Netflix brings Kraven the Hunter to your home this Thursday. Allow him to enter at your own risk, as this appears to be the film that killed not only Spider-Man but also the non-Spider-Man Spider-Verse.
Sony's Spider-Man films were, on the whole, a pretty solid group. They got much better once they finally accepted assistance from Marvel Studios, beginning with Spider-Man: Homecoming. But those Spider-verse movies without Spidey? I mean, the first Venom was okay, but after that? Yeesh. And they got yeeshier as they went along.
Let me put it this way. The reputation of these movies is so bad that Netflix has been essentially dumping them onto their schedule. Venom: The Last Dance debuted on February 25th with little advance notice at all. The streaming giant did the same with Madame Web nearly a year ago, on May 14th. Both films performed much better on streaming than they did at movie theaters.

The critically panned Spider-Man spin-off (which ultimately brought Sony’s ill-thought-out shared universe to an end), Kraven the Hunter is ready to enact brutal vengeance on Netflix next month. The comic book action outing, which stars Kick-Ass and Bullet Train star Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the Marvel antihero, caused yet another divide between critics and audiences at the time, with the latter crowd no doubt excited to be able to stream Kraven at home.
Kraven the Hunter will be available to stream on Netflix in the United States on March 13, 2025, according to What’s on Netflix. Directed by J. C. Chandor from a screenplay by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk, Kraven the Hunter tells the origin of the Marvel character, much like Venom before it. Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko for "The Amazing Spider-Man" #15 back in 1964, Kraven the Hunter follows the title character on a violent vendetta.

As the last stronghold of live-action Marvel characters outside the grasp of Disney and the MCU, Sony has been relentlessly attempting a cinematic universe of their own. Their latest venture, Kraven the Hunter, closed out 2024 with Sony's first R-rated Marvel movie. Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular apex predator, the film continued the streak of shifting Spider-Man's foes into anti-heroes, if not outright heroes. J. C. Chandor directed, which felt promising after his work helming A Most Violent Year and Margin Call, but, ultimately, none of these characters have been proven to thrive in Spidey's absence.

As we told you earlier today, Kraven the Hunter arrive on Digital platforms starting tomorrow, January 14. Now, it's been confirmed that the 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD drops on March 4, the same day Daredevil: Born Again premieres on Disney+.
Which of the R-Rated Marvel Comics adaptations will you choose to watch first? While one of Elektra's sai is on some newly revealed artwork, the Man Without Fear is likely to be a bigger draw than Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Spider-Man villain.
With this news of a Blu-ray release comes a full list of special features; we don't have specifics on those deleted scenes, though we can't imagine that scrapped Venom: The Last Dance crossover will be among them.
The biggest shock might be the fact Sony Pictures found not one but two positive quotes to stick on the Blu-ray's front and back covers...

Kraven The Hunter Ott Release Date Revealed (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
Kraven the Hunter suffered the same fate as the previous Sony’s Spider-Man Universe movies except Venom 3. The film is nowhere on the grid, and nobody is even talking about it. However bad its box office fate, maybe it might get a chance to redeem itself as Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s film is set to arrive online very soon. Scroll below for the deets.
About the film-
The film was directed by Jc Chandor, best known for writing and directing critically acclaimed films, Margin Call, All is Lost, and A Most Violent Year. The English actor appears in the titular role alongside Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Alessandro Nivola, Christopher Abbott, and Russell Crowe in the supporting cast. The movie reportedly faced two years of delays and finally came out in December 2024.

Kraven the Hunter was released in theaters last month to overwhelmingly negative reviews - it sits at 17% on Rotten Tomatoes - and, so far, the movie has made only $58.9 million at the worldwide box office.
Sony Pictures is one of the only studios that doesn't rush its theatrical movies to Digital and streaming. However, with Kraven the Hunter now next to impossible to track down in theaters, a Digital release appears imminent.
According to When to Stream, the movie is scheduled to hit Digital and PVOD on Tuesday, January 14. While this hasn't been confirmed by Sony Pictures, it wouldn't be overly surprising to see the Marvel movie rushed out. Why? Well, so the studio can make its losses back from Digital sales (it's listed on Prime Video for $24.99 to buy and $19.99 to rent).

Actor Alessandro Nivola discusses Kraven the Hunter's reception and explains his satisfaction with his role as the Marvel supervillain Rhino. Despite Kraven the Hunter's star-studded cast, the sixth installment in Sony's Spider-Man Universe was met with some of the worst reviews in the franchise, and even worse box office results. Besides the titular villain-turned-antihero, Kraven the Hunter introduced three more famous Spider-Man antagonists — Dmitri Smerdyakov a.k.a. Chameleon, Calypso, and Aleksei Sytsevich a.k.a. Rhino.
In an interview with THR, Rhino actor Alessandro Nivola looks back on his antagonist role in Kraven the Hunter. When asked about his opinion on the factors that may have played into Kraven the Hunter's poor performance despite director J.C. Chandor's otherwise remarkable career, Nivola mentions the possible changes the studio might have made to the director's original vision and praises his previous work with Chandor. The Sony Spider-Man Villain-verse, or just villain-verse, or just Spider-verse, or that one with Madame Web in it (they never did settle on a proper name), has officially come to a close. We wish we could say it went out with a bang, but the recently released Kraven the Hunter helped to define the franchise as the biggest so-bad-it's-good cinematic universe of all-time. The film received terrible reviews from critics and audiences, who had already lost hope after the first trailers were released. Alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular anti-hero, the film also stars Alessandro Nivola as the Rhino, the film's actual villain. But, the actor himself isn't aware of the extreme negative backlash surrounding the movie, and is struggling to come up with a reason as to why it flopped.

The following contains spoilers for Kraven the Hunter, now playing in theaters.
As J.C. Chandor's Kraven the Hunter unfolds, fans can't help but feel forlorn even before the movie ends. That's because they know this is more than likely the final live-action film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (Ssu). Though, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is still in production, it does seem like Kraven is finishing the live-action shared universe.
However, there is a key avenue that Marvel can follow after the Sony partnership didn't reap its full dividends: Disney+. The streaming service can save this superhero franchise in the form of animated series that are meant to extend what these movies tried to accomplish.

Kraven the Hunter was positioned as a darker, grittier entry in Sony’s knockoff Spider-Man Universe, exploring the origin story of one of Spider-Man’s most fearsome foes. Unfortunately, the film fails to deliver on nearly every front, leaving me somewhat disappointed and questioning the purpose of its very existence. Here, I am going to gleefully breakdown some of the film’s shortcomings.
A Script That Hunts Itself
The screenplay is the heart of any film, and Kraven the Hunter suffers from a muddled and uninspired script. Instead of crafting a compelling origin story, the narrative feels like a collection of generic tropes borrowed from better films. It awkwardly attempts (and fails) to balance Kraven’s tragic backstory with some not exactly subtle environmental themes,...

While he’s been making a strong impression in films from the likes of John Woo and Nicolas Winding Refn for the last three decades, 2024 marks a major year for Alessandro Nivola. Earlier this year saw the release of Ethan Hawke’s Wildcat and, this Friday, Nivola can be seen in Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist and Pedro Almodóvar’s The Room Next Door.
In The Brutalist, Nivola gives a formidable performance as Attila, immigrant cousin to Adrien Brody’s László Tóth and his sole connection to America. The backbone of the epic film’s first act, Attila provides an entry point into assimilation and the sacrifices and consolations one must shed in pursuit of the American Dream.
Ahead of the film’s release, Conor O’Donnell and I spoke with Nivola, who returned to The B-Side to discuss working with auteurs, conveying the process of assimilation, and the “total...

Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Kraven the HunterKraven the Hunter, also known as Sergei Kravinoff, comes straight from Marvel Comics and into live-action for the first time in Sony's first R-rated Marvel movie. Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular hunter and directed by J. C. Chandor, who helms the film after impressive turns like Margin Call and A Most Violent Year, Kraven the Hunter puts the villain into an implied anti-hero position, which isn't entirely unheard of for his comic book counterpart. Many members of Marvel's rogues' gallery have their noble moments, but this live-action iteration of Kraven feels almost like a superhero through and through. From the film's trailers, it was difficult to gauge whether Sony's latest venture would stick closely to Kraven's comic origins. It seemed as if this version of Kraven acquired his power after suffering the bite of a lion, the subsequent wound...

Sony continued to expand its spider-verse this year, introducing various heroes, anti-heroes and now, a man who is typically a villain. That man? Kraven the Hunter.
Played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson — one of the rare actors who have had crossover in the MCU (he played Pietro Maximoff) and Sony’s spider-verse — Sergei Kravinoff is at the center of the film, as he develops animal-based superpowers. This deviates from the character of the comics, who is typically just a very intense big game hunter that hates spiders — hence his proclivity to hunt Spider-Man.
But this is an origin story, one that only hints at Kraven’s future path with Spider-Man. We’re not going to spoil things for you though.
We’re just here to let you know how to watch “Kraven the Hunter.”
When does “Kraven the Hunter” come out?

Kraven the Hunter appears as an unusual relic within Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (Ssu) amid the chaotic realm of superhero cinema. This film, released amid the failed efforts of Madame Web and Venom: The Last Dance, addresses the essence of its eponymous character, converting him from a deadly antagonist to a morally ambiguous anti-hero.
Kraven, aka Sergei Kravinoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), navigates a maze of personal pain and toxic masculinity. His origin, which was preserved by lion blood and mystical medicines, serves as a symbol for the duality of human nature. This shift raises problems about identity and redemption, such as what strength means when it is based on violence and familial dysfunction.
The film’s locations, from Siberia to London, represent Kraven’s emotional struggle, reflecting historical myths about foreigners struggling with identity. Nikolai (Russell Crowe) embodies the overbearing father, reminiscent of paternal legacies that shape future pathways.

Plot: As a boy, Sergei Kravinoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) was mauled by a lion, only to be saved by a mysterious serum that granted him amazing physical and mental powers. Abandoning the criminal empire run by his father (Russell Crowe), Sergei, now known as Kraven, hunts down evildoers, only to be pulled back into his father’s orbit when his half-brother, Dmitri (Fred Hechinger) is kidnapped.
Review: It’s gotten to the point now that when you see the Sony logo before an “in association with Marvel” banner, you can’t help but cringe. Remember back when Madam Web came out and we all hoped Sony would do better with its Marvel properties with Kraven the Hunter? Yeah, we need to keep hoping. It seems as if Sony just doesn’t even care about these Marvel movies anymore.
Kraven the Hunter is about a Russian man named Sergei Kravinoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson from Nosferatu) who survived a lion attack as a boy when a girl named Calypso (Ariana DeBose from I.S.S.) gave him a special elixir. The potion not only saved his life, but gave him incredible strength, speed, and agility. As a grown man, he decides to use these new skills to become Kraven the Hunter, a vigilante who goes after the worst of the worst criminals.

Sony’s Marvel Comics adaptation Kraven the Hunter is set to reach theatres on December 13th. This movie is, along with Morbius, Madame Web, and the Venom trilogy, part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (which was formerly known as the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters), which consists of Marvel adaptations that doesn’t have the creative team of Marvel Studios behind them, so therefore they’re not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sony is able to make these films because they own the movie rights to all characters that were originally introduced in the pages of Spider-Man comics. The financial success of the Venom movies aside (and that trilogy has had diminishing returns), these movies haven’t tended to go over well with movie-goers, something which Kraven director J. C. Chandor (A Most Violent Year) has had to address, asking that people give his movie the chance to...

After Sony’s recent Marvel misfires on 2022’s Morbius and this year’s Madame Web, I wasn’t holding out too much hope for yet another Marvel villain origin story when I headed to the press screening of Kraven the Hunter. Its shuffling around the release schedule didn’t give me much hope, and word spread from someone at a rival studio that the exhibitor screening didn’t go well, also dampening my hopes.
But I always try to go into a movie with an open mind, and in this case, although Kraven is a well-known villain in the comic book world and has popped up here and there, a starring movie wasn’t top of my list.
That said, I had a surprisingly good time with this ultraviolent R-rated telling of how a Russian kid, Sergei Kravinoff, grows up to become a fearsome hunter — not of animals, who he spiritually embraces,...

Picture this: filmmaker Jc Chandor directing a Marvel movie with Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the villain Kraven The Hunter, facing off against Spider-Man or Black Panther as written by Ryan Coogler. If you watch “Kraven The Hunter” and watch Taylor-Johnson’s commanding presence and what Chandor is capable of—as a filmmaker and a budding action director— you can imagine this idea being a worthwhile film with Kraven being a laudable successor to a ruthless and unmerciful Killmonger-type antagonist.

Sony, in association with Marvel, delivers its latest supervillain origin story with Kraven the Hunter, a cinematic death knell that suggests perhaps fans have been too harsh about the Venom trilogy by comparison. As Deadpool would say, Kraven arrives "at a bit of a low point," and proceeds to pummel its source material into the ground. Granted, the comic book iteration of Kraven's modus operandi was to hunt Spider-Man simply because the most dangerous game is the most thrilling to hunt. There's not much meat to the material, but director J. C. Chandor fails to elevate what he's given to work with.
We begin in a Russian tundra, where Sergei Kravinoff, aka Kraven (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) infiltrates a super-max facility housing murderous lifers. His target: Seymyon Chorney, the head of a criminal organization whose tiger rug becomes an implement in his own demise. Smacking his chops like a yawning dog, with brows in a perpetual arch,...

‘Kraven the Hunter’ Review: J.C. Chandor’s Villainous Epic Arrives Too Late to the Sony-Marvel Party
Have you ever arrived at a New Year’s Eve party about 20 minutes or so after the ball has dropped? No matter if things are still raging or starting to break up, there’s a distinct sense that you missed something vital about the event, and that despite how much you or others may try, the air’s already been let out of the room. That’s the sad state currently faced by “Kraven the Hunter,” a movie that releases in theaters mere days after the announcement that the film marks the official end of Sony’s Marvel Universe.
This isn’t an instance of a movie being caught with its cinematic universe pants down, however; the end credits don’t feature a slew of teases for movies that will now never happen. It’s more quietly tragic then that the movie cuts to credits with no mid-credits scene, no post-credits scene,...

I hate to admit it, but some part of me — certainly not my eyes or ears, but some part of me, at least — is going to miss Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, which the studio is reportedly putting on pause on account of its widespread (and frequently hilarious) creative and commercial failures. Sure, that’s a pretty good reason to rethink an ill-conceived mega-franchise, let alone one that’s named after a character who basically wasn’t allowed to appear in it. And sure, releasing two films as misbegotten as “Madame Web” in the same calendar year is the kind of thing that elevates meme-worthy corporate malfeasance into a subject worthy of a bestselling book about how things went wrong.
But to behold J.C. Chandor’s monumentally goofy “Kraven the Hunter” is to appreciate how refreshing it could be to watch a superhero movie that seemed totally oblivious to the monocultural ecosystem that created it.

The mission of the Spidey Universe of Cinematic Killers at Sony, commonly known as Sucks, has been completed. Venom has been unleashed, some profits have been made, the character license has been extended, and Dakota Johnson has successfully avoided drinking a Pepsi. This means that Kraven—you guys know Kraven?...

Jc Chandor is diving into the world of comic book movies with Kraven The Hunter. The filmmaker has been on a real hot streak since making his feature directorial debut with 2011's Margin Call, quickly following it up with the Robert Redford-led survival drama All is Lost and the Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain-starring crime drama A Most Violent Year. Prior to the Sony's Spider-Man Universe film, Chandor expanded his talents to big-budget filmmaking with Netflix's Triple Frontier, which reunited him with Isaac.
Kraven the Hunter marks the sixth installment in the Ssu, exploring the origins of the titular Sergei Kravenoff who, as a young boy, was left behind by his father during a lion attack. Now, having raised himself and acquired extreme abilities of survival and fighting, Kraven sets off on a quest for vengeance to take down his crime lord father,...

A big-budget, studio-backed comic-book origin story may seem like an unexpected fit for the director of prestige drama films like All is Lost and A Most Violent Year, but J.C. Chandor says he found the origin story of Marvel's iconic supervillain Kraven the Hunter to be irresistible. This is thanks in no small part to a screen story by Richard Wenk (The Equalizer) that focuses heavily on morality and defining choices, notably around Kraven's complex relationship with his crime boss father (Russell Crowe).

Universal Pictures’ blockbuster musical “Wicked” has been named best picture by the National Board of Review, the organization announced on Wednesday, in addition to taking home the directing prize for Jon M. Chu and a special award for the collaboration of stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.
Over the last 40 years, most of the winners of NBR’s best film has gone on to receive an Oscar nomination for best picture, with the exception of films like 1998’s “Gods and Monsters,” 2000’s “Quills” and 2014’s “A Most Violent Year.” In the 1980s, there were technically two misses with 1987’s “Empire of the Sun” and 1983’s “Betrayal,” the latter of which won in a tie with “Terms of Endearment.” So far this decade, Spike Lee’s war drama “Da 5 Bloods” (2020) is the only film to fail to achieve Oscar recognition. Kraven the Hunter has a complex relationship with the Sony/Marvel fandom. Since 2018, screenwriter Richard Wenk has been dutiful about creating a movie about the underrated and underexposed anti-hero of the jungle. It's been a roller coaster with this crew, namely for fans of the Sinister Six (more on that later).
The problem is Sony Pictures can't get out of its own way. The timeline has been much longer than expected, and each delay has spiked nerd anxiety. Yet Aaron Taylor-Johnson believes this film "will not disappoint." For that sentiment to deliver, he needs to sift Kraven's disappointment before throwing that out there. Here's why:
In August 2018, Wenk was hired and started writing Kraven the Hunter. Later in the year, Art Marcum (writer for Iron Man and Transformers: The Last Knight) and Matt Holloway (writer for Men in Black: International and Punisher: War Zone) joined the writing team. Two years later,...

Demi Moore is getting her due thanks to Metrograph.
The “Substance” actress and Hollywood icon is being honored by Metrograph with a five-film series of Moore’s most beloved features, as curated by the theater. Titled “We Want Moore,” the mini festival begins September 13.
“The rapturous reception of Demi Moore’s performance in Coralie Fargeat’s ‘The Substance’ at this year’s Cannes Film Festival seems to have reminded many people that the New Mexico-born actress is a bona fide movie star — not just in terms of box office receipts and magazine cover shoots, but in her seemingly effortless ability to command the screen every time she walks into frame,” the Metrograph press statement reads. “In ‘We Want Moore,’ we’ve brought together some other timely reminders.”
Selected films screening in 35mm include Moore’s iconic turns in “Ghost,” “Indecent Proposal,” and “Striptease,” which Moore recently told Variety was one of her most under-appreciated performances.

Kraven the Hunter director J.C. Chandor teased what fans should expect to see from Sony Pictures next Marvel movie. Before signing on for Kraven the Hunter, Chandor is best known for his work in the acclaimed 2014 crime drama A Most Violent Year, which was led by Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain.
Speaking with Deadline, Chandor continued to hype up his upcoming live-action film adaptation of Kraven the Hunter, promising that fans will definitely be surprised at what theyve got in store for them. "Im extremely proud of the work we have all done together on Kraven, and when the movie finally gets its chance to be seen I think its gonna surprise the hell out of a lot of people," he said. The outlet notes that the films multiple release delays were necessary for Chandor, because it gave the creative team the time "to sharpen the characters and tighten the plot.

“Kraven the Hunter” is ready to take aim.
The J.C. Chandor-directed super villain story, which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the title character, opens on Dec. 13. And you can watch a brand-new trailer below.
Taylor-Johnson plays Sergei Kravinoff, a big game hunter who becomes a conservationist and animal lover. “Kraven the Hunter’s” great supporting cast also includes recent Oscar winner Ariana DeBose plays Calypso, a voodoo princess and Kraven’s love interest, while Russell Crowe plays Kraven’s father and Alessandro Nivola and Christopher Abbott play two other classic Spider-Man baddies – the Rhino and Foreigner, respectively.
The trailer promises plenty of action, with Sony wisely deciding to let Chandor really go for it, embracing its hard R-rating.

While Deadpool & Wolverine is the only MCU movie that will be hitting theaters this year, Sony’s Spider-verse still has two of its villain-ccentric films dropping this year with Venom: The Last Dance and Kraven The Hunter. These films will be released after another Spider-verse movie, Madame Web, made its impression earlier this year. It’s time to hit the game trail as Sony has now released the trailer for Kraven The Hunter.
The film opens December 13 after a couple of delays, in which producer Matt Tolmach explains, “Kraven moved to Christmas because we’re excited about it and Christmas is the best release period there is, when you get people with time to go back to the movies over and over again,” Tolmach said. “That was a real reflection of how the studio felt about the movie. Beware, "Deadpool & Wolverine," another R-rated Marvel movie is coming for your box office crown. With Dr. Michael Morbius and Cassandra Webb failing to become household names, Eddie Brock preparing to retire, and the rumored "Spider-Man 4" starring Tom Holland still out in the wind, it's up to Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Sergei Kravinoff to salvage the future of Sony's Spider-Man Universe. The actor's "Kraven the Hunter" film has gone through multiple release date changes, the most recent of which saw it pushed to mid-December -- because I dunno about you, but when I think of the winter holidays, I think of the guy from "Kick-Ass" biting off people's noses and spitting them out, as Taylor-Johnson does in the first "Kraven" trailer.
In case the actor's face-chomping antics didn't clue you off, "Kraven" has now been officially rated R for "strong bloody violence, and language," and will continue this...

Sony returns to their own Marvel universe with the upcoming Kraven the Hunter, and Sony has unleashed a brand new trailer and poster for the rated “R” comic book movie today.

Christopher Abbott (Possessor) is playing The Foreigner, with Levi Miller (Better Watch Out) also on board.

So far, Sony’s Spider-Man-adjacent Marvel movies have shied away from going hard-r rated – even the Venom films have played it safe overall. But that’s not the case with Kraven The Hunter. The latest outing from the universe formerly known as ‘Spumc’ (the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters) – following on from February’s Madame Web – brings one of Spidey’s most formidable foes to the screen in an origin story that looks to go hard and the blood and gore. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is stepping into the fur-shouldered get-up, on a mission of vengeance that sees him become the world’s greatest hunter. Check out the trailer here:
If there’s an overarching message to this trailer, it’s that Kraven The Hunter is really going hard on the bloody violence – and given that Deadpool & Wolverine just became the second-ever R-rated film to cross the billion-dollar mark at the worldwide box office,...

Sony has now dropped a new R-rated trailer for Kraven the Hunter, the next installment in their (questionable) Spider-Man Universe, aka the Ssu. Los villanos no nacen. Se hacen. © Sony Pictures
Sony Pictures ha publicado un nuevo tráiler y póster de Kraven the Hunter, la visceral historia de acción sobre cómo y por qué uno de los más icónicos villanos de Marvel llegó a serlo.

Sony Pictures has given movie fans their best glimpse yet at the upcoming Marvel film “Kraven the Hunter” with a new trailer released this week. The studio unveiled the dark footage late Tuesday night, offering a deeper look at the complex story and powerful characters set to hit theaters in December 2024.
The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Sergei Kravinoff, a man driven to become a feared big-game hunter after surviving a lion attack that gives him incredible abilities. This is shown in the trailer, which begins by establishing Kravinoff’s determination to become the best hunter in the world. It then provides scenes of his intense training and the visceral actions he takes in hunts across Africa.
Director J.C. Chandor aims to tell a grounded, morally complex tale set in the Marvel universe. His background in highly praised films like “A Most Violent Year” suggests he will bring gritty realism...

Jc Chandor’s Spider-Man adjacent supervillain comic book film Kraven The Hunter has a gory first trailer which can be watched in this post.
In the same year that also brought us the now legendary Madame Web, Sony Pictures has another Spider-Man adjacent comic book movie on the horizon: Kraven The Hunter.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as the title villain – more of an anti-hero here we suppose – who’s on a vengeful rampage after he’s left at death’s door following a lion attack. Fortunately for Kraven (name on birth certificate: Sergei Kravinoff), the lion bite gives him superpowers, which he plans to use on his own gangster father (Russell Crowe) who rather unkindly left him for dead.
Kraven The Hunter is rated R in the US for ‘strong and bloody violence’, and there’s a considerable amount of it in the first trailer (see below). In fact, it’s...

Exclusive: After directing Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the lead role of the Spider-Man spinoff Kraven the Hunter, J.C. Chandor has closed a deal with Sony Pictures to direct a new untitled contemporary drama he has written. It might be his next outing as director. This comes after Sony saw Chandor’s latest cut, which prompted a move to a December 13 release slot. The new trailer for Kraven bows shortly.
The new film is a drama that is a callback to his early films Margin Call, A Most Violent Year and Triple Frontier, in terms of the polemics of capitalism. I’ve heard this one is a contemporary thriller involving the investigation of a death in a moneyed dynastic family. Think Succession with an Erin Brockovich feel.
Kraven stars Taylor-Johnson as the son of a ruthless Russian gangster (Russell Crowe). He is an incredibly efficient hunter who has a complicated and antagonistic relationship with his father.
