    AWESOME! WHAT A SHOW!

This season Finale episode was jam packed with so much intense content. It really does not disappoint at all! Make no mistake, you are fully engaged and on your toes the whole way through! This show is incredible! They really masterfully made this season finale too! Then, just like the season 1 finale, but I'd say 10x more intense, you get hit with several "WHAAATTT!" Moments where your mind is completely blown and you are just left trying to process everything that just happened and what it all means. Absolutely insane and amazing show! I NEED Season 3 ASAP!! I can't wait to see what happens! Such suspense and So many questions! I HIGHLY Recommend watching this show! I give it a very strong 10/10 !!! Thank you to everyone involved in making this show! Keep it coming! Truly Incredible job!

    Complaining about mysteries...

To each their own, but I enjoyed this finale.

A lot of reviewers don't seem to understand that this is a series of books (3), and this season represents the end of book one... and book one had two very distinct halves to it.

You're not supposed to have all the answers now; that's what book 2 and 3 give.

The "Cliffhanger ending"? It's preparing you for the next season as, we're going to get to know those characters and that time period.

Complaining about mysteries in a story about mysteries is like complain Jaws had a shark. If you don't like slow burn stuff then no worries, there's loads of stuff out there.

You know what happens when a show rushes? Game of Thrones Season 6, and I think we can all agree; that was a train wreck.

For now enjoy the answers you did get.

For my part; I loved the books, the show does them justice. In fact I think I'm due a re-read.

Silo Season Two (6/10 Stars): A Morass Middle Bogs Down Decent Beginning & End

I consider the first season of Silo to be one of the finest ever constructed in TV drama--the perfect mix of mystery, sci-fi, and strong character work. Sadly, season two does not nearly reach those lofty goals--in large part because of how slow the proceedings move forward for most of these ten episodes.

For a very basic overview, Silo S2 is bifurcated into two portions (which I will not spoil here):

-Juliette's (Rebecca Ferguson) explorations outside the silo.

-The social and political unrest inside the silo, largely due to the machinations of Bernard Holland (Tim Robbins).

The first few S2 episodes are fine. Very much a slow burn, but probably necessary after the whiz-bang S1. A good way to get re-acclimated to the show's characters and themes.

But then, the main problem with S2: for the next 5-6 episodes, very little happens. Juliette's explorations make tedious (if that) progress, and this series is not meant to rest upon the political machinations inside the silo itself. In this stretch, I was giving episode ratings as low as 4 or 5 stars. It was becoming more of a chore than a joy to watch the weekly episode drop.

The final two episodes do (finally) pick up the pace at least a bit. Still nothing to match S1's brilliance, but enough to be engaging for a full 50-60 minutes. The finale's coda always opens an intriguing new plot point that I hope will be expounded upon in subsequent seasons.

For whatever reason, Graham Yost's series stalled out and hit a sophomore slump. With only bits of mystery and sci-fi present (until the final episode) and Juliette on a stagnant solo quest, it was up to the in-silo material to carry the freight--and it simply wasn't strong enough to do so for a vast swath of the season.

I have not given up on the series altogether (though mid-season here I was more tempted than I even want to imagine). The announcement of a four-season confirmed run and the S2 finale give me a spark of hope that Yost & Co. Can perhaps find the S1 magic once again.

Just not enjoyable minute to minute

The show has major pacing issues. Season 1 was delightful because it introduced this interesting new world. I had read the Wool Omnibus Edition years ago but seeing it come alive on the screen was still delightful. Season 2 doesn't have that benefit. We see a new silo but don't learn that much about it. In general this season feels like a drip feet of information to get to the center of JJ Abrams now proverbial mystery box. I struggle with these shows since they often don't pay off but I get strung along because of curiosity. Having read the books and that effect being weaker I think I was able to identify what makes this show really weak though and probably others like it (Under The Dome immediately comes to mind). It's that there is nothing else that makes it enjoyable. The contrast to Apple's Severance is enlightening. To some degree both shows are mystery box shows. However, every second of Severance is a delight. It's shot so well, it's whitty, moving and just all around excellently done. The editing of Silo is bad even in the good episodes. So much footage that could have been cut without losing anything. The writing does little but move the plot along at a drag. There are a few delightful moments (Walker and the major in his office come to mind, even though even that seen could have been edited better by not cutting to people further down) but there are very few of those. Most episodes don't have a single one.

The show just needed much tighter editing, better writing, better so much. Season 2 only lives off the mystery it drags out forever and delivers on nothing else that's why it hurts how little it delivers on the mystery.

    at least something different happened

The way this episode ended really crystallized one of the problems with this show: that for a sci fi series, where anything can happen, it seems to lack very much imagination and ambition. So we get two full seasons that are 90% the same sort of thing happening over and over, with the same dark, dirty look to it all.

Another problem, which I have no idea about since I never read the books, is that the most obvious solution to the mysteries is that a nuclear war wiped out the planet and some people managed to survive in 51 silos (one for each state plus DC?) If that's the situation that we are waiting eons to discover, I can't see how it could be anything but a disappointment. Any answer besides the most obvious one would be better.

Another problem involves the tunnel voice (computer?) and what it said to Lukas Kyle. He's the point of view character in that scene and the audience sees and hears what he does. Except for what the computer says. That's a cheap way of extending a mystery, to hold back what a POV character knows. And then they do it again when he talks with Bernard! This show is really trying my patience.
