“Succession” star Kieran Culkin is poised to make the journey from the Emmys to the Oscars thanks to his role in the red-hot film, “A Real Pain.” From Searchlight Pictures, “A Real Pain” is written and directed by actor Jesse Eisenberg, who made his debut as writer-director in 2022 with the acclaimed “When You Finish Saving The World.” This one follows Eisenberg and Culkin as a pair of mismatched cousins who tour through Poland in an attempt to honor their grandmother. Their journey is threatened to be derailed, however, when old tensions and family history, rear their head once more.
The trailer for the film promises a smart, witty comedy-drama that seems perfect for the quick-fire delivery styles of both Eisenberg and Culkin. Culkin, in particular, could really shine here in his role as Benji Kaplan. In fact, we are so excited about this film that Culkin is currently in our...

In the crowded landscape of alien invasion films, Brian Hanson’s The Bunker attempts to carve out a niche by combining the tension of isolation with the existential dread of extraterrestrial threat.
From the outset, The Bunker sets its tone with a familiar yet effective premise: mysterious alien ships appear in the skies, casting a shadow of impending doom over humanity. The film doesn’t linger on the spectacle of global chaos; instead, it zooms in, both literally and figuratively, on a single character, Dr. Michelle Riley, played by Edmundson. Tasked with the unenviable mission of creating a bio-weapon to defeat the extraterrestrial invaders, Riley is confined to a claustrophobic underground bunker, isolated from her team, who are similarly sequestered in their own bunkers.
This setup immediately brings to mind the psychological horror of films like 10 Cloverfield Lane, where the terror is as much about the unknown as it is about the physical threat.

As we mentioned a few weeks back, to soften the delay of Amnesia: The Bunker, developer Frictional Games decided to release a demo for The Bunker, which is available today on Steam. Ironically, the demo is available the same day as when Amnesia: The Bunker was originally supposed to be released before it was delayed to June 6.
And in case you missed it, check out the 10 minutes of gameplay footage that was also released a few weeks back to give you further insight into the game’s claustrophobic environments.
Set during World War 1, Amnesia: The Bunker will have players taking on the role of Henri Clement, a French soldier who is left behind by his battalion and finds himself trapped inside an abandoned military bunker. But he’s not alone. A deadly creature stalks the corridors, hunting for its next meal.

It appears that Frictional Games’ Amnesia: The Bunker will be needing more time for polish. Originally announced back in December for a March 2023 release, the developer has now announced that the game will now launch on May 16 for Xbox Series, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Tom Hanks was the first person to ever receive a leading actor award from the Screen Actors Guild back in 1995. And now you have voted him your top choice to receive the life achievement at the SAG Awards on February 27, 2022. He was far ahead with 33.58% in our recent poll asking which male actor should get this honor. Sir Anthony Hopkins is at 14.34% and Al Pacino gets 13.21% as the only other people in double digits.
The SAG-AFTRA selection committee will likely be announcing their recipient in the near future. Since three men in a row have been selected for 2018, 2019 and 2020, we fully expect a woman to be chosen this time. In fact, we already published an actress poll last week which was won by Barbra Streisand, closely followed by Meryl Streep (see full results here).

The Screen Actors Guild will hold its annual ceremony on February 27, 2022. The SAG-AFTRA selection committee will likely be announcing their life achievement award recipient in the near future. Who do you think should be taking home this prestigious trophy?

Nikias Chryssos' Der Bunker was one of the oddball breakout films of last year. This debut feature from the director follows the strange story of a student looking for a room to rent so he can work on a long term project in peace. When he answers an ad for a room that happens to be in an underground bunker in the middle of the woods, there's no way he could've predicted what he was in for. An isolated family has created their own world under the forest in which they are preparing their young son, Klaus, to become the future president of the Us. It isn't exactly going to plan... Peter Martin saw the film at Fantastic Fest last year and was impressed Making...

Just in time for the beginning of the school year, Nikias Chryssos' Der Bunker arrives on Blu-ray and DVD. It is a strange one. Quoting from the official synopsis: "A student (Pit Bukowski, Der Samurai) rents a room in a bunker home nestled deep within a forest. Here, instead of finding tranquility for his studies, the young man becomes increasingly involved in the dramas of his landlord's family." I saw the film at Fantastic Fest last year and found it quite odd and betwitching ... eventually: Making his feature debut, Nikias Chryssos spends the first part of the film setting up a pitch black comedy, filled it with the sort of mean-spirited, intentionally bizarre, and absurd humor that normally makes my skin crawl. Without giving...

German language cinema has made a number of entries into genre fare over the past year, from the horror film Goodnight Mommy to the one-take thriller Victoria, complementing a stable of well-regarded dramatic fare that includes films such as Das Boot, Funny Games, and The Lives of Others. Newcomer Nikias Chryssos, however, is poised to add to the fare with his feature filmmaking debut Der Bunker. The film’s synopsis is as follows.
A young student seeks quiet and solitude to focus on an important work but ends up as the teacher of a peculiar boy who is home-schooled by his parents in an isolated bunker mansion.
Chryssos takes on both writing and directing duties for the film, which made its Us Premiere at the 2015 Fantastic Fest. The cast includes Pit Bukowski, Daniel Fripan, and Oona von Maydell, and the film’s Us trailer has now been released. The trailer can be seen below,...

It’s hard for a mother to remain unemotional when she watches her baby leave the proverbial coop, but Der Bunker is what happens when those feelings manifest into a hostage scenario of sorts. It’s your atypical twisted fairytale about a boy, locked away from the world without any sense of maturation, but that’s only where we begin. Der Bunker then delves into absolute insanity by introducing the likes of a festering wound that oversees the homemade prison like a God, primitive punishments, and questionable breastfeeding practices – a line of brilliance that German filmmaker Nikias Chryssos dances upon with unimaginable ferocity.
Pit Bukowski plays a young academic (referred to as “Student”), who seeks quiet refuge so he can advance the realms of science with his new Higgs particle theory (science-y stuff). Upon entering his newly rented room, the student meets a family who is as frugal as they are strange.

Germany, 2015
Der Bunker is like some abandoned back-alley shopping cart full of fascinating curiosities that don’t quite tell a complete story. The feature debut of German director Nikias Chryssos is a Lynchian labyrinth of disconnected weirdness that still feels oddly satisfying. A horror-comedy that strives to disturb rather than scare, Der Bunker meticulously creates a world of perverse pleasures.
Things start innocently enough with the Student (Pit Bukowski) responding to an advertisement about an apartment for rent… in a secluded bunker. “Didn’t the ad mention a lake view?” he asks the peculiar caretaker, known only as Father (David Scheller). The Student is looking for peace and quiet to finish his tangential research on Higgs particles, so a bunker in the middle of the German wilderness seems like the perfect setting for uninterrupted solitude. Too bad his renters have other plans for him.

Read More: Arstploitation Films Acquires Bizarre German Comedy 'Der Bunker' A twisted and bizarre new trailer has been released for the German black comedy "Der Bunker." The film, directed by Nikias Chryssos, had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year, and will play at this year's Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas. The above trailer sees a young graduate student going to live with a family in their windowless, underground bunker (as all families have), so that he may better focus on a project he describes only as "scientific." Once the young man has been hermetically sealed away with the bizarre husband and wife, they task him with tutoring their son, Klaus. Unfortunately for the young academic, Klaus is a nearly unteachable student, and the longer he stays in the bunker, the harder it is to tell whether Klaus or his parents are more deranged.

The family welcomes him with great friendliness and, at first, everything seems to be fine. But after a while the parents increasingly use the...

Artsploitation Films has secured the U.S. rights to "Der Bunker," a German comedy that premiered at the 2015 Berlin Film Festival. "Der Bunker," the debut feature from Nikias Chryssos, is a dark comedy set entirely within a windowless bunker housing a husband, wife and their learning-challenged son. A young graduate student soon enters the bunker to tutor the son...whom the parents are grooming to be president of the United States. Artsploitation's president Ray Murray described the film as, "So peculiar yet amazingly memorable," and said, "I felt we had to have this odd comedy. Reminiscent of the works of John Waters, David Lynch and Luis Buñuel, Chryssos creates a reality where conventional story-telling, and its accompanying logic, is left outside the steps, it will be a pleasure to present it to unsuspecting audiences!" For the second year running, a German film wins the grand prize at the 9th annual Mauvais Genre Film Festival in Tours, France. After Till Kleinert’s The Samourai in 2014, Der Bunker, directed by Nikias Chryssos and a sensation at the Berlin Film Festival last February, took two best picture trophies, awarded by both the pro and press juries. Festival director Gary Constant, who selected the films in competition, was not joking when he said prior to its scenting that he had saved the best for last. A unique piece of work, Der Bunker is twisted yet engaging, abstract and parabolic, funny yet flippant. Seeking total isolation to focus on an important research, a student (Pit Bukowski) sublets a couple’s bunker to work without any distractions. Instead, he ends up as the teacher of his idiosyncratic landlords’ son Klaus (Daniel Fripan), a peculiar boy who is home-schooled, is dressed...
