed biographical drama starring Michael Keaton, and wraps up with an acclaimed biographical drama starring Kristen Stewart. Between those two films, you're invited to have a chat on the big red couch, chase through the jungles of Costa Rica, investigate a murder, jump back into your college days, and so much more. Speaking of jumping,...

Netflix has revealed its lineup for February 2025.
Reality TV enthusiasts are in for a treat. Netflix is putting a strong focus on this genre with the return of Love Is Blind for its eighth season, along with the debut of Celebrity Bear Hunt, a fresh competition-based reality show. For those who prefer a gripping thriller, Netflix will drop Apple Cider Vinegar, a new series premiering on February 6 that’s worth keeping an eye on.
In other big news, the highly popular series Cobra Kai will release its final batch of five episodes this month, marking the end of the TV series. While it’s bittersweet for fans, this isn’t the last we’ll see of Daniel Larusso, as he’s set to appear in an upcoming Karate Kid movie hitting theaters later this year.
Beyond these highlights, Netflix is also adding plenty of films and shows to its catalog.

In Destiny 2, the Dawning is back to spread festive cheer and end 2024, and there are some delicious rewards to be had. Using ingredients gathered from different activities, Guardians can bake cookies in Eva Levante’s special oven and deliver them to their favorite NPCs for loot, which includes a recently created Linear Fusion Rifle.

For one Gift in Return and 25 Dawning Spirit per copy, Eva can be targeted by Mistral Lift and Dawning weapons that were added in prior years. From personal experience, the former is a rare reward for delivering cookies, so that’s a bit of a steep ask. However, it takes a lot when you are talking about the Mistral Lift Lfr.

Netflix’s Envious is a sitcom-soap hybrid that tries too hard and then fails its audience miserably. The show is occasionally fun, but for the most part a dead end for good entertainment. And no, I’m not saying this in a guilty pleasure way, because it’s all guilt, no pleasure. The show tells the story of Vicky, a woman nearing the 40-year mark and still unmarried. When she gives her boyfriend Danny an ultimatum for marriage, he doesn’t propose, and she chooses to leave him. Soon enough, she realizes this wasn’t the greatest decision of her life. She sees a therapist on the daily who listens to her and tries to make her realize how much of the problem lies within herself, but Vicky’s never really willing to listen; she’s too busy trying to compete with anybody who breathes the same air as her.

What I appreciate about Netflix is that it will give us a show with a 40-year-old female protagonist like it’s no big deal, but if that show is unoriginal and practically crap, I don’t know what to do with myself. In all honesty, Envious is almost like Emily in Paris, but it’s Emily in her 40s, and she’s an Argentinian interior designer in Buenos Aires. What I’m trying to say is if I had to rank obnoxious lead female characters, Emily and Vicky might be fighting for that number one spot. I’m not opposed to a dramatic character arc and a character who is sure of herself, because you best believe that’s me, but this show is relentless at showing the lead character as someone who just doesn’t get the hint. Vicky’s covetous behavior only makes us as the viewer more...

The Argentinian Netflix original Envious is a comedy soap about a single woman at 40. The very unoriginal show is run-of-the-mill in that you can predict the Spanish dialogue without even knowing the language. Obviously, this isn’t entirely true, but you can imagine I didn’t have much fun watching this show, which has one purpose: to “represent” women who dream of having a family but never manage to do so, and in the ploy of making a comedy, make a complete joke of the concept. Look, it’s not like this show has a terrible ending; it’s just the way it gets there that really bothers me. Specifically, because it repeats the same thing 100 times. Our leading lady, Vicky, is jealous of anyone who has a family of their own. But the show makes a point to bore us with her obsession with the concept so much so...

September means networks are rolling out the good stuff following the summer blahs, and Netflix’s September offerings are no exception.
In addition to “The Perfect Couple” (see below) the streamer’s September offerings include “Emily in Paris” Season 4 Part 2, starring Lily Collins, as well as the downright charming “Nobody Wants This,” a unique rom-com starring millennial aughts TV gods Adam Brody and Kristen Bell — this one will be all over your social media feed, so make sure to binge it the second it drops.
On the movie front, in addition to a slew of old favorites, film fanatics’ best bet is likely “His Three Daughters,” a festival fave starring Elisabeth Olsen, Carrie Coon, and Natasha Lyonne. The film, about three very different siblings coming together in their father’s dying days, is expected to be a major awards contender after premiering at TIFF last year.
