This crime comedy is obviously a low budget project. So I'm willing to look past the bad CGI, occasional bad acting and bloodless massacred dead bodies. Even though this movie is firstly about villains, but in the core, it's about friendship. And in my book, that's a good enough reason to keep watching it to the end. I happened to get a few good laughs and chuckles watching the silliness of the main characters. There's a little bit of plot twist at the middle of the movie. As it turned out, the superhero isn't really the good guy. You'll see what I meant when you watch it. Even though it's not memorable, but this movie is a good enough pick to pass the time.
I wasn't sure what to expect for the Villains, inc. Movie, but I was thoroughly entertained yet felt a little awkward the whole time. The dialogue was clever, lots of funny bits and physical comedy, but the movie did seem to drag on a little. Loved the characters of mega death and Alex. I thought the filming was very visually interesting and theming was cohesive throughout. I do wish there was one musical number just to throw everyone off, felt like it could be on brand for this odd comedy villain film. I appreciated that the film felt more mature without being gory, raunchy, or crude. I laughed a lot, but wouldn't watch again.
The movie effectively feels like a feature length series of Studio C sketches. And like all sketch comedy shows, there are some hits and some misses. To its credit, the film did make me laugh a double-digit number of times. The funniest jokes were when the film would poke fun at a story beat that would typically go by unnoticed. All the actors are funny and are good at selling a joke.
I miss the days when low budget films looked more like a series of puppets and miniatures, opposed to overreliance on CGI. The practical effects were just so charming. But this is the world we live in now.
It it the story that ties together this series of jokes where the main problem lies. Too formulaic and too nonsensical.
It may not be super, but it does have a handful of laughs.

A rare super-hero comedy farce film in the tradition of Mystery Men. I missed it in theaters so I'm glad this 2023 film can finally be rented on streaming as of 11/7/24. Yes, it is low budget indie film, but there were lots of extras, special effects and a well known comedian in the movie. The writer showed he has talent. The story goes to many different places as these hapless down-and-out team of henchmen find trouble and seek fortune. The actors had solid funny bits throughout. Lots of funny side characters that our henchmen team meet as well. So be the Bast and drink up for justice as you watch this fun romp.
I was completely stunned to see a full-length Studio C film being offered at a major theater in my Midwest city, far, far away from Provo. So I had to check it out.
Unfortunately, the sparkling wit of the cast, who are so entertaining in comedy sketches, doesn't survive being stretched out to a full length show.
This is the sort of direct-to-VHS type movie I would have obsessively watched over and over and over again when I 6, but find bland and unmoving as an adult.
So, embrace that. It keeps the Studio C standards for no swearing or lewd humor, and all violence is cartoon level, so take your super hero obsessed preschool and younger elementary-aged kiddos and scroll your phone in boredom while they laugh their heads off at things like an "Evil Petco" plan to take over the world or a robot bracelet that makes the wearers do silly dances on command.
