David Blyth, the director behind the cult classic DEATH WARMED UP and the high controversial WOUND is back with a new flick. This time he picks up a ghost story in the vein of Asian horror cinema. The movies starts slow but get's faster and faster till the hear beating final. The acting is great, the shock moment are intense and Blyth managed to get the story interesting and suspenseful. With GHOST BRIDE David Blyth gives us a unique masterpiece of a movie. Sure, not everybody will love the movie, but GHOST BRIDE is one of these kinds of movies how are worth to be discovered. GHOST BRIDE is with not doubt a future to be cult movie.
Contrary to the 9/10 score by another reviewer who seemed intent on blowing smoke up the director's rear (mainly because it probably was the director himself that wrote the review), this movie is a below par and tame horror and I use the term 'horror' very loosely. This is a movie that moves along slowly but is really non-scary and doesn't engage me at all when it does actually get going in places. The script is strange and illogical and the actors show their inexperience on quite a few occasions with some wooden performances reciting it. This movie could have been more if a better writer wrote the script and understood the premise of what a supernatural horror entails. To sum the Ghost Bride up I'd say it was slow, amateurish, poorly executed and lacking in any quality at all for the genre and audience it is supposed to be aimed at.
If you are an horror movie addict and searching for some horror movie to spend your night then this movie is OK. As it got some horror , mystery and thrill. But all these ingredients are at only reasonable level not good or exceptional at all. Acting , direction and even the tone of the movie is a bit dull. still a good time passer or i would say a time killer. And in case if you are new to horror movies or you are not an horror movie addict then you will definitely be shivering with fear many times during the movie. All the caste is non English apart from a couple of them . heroine seems fresh and acted quite well in the movie.
If there is a zero rating, I would have given it to this movie. It was so bad that I had to see how it was going to end..
When I was watching this, I couldn't help but think, "This must have been written by a Westerner who only know about all the clichés and stereotypes of the Chinese culture and tradition!!" and I was right. Even a HK B-grade movie felt more realistic!! There are so many irrational and nonsensical holes within the entire plot. Think a REAL Chinese or someone actually did his/her homework would have known and steer away from all those misconceptions.. Please google 'ghost bride' and read the Wiki entry. No one kills and people do get themselves a ghost bride/bridegroom and move on to get a REAL wife/husband in real life..
I had to post this to warn people how ridiculous the entire plot is and don't waste their time on such a piece of c**p..
