OK, so I went into this film with a clean slate, no preconceived anything. I don't want to put any spoilers, but I have to say, amazingly fun flick. I've been watching low budget horror films my entire life and this film has everything a horror fan can enjoy. The gore, the dialogue, the low budget effects... its all there, and pretty damn fun. The filmmaking is resorceful and clever in the same mindset of "VHS". Great use of the envinornment all round. Biggest problem most low budget films has is a consistent tone, and this movie nails it. If there's something that doesn't scare you, you'll laugh like you're supposed to in any good horror movie. Great party movie.... especially for snowy days.
If you are looking for an original film by a new director and writer, this is the film for you! While this is a horror film, there are virtually no gory scenes so it is suitable for all ages to view, although parents should be advised for some very minimal use of adult language.
The plot of Frostbite keeps the viewer attentive and wondering what will happen next right up to the last minute of the film. The character development of protagonist Jake and his family and friend that he meets upon moving to Finland carries the plot from one scene to the next. The superstitions and subsequent laws of the village Jake moves to creates a conflict the viewer hopes to see resolved.
This film encapsulates what it means to vertically integrate filmmaking. The amount of work and effort that was put into this feature length film was largely done by one person in less than a year, which is a huge feat many cannot even fathom completing themselves.
