I can't make myself care about the characters

After a couple of episodes I started cheering against the main character. He is unlikable, makes ridiculous decisions and he constantly has a constipated or frustrated look on his face. He comes across as a generic meat-head with no depth. The rest of the characters are just as one dimensional.

I understand what they were trying to achieve. A young hungry contender gets an opportunity and fights his way to the top. Unfortunately the writers decided to take every possible shortcut then added a bunch of pointless forced conflicts in an amateurish attempt to create tension.

It's a shame the creators of the show decided against doing something a little more imaginative.

    A bit too unnatural

"The Cage" brings a fresh take to the French television landscape, presenting a unique concept that holds a lot of potential. However, while I found the show entertaining enough to watch through, I came away with mixed feelings. In my opinion, there were some notable shortcomings that kept the series from reaching its full potential.

First, the length of the series felt surprisingly short. It seemed as though the creators were aiming for a fast-paced narrative, but the compact nature of the episodes left much to be desired in terms of depth. With more episodes, or longer ones, I think "The Cage" could have provided a richer experience by allowing the characters and story to develop more naturally. As it stands, certain storylines felt rushed, and some characters lacked the growth I would have expected, making it harder to fully connect with the cast and their experiences.

The pacing ties into another issue: the overall plot quality. There's a sense of originality, yet I couldn't shake the feeling that the storyline was somewhat superficial. The central themes are intriguing, but without a more intricate plot or layered character development, the story came across as basic at times. I wanted more complexity or even just a few twists to keep me engaged. Instead, the plot stayed on a straightforward path, which unfortunately made it predictable.

Another drawback was the show's tone and delivery, which felt a bit forced and unnatural. The dialogue, in particular, seemed scripted rather than flowing with the authenticity that can make a series truly engaging. This created a disconnect, as the conversations sometimes lacked the spontaneity and realism that draw viewers in. It's possible that the creators wanted to capture a stylized feel, but in my view, this approach didn't fully succeed and left the characters seeming one-dimensional in certain scenes.

While "The Cage" isn't without its strengths, such as its cinematography and occasional standout moments, these elements didn't completely make up for the weaker aspects. Visually, the series is well-composed, and some scenes display artistic touches that were enjoyable. But ultimately, a show needs to be driven by more than aesthetics to be memorable, and here, the style didn't entirely compensate for the substance.

In summary, "The Cage" was an interesting watch, but one that left me wanting more in terms of depth, realism, and complexity. I would recommend it if you're looking for something light and brief, but for those seeking a more immersive, high-quality drama, this series might not meet your expectations. Despite its intriguing premise, it seems to fall short in execution.

Great short MMA tv show but is missing alot to make it truly great

I saw a some clip of this show on Netflix with Jon jones and decided to give it a watch I was intrigued by the cameos made in the show . However in the beginning the plot seem basic , and very predictable. Winning over the coach / boss trust of a local mma fighting gym to give him a shot a bigger fights against pros . Throughout the show there were some twist and turns that I appreciated to give it more spontaneity and unpredictability which I liked . The cinematography was amazing however the dialogue and overall acting form the characters felt bland and lack true emotion and depth . I wished they would've added more realism and depth to the characters like the protagonist mother the lives of side characters instead of just having the center focus of Taylor . Only 5 episodes was surprising I watched in one sitting expecting another episode as the last episode left a lot of unanswered questions and this show could've easily been 10 episodes . I wonder if there is going to be a second episode of this show or is this it because if it only has 5 episodes that would truly be underwhelming. Show could be better but I see the vision and understand the characters that were prorated . The fights looks realistic and especially the last fight felt like i was watching an actual main card fight from ufc ppv .

    Good show but......

Needs new writers! Too many small mistakes. Like for instance, the mother and boyfriend, needed an ass kicking. Not realistic! Needs to be more realistic! Has the potential to be a great show. The small details matter alot. The script is weak and needs revamping. Call Samu Hong for help with choreography. Also, he will be beating Ibrahim ass and then one hit he's all done rolling on the mat come on! Just make this show more believable than it is. And 400 words to do a review this is also ridiculous! Why does everyone make things so difficult? The writers need to put more time and effort into this.

    taylor, taylor, taylor, taylor!!

Aaawww loved it! It was nice, his parents-OMG! What was that? This wasn't about the undadog at all. Like with a fatha, a motha, a best friend @ niko n' a coach who didn't want to coach him or believe in him. He just kept hearin the same thing ova and ova at how he wasn't good enough just constantly placin limitations upon his life and none of them thought highly of him. I was so happy he found happiness the day he did when he did. I was even happier it was SINCERE happiness. Taylor despite his odds had a pretty discent head on his shoulders. The things his mom said to him were just i don't even have words for. She had the nerve to even tell him how she was embrassed of him can you imagine? The mother was worser than the dad. It makes you wonder what makes a female be as that toward her own child when the fatha doesn't seem to have beat on her or even had abandoned her. She was just BEYOND one in a million. EVEN after got betrayed by her he still stood up in thought his dad his mom. He was sucha sweet person non deservin of motha as that. I really liked the how the the club had real team men ship. How the coach spoke of him to his parents. I even saw how boss was lookin at niko in a questionable way. He even warned taylor when he got big if niko didn't he'd see the change in their relationship. Boss/coached showed him that he did believed in him and alined him with the people that even in his absence helpled taylor get outta his rut. It was a clean show, not alot of violence, sex scene or bad words. Its a show you can watch with your kids.
