Kamisama no inai nichiyôbi

On Monday, God created the world....then one day, the biblical tale changed and on Sunday, God abandoned the world. He left humanity to fend for itself, including with death.

Humans are no longer able to die or give birth to children. But as a final "gift", he allowed beings known as Grave Diggers to begin appearing and put the walking dead down, to finally die.

In such a world, a young girl is trying to make her way as one such Grave Digger, though an anomaly even amongst her own kind. Now she must make her way through a world she's never known, learn lessons and new feelings.

This was an anime with so much promise that never got a much deserved second season. Instead it got a nostalgic OVA episode to make you see the story from the eyes of the main cast and again....leaves you wishing for more.

Its dramatic, dark, an anime art style of its time, with English voice actors that, at the time, didn't have much credits behind them. So it has its rough edges. But its still really good and got me back into anime after a severe bout with depression.

Between her learning to love and let go with her father, learning that she can choose her own family with Louki and Scar, and learning to never give up on her dreams with Alice, this is an extremely heartwarming story. This is officially one of my favorite animes now simply because it reminds of how life can be what one makes of it and that deep feelings for others can happen before one even realizes it. I will be watching this again and hoping for a second season (despite my disbelief of that happening) simply to understand what truly happened to Alice - I've never had an anime leave me so unsure.
