A biopic on Tarla Dalal and her journey from a housewife to super Chef.
The movie talks about her journey focusing on her attempt at publishing her first book and then doing first Cooking TV show. It also shows how she teaches students to cook and do well in life. I think before that some time should have been spent in establishing that she is indeed a very good cook. Pobably spending some time to emphasise that should have helped in building up a story and then show initiation into cooking classes, book & shows.
The movie is elevated by superb performance from the lead cast of Huma and Sharib. They have good chemistry and the performance is natural, sincere and endearing.

What would viewers want to see in a story about an ordinary homemaker who became a celebrity chef?
Firstly, how did she do it?
Next, why her books and show were a big success?
This film is more about her relationship with her husband and the struggles between her different roles as homemaker, mother and wife. Her place as a pioneer Indian cook book author and TV chef is not even highlighted.
The movie gets elevated by the wonderful performances of the lead actors. Huma Qureshi plays her role very well. Sharib Hashmi is a master performer and plays his part with ease.
Music by Suhit Abhayankar, Nilotpal Bora and Rohan Vinayak, with an added performance from Rekha Bharadwaj, is soulful and melodic.
Notes to the film-makers
There's not much in the movie about Tarla Dalal that we already didn't know. But we get to know a lot about her supportive husband. At times one wonders whether it's his biopic.

Notes to the film-makers
- Both, Tarla Dalal and Huma Qureshi are beautiful. Then why give a set of false teeth to Huma?
- Food presentation? Where is it? Kindly stop payment to the food stylist or at least ask for a refund.

Worth watching. A light, easy going movie. After so long a family movie which can be enjoyed with whole family. Simple and perfectly directed. Women around the world can see it just for the inspiration and motivation and men can watch it to be the motivation. Some scenes had perfect comic timing. Actors did a wonderful job such that you can easily connect with them. No fomo no fancy dresses just a simple and basic middle class family will enter your living room through your screns and will leave an impression forever. Few dialogues are so catchy that you may recall it at some part of your life. I am inspired hope same for you.
Sameer lodaya.
The movie is highly misrepresentation as a biopic of legend TARLA DALAL.
I don't know how Mrs Dalal allowed to do a biopic where her art cooking is missing the movie emphasised more on her family and her relation with her husband at a time it was feeling whether it's her husband's biopic..the struggle she overcame to become such a big chef for what she was rewarded with padmashree was totally missing
The characterisation was very wrong as Mrs Dalal is a short heighten woman but here they have shown heightened character played by huma..biopic is made mainly to inspire but this was very slow and dull and did not represent any strong content of cooking and her struggle
Huma played her role very well along with Sharib who is master in playing soft and innocent roles
Sorry Mrs dalal I was expecting a lot as I grew up eating your recipes.

Tarla is a biographical drama film directed by piyush gupta.
Huma qureshi is playing the titular role but the more interesting character tends to be sharib hashmi's. Nalin dalal gets a more humane arc than the showstopper tarla. And that boils down to the acting performances of the two. Sharib hashmi is understated, very nuanced whereas huma qureshi tends to go overboard with her expressions. Her fake teeth, too don't help the case. What saves the range difference from shambolism is the chemistry between them. Though, no other character gets space in the film, but they manage to keep us engaged.
The writing is confused of sorts. It wants to make a doorway to freedom through the kitchen but never fully establishes it. There is no closure to the event that some society neighbours closed her tuition center, and what happened after. This half hearted writing harms the film. The dialogue writing is good. The cinematography is decent. The production design never succeeds to transport to the time era. It looks more like a contemporary piece than what actual tarla dalal used to dwell a world in.
The music is praiseworthy. The song by rekha bharadwaj touches the music loving instinct of the viewers.
