Galentines Day was coined thanks to Parks and Recreation. It’s celebrated the day before Valentine’s Day, and is a chance to celebrate the female friends in our lives. There is nothing better than a strong female friendship and being surrounded by women holding us up.

Too many shows have pitted women against women. It was the way of the world in the past, right? Well, now it’s time to see women supporting women, and you need these five shows to do that. Let me say that there are way more than five, though!

Derry Girls

Set during the 1990s, Derry Girls brings us a story of a group of Catholic teenage girls (and a boy) navigating the world of growing up in the midst of The Troubles.

House is celebrating its 20th anniversary this fall so what better time to check in on how old the cast of the Fox hit was then and now!

Premiering on Nov. 16, 2004, House centered around Gregory House, an absolute medical genius with a Sherlock Holmes ability to unravel medical mysteries that baffled other doctors. However, thanks to pain from a blood clot in his leg that had him relying on a cane, House was also an arrogant, selfish, cynical jerk insulting everyone around him.

Patrick J. Adams and Beau Garrett have been officially announced as leads opposite Michelle Pfeiffer in The Madison, the new Yellowstone universe series from Taylor Sheridan. They are joined by newcomer Elle Chapman and Amiah Miller.

Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios and Bosque Ranch Productions, The Madison is a heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana.

Pfeiffer plays the mother of two daughters, played by Chapman and Garrett.

Chapman is Paige McIntosh, a somewhat self-centered woman who indulges in a luxurious New York lifestyle provided by her parents and investment banker husband, Russell McIntosh (Adams), who has followed the life path set before him from the start.

“Good Girls” is getting an Arabic version, marking the first international adaptation of the Universal Television show about three moms embarking on a life of crime.

Titled “Lunch Box,” the Arabic “Good Girls” redo features Egyptian stars Ghada Adel, Jamila Awad and Fadwa Abed in the main roles as three women — two sisters and their friend — who, faced with sudden economic hardship, decide to pull an unlikely heist. Just like in the U.S. original, starring Christina Hendricks, Mae Whitman and Retta, they presume this will improve their lives, only to find themselves spiraling deeper into the criminal world.

Egyptian actors Ahmed Wafik, Hesham Ismail and rapper-actor Shahin also star.

Exclusive: Writer/director/producer Marti Noxon has signed with UTA for representation.

Noxon recently created and executive produced the HBO’s Sharp Objects, starring Amy Adams, which landed an Outstanding Limited Series Emmy nomination. She also co-created and executive produced UnReal, earning a writing Emmy nomination for the first season, which also won a Peabody. She went on to create and executive produce the Bravo drama series Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, and the Joy Nash-Julianna Margulies beauty industry-skewering Dietland for AMC.

Throughout her career, Noxon also has worked in key roles on such culture-defining series as as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Mad Men, Glee and Grey’s Anatomy.

It’s not too often a limited series comes along that leaves you wanting more. Ted is one of those offerings. From creator, executive producer, and all-around comedy titan Seth MacFarlane, the new Peacock prequel series to the popular Ted films is a welcome surprise. The seven-episode show drops on January 11, taking viewers back to 1993 where Ted the stuffed bear (voiced by MacFarlane) deals with post-fame life by heading to high school with 16-year-old John (Max Burkholder). Expect dips into nostalgia and plenty of antics in this new iteration of a Teddy Bear that mysteriously came to life.

MacFarlane, who also serves as showrunner alongside Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh (both of Modern Family), is as sharp as ever here. AMC has canceled the Bob Odenkirk-led series Lucky Hank after just one season, despite positive critical response. The show followed Odenkirk's character, an unlikely chair of the English department at a badly underfunded school, as he copes with a midlife crisis and his wife questions her choices. Odenkirk's current 14-year run on AMC, thanks to his role as Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, comes to an end with the cancelation of Lucky Hank.

Lucky Hank has come to an unfortunate early conclusion; AMC has canceled the Bob Odenkirk-led series after just one season, per Variety. The comedy-drama followed Odenkirk's William Henry Deveraux Jr., the unlikely chair of the English department at Railton College, a badly underfunded school in the Pennsylvania rust belt, as he copes with a midlife crisis. As his life unravels, his wife, Lily (portrayed by The Killing's Mireille Enos), begins questioning her professional path and choices.

Lisa Edelstein reveals she recently was paid 97 cents in residuals for the two episodes of “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce” which she wrote and starred in.

The actress shared the information as she walked the blue carpet at the 2023 Hollyshorts Film Festival’s opening night on Thursday night where she stars in two films being screened, “Swipe NYC” and “Shadow Brother Sunday.”

“I wrote two episodes of ‘Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce’ and I just got a residual check for two episodes for 97 cents. That’s not really a livable wage and that’s a show that is doing well because it was airing on a streamer somewhere,” she told Variety. “It’s our heart and souls. It’s our creativity that’s making these people a lot of money and we should really get paid.”

Get ready for the next genius installment from Donald Glover as Swarm (2023) lands next month. The singer and actor/writer/director has his next hit show lined up due to a deal with Amazon Studios. Following the conclusion of Atlanta, Glover hasn't slowed down his momentum and continues his trend of music-related and black-led stories. Originally titled Hive, Glover developed Swarm with co-creator Janine Nabers (Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce). The actor, comedian, and rapper is also set to star in and adapt the reboot series of the 2005 film Mr. and Mrs. Smith with co-creator Francesa Sloane (The First).

Exclusive: Good Girls star Retta and the series’ creator/executive producer/co-showrunner Jenna Bans and executive producer/co-showrunner Bill Krebs are re-teaming for Murder By the Book, a new NBC hourlong crime drama, which has received a put pilot commitment by NBC. The project comes from Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, where Bans and Krebs are under overall deals, and also stems from Retta’s talent holding deal with NBCUniversal TV & Streaming.

Written and executive produced by frequent collaborators Bans and Krebs, and executive produced by Retta, Murder By the Book follows a big-city Instafamous book reviewer (Retta) who takes a page out of the murder mystery books she reviews and becomes an unlikely detective to uncover the shocking truths about an eccentric seaside town.

If you find yourself watching “Criminal Minds” over and over again on Netflix, you’re going to have to start looking for a different show to watch. The CBS procedural drama is one of the various shows and movies set to leave Netflix in June 2022, as June 29 will mark the departure date of 13 seasons of “Criminal Minds” that are currently streaming on Netflix.

Another departing show that’s long called Netflix its home is “Documentary Now!” The first three seasons of the IFC comedy series starring Bill Hader and Fred Armisen are due to exit Netflix on June 2.

Other shows leaving Netflix in June include “The Night Shift,” “Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce,” “Reign” and “The Originals.” On the movie side, “Silver Linings Playbook,” “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” “The Exorcist” and “Stand by Me” are all leaving Netflix this month as well.

Steven Pasquale of “Rescue Me” has been cast as a recurring guest star in Peacock’s upcoming crime-drama series “The Missing,” the streamer announced on Tuesday.

Stephanie Szostak and Tony Curran will also recur.

The series, which is based on the bestselling novel “The Missing File” by Israeli author Dror A. Mishani, is produced by David E. Kelley, alongside Keshet Studios and Universal Television. Barry Levinson has been tapped to direct multiple episodes and executive produce the series.

“The Missing” follows Detective Avraham (Jeff Wilbusch), an NYPD detective with the 77th precinct who is left to question his own humanity when a seemingly routine investigation turns upside down.

The rest of the previously announced cast includes Juliana Canfield as NYPD rookie detective Janine Harris, Karen Robinson as no-nonsense Captain Helen Davies, and Michael Mosley as veteran cop Detective Earl Malzone.

Lisa Edelstein is exiting “9-1-1: Lone Star” after playing Gwyneth Morgan, the wife of Rob Lowe’s Chief Owen Strand and the mother of Ronen Rubinstein’s T.K. Strand, for two seasons on the Fox drama, Variety has learned exclusively.

Edelstein’s departure was hinted at in the final moments of Monday’s episode of “Lone Star,” when T.K. received a devastating phone call letting him know that his mother had been killed. However, this hour, “Red vs. Blue,” did not actually show Gwyn’s death, and “Lone Star” fans will get a chance to see her again before she’s officially gone.

Bilodeau, who appeared in the CBS comedy as Dr. Daniel Kutcher, also starred in Freeform’s Baby Daddy for six seasons. The actor’s additional credits include a series regular role on ABC Family’s Kyle Xy and a guest star spot on Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce. He has also acted in Casa Vita, All in Time, Expecting Amish and Lionsgate’s Lol.

He will still be repped by Alchemy Entertainment, Cue Management, and Goodman Genow.

Donald Glover has signed an eight-figure overall deal with Amazon Studios, sources tell Variety, marking an exit from his current deal with Disney’s FX. His brother Stephen Glover, a collaborator in writing and producing FX’s “Atlanta,” has also inked an overall with the studio.

As part of the agreement, Donald Glover’s work will be highlighted with a curated content portal on the Prime Video service, according to a person familiar with the deal.

Sources also say that Malia Obama is joining the writers’ room of a Glover project at the streaming service’s studio, a mini-room for a Janine Nabers project about a “Beyonce-like figure.” Nabers is known for her work on “Watchmen,” “Away,” and “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce.”

One of the highest profile Buffy the Vampire Slayer writer-producers, Marti Noxon, has spoken out in support of cast members Charisma Carpenter, Michelle Trachtenberg and Amber Benson who have accused series creator/executive producer Joss Whedon of abuse and creating a toxic work environment.

Noxon joined Buffy as co-producer at the start of Season 3 and rose through the ranks to executive producer/showrunner on the show’s final two seasons, Season 6 and 7. Carpenter was on the show for the first three seasons, Trachtenberg on Seasons 5-7 and Benson for Seasons 4-6.

“I would like to validate what the women of Buffy are saying and support them in telling their story. They deserve to be heard,” Noxon wrote on Twitter. I understand where Charisma, Amber, Michelle and all the women who have spoken out are coming from.”

Katherine Heigl is looking back on her time in the spotlight, including her perceived reputation for being "difficult."

The former Grey's Anatomy actress chatted with the Washington Post about her past and has said that how she was described in her twenties "pisses me off."

"I may have said a couple of things you didn't like, but then that escalated to 'she's ungrateful,' then that escalated to 'she's difficult,' and that escalated to 'she's unprofessional,'" the actress told the publication.

"What is your definition of difficult? Somebody with an opinion that you don't like? Now, I'm 42, and that s--- pisses me off."

Heigl appeared on Grey's Anatomy from 2005 to 2010 as Izzie Stevens, a role that earned her an Emmy award.

Long-time NBCUniversal executive Jeff Wachtel has left the company, Variety has confirmed. He most recently served as president of NBCUniversal International Studios.

Variety understands that Wachtel’s departure follows some issues pertaining to respect in the workplace, after which it was agreed that Wachtel would leave the company. It’s believed a search for his replacement is underway.

Wachtel served for nearly two decades at NBCUniversal, crossing the pond to London in 2018 to oversee NBCU International’s portfolio of production companies and manage the development of formats and content partnerships for the Peacock. Replacing Michael Edelstein as head of the business’s international TV strategy, Wachtel’s arrival in the U.K. was met with much fanfare, and he became a regular face at local conferences like the Royal Television Society events.

In Christmas Waltz, after Avery’s (Chabert) storybook Christmas wedding is canceled unexpectedly, dance instructor Roman (Kemp) helps her rebuild her dreams.

Directed by Michael Damian, Christmas Waltz will air as part of Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas 2020.

Christmas Waltz reunites Kemp and Chabert, who starred in last year’s Valentine-themed Hallmark Channel movie Love, Romance & Chocolate. This will be Chabert’s ninth Christmas movie for Hallmark Channel and Kemp’s third.

Known for playing Lord Darnley in the CW’s Reign and Scott on Bravo’s Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, Kemp most recently starred opposite January Jones and Kaya Scodelario in ice skating drama Spinning Out for Netflix. He’ll next be seen in the upcoming UK independent film Barbarians.

USA Network is giving Dare Me fans something to… not cheer about, cancelling the drama after just one season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. But all hope is not lost, as the Netflix co-production is reportedly being shopped around to other outlets.

Based on Megan Abbott’s 2012 novel of the same name, Dare Me peeled back the curtain on competitive high school cheerleading, exposing the sport’s dark — and apparently crime-riddled — underbelly.
