Ken Page, one of Broadway’s most familiar character actors who indelibly lent his voice to Tim Burton’s holiday film classic The Nightmare Before Christmas as the villainous Oogie Boogie, died Monday, September 30. He was 70.

His death was announced on social media by his friend Dorian Hannaway, who wrote that he “passed quietly and peacefully at his home.”

Born January 20, 1954, in St. Louis, Page was determined to pursue a career on the stage as early as high school, and received a full scholarship in musical theater at Fontbonne College in Clayton, Missouri. He began his professional career in the chorus of St. Louis’ Muny theater before making his Broadway debut in 1977 in the replacement cast for Cats as the Lion.

Mubi has acquired UK and Ireland rights to Bird, the Andrea Arnold feature that is getting its world premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival. Written and directed by Arnold, the pic stars Barry Keoghan, Franz Rogowski (Passages, Great Freedom), and newcomers Nykiya Adams and Jason Buda. The plot follows a 12-year-old girl, Bailey, who lives with her dad and brother in a squat in north Kent in southern England. As her dad has little time for his kids, Bailey seeks attention and adventure elsewhere. BBC Studios-owned House Productions made the film, which was shot in the UK around the Kent area. Tessa Ross, Juliette Howell and Lee Groombridge are the producers. Financiers include BBC Film, the BFI through National Lottery funding), Pinky Promise, FirstGen Content and Access Entertainment. Cornerstone is handling international sales and distribution, striking the deal with Mubi.

Netflix’s Black Mirror topped Nielsen’s latest U.S. ranking of streaming originals, while Paramount+’s Star Trek: Strange New Worlds made its debut on the weekly chart. (Paramount+ was not being tracked by Nielsen when Snw Season 1 came out.)

With the release of Season 6, Black Mirror for the week of June 12 amassed nearly 1.4 billion minutes viewed across 27 total episodes. That knocked Netflix’s Manifest down to No. 2, with 970 million minutes viewed across 62 episodes. Netflix’s Never Have I Ever in turn dipped to third (with 832 million minutes/40 episodes), followed by Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso (529 million minutes/34 episodes...

Netflix’s sci-fi anthology Black Mirror debuted at No. 1 on the streaming charts for the week of its sixth season premiere.

The series delivered 1.36 billion minutes of viewing time in the United States for the week of June 12-18, according to Nielsen’s rankings. Black Mirror displaced the previous week’s No. 1, Avatar: The Way of Water, which fell by 45 percent in viewing time but still cleared the billion-minute mark across Disney+ and Max, which share streaming rights.

James Cameron’s movie fell to third overall, with Swat (1.21 billion minutes) continuing its strong showing across three streamers: Netflix, Paramount+ and Hulu. The show has topped 1 billion minutes of viewing for four consecutive weeks. Netflix’s movie Extraction 2, starring Chris Hemsworth, also edged over a billion minutes with 1.02 billion for its opening week.

Among original series, Netflix’s Manifest (969 million minutes) and Never Have I Ever (832 million) slotted in behind Black Mirror.

The release of the supernatural/family drama’s Season 4B via Netflix resulted in 1.6 billion minutes viewed across 62 total episodes, for the week of June 5.

Arnold Schwarzenegger says “The Terminator” is no longer a fantasy given the current state of artificial intelligence. Speaking at a press event in Los Angeles (via People), the actor said James Cameron’s 1984 action classic has now become a reality. The film is set in a world where an artificially intelligent defense network known as Skynet has become self-aware and has conquered humanity.

“Today, everyone is frightened of it, of where this is gonna go,” Schwarzenegger said about AI. “And in this movie, in ‘Terminator,’ we talk about the machines becoming self-aware and they take over… Now over the course of decades, it has become a reality. So it’s not any more fantasy or kind of futuristic. It is here today. And so this is the extraordinary writing of Jim Cameron.”

Sylvester Stallone is getting a career-spanning documentary on Netflix.

The action icon will be profiled in the upcoming project titled Sly.

The announcement comes on the heels of Netflix rolling out a three-part documentary series about Stallone’s friend and former box office rival Arnold Schwarzenegger, titled Arnold.

The retrospective documentary will be directed by Thom Zimny (Springsteen on Broadway) and will be released in November.

Netflix is set to release “Sly,” a retrospective documentary about Oscar-nominated actor-writer-director-producer Sylvester Stallone, in November, the streamer announced on Thursday.

The documentary is directed by Thom Zimny (“Springsteen on Broadway”), and you can watch the first trailer for the doc in the video above.

“Do I have regrets? Hell yeah I have regrets,” Stallone says in the doc.

The film will capture the decades-long career of the Oscar-nominated actor-writer-director-producer Stallone, whose works span from the “Rocky” franchise to new Paramount+ reality series “The Family Stallone.”

With 1991’s James Cameron-written and -directed “Terminator 2: Judgement Day,” Arnold Schwarzenegger may have notched his highest-grossing feature to date and cemented himself as an action icon. But he still remembers feeling “suspicious” about something missing from the script.

He wanted to kill more people.

Not just kill more people — “massacre” them, he admitted at a “Terminator 2” screening hosted by the Academy Museum on Wednesday. “I was killing 68 people in the first one — the second one, I have to kill 150. We go up with the count and the massacre, and we cut their throats and kill them and shoot them and the cannon and this and that — run them over with the car. I said, ‘I’ve got to outdo Stallone!’ I’ve gotta be No. 1 in killing the amount of people on the screen.”

His thirst for blood was so intense, Schwarzenegger said, that Cameron had to talk him down.

His latest film, Extraction 2, debuted on June 16. In its first full week on the streamer, it was No. 1 on the English-language film list with 42.2M views. The action sequel now has over 85M views in the first 10 days since it premiered. 

Fans also revisited the first installment, which came in at No. 2 on the list with 13.8M views. According to Netflix, the Extraction franchise is the first film franchise to hold the top two spots for two weeks after recording 108.4M views since June 12.

Documentary film Take Care of Maya was third with 9.2M views and The Perfect Find, based on the novel by Tia Williams and starring Gabrielle Union and Keith Powers, was No. 4 with 7M views.

With 42.2 million views, his film “Extraction 2” was the No. 1 title on Netflix from June 19 to June 25, while its predecessor, the 2020 film “Extraction” took second place with 13.8 million views. This is the second week in a row that the Sam Hargrave-directed films have managed to become the streamer’s most popular titles.

On the TV side, Season 6 of “Black Mirror” jumped from second to first place in its first full week of availability. During the June 19-25 viewing window, an estimated 11.6 million people tuned in, up from 11.3 million the week before.

The release of Season 6 also caused a boost in viewership for Season 1 of “Black Mirror,” which made an appearance on the chart at No. 9 with 2.3 million viewers.

In its first full week of availability, the fourth and final season of “Never Have I Ever” has jumped to the No. 1 position on Netflix’s weekly viewership charts for June 12-18.

As of Tuesday, Netflix has begun ranking viewership by estimated number of viewers rather than hours viewed. The streamer calculates this by dividing the number of hours a project was viewed by its runtime. This puts “Never Have I Ever” Season 4 at 11.5 million views for the week.

Though the series’ position on the chart improved, views were actually down compared to last week, when it took second place with 15.5 million views in its first four days of availability.

The return of “Never Have I Ever” did also boost its previous seasons to the chart, with Season 1 grabbing the No. 8 position with 2.6 million views and Season 2 rounding out the bottom of the chart 2.3 million.

In The Perfect Find, Union plays a fashion editor who, after a public breakup and career implosion, starts working for her former rival Darcy Hill (Gina Torres) and catches the eye of a younger videographer (Keith Powers), who happens to be the boss’ son. “Fubar” has been renewed for Season 2 at Netflix. The announcement was made by star Arnold Schwarzenegger on Saturday at the Netflix Tudum event.

“Fubar” debuted its eight-episode first seasonon May 25, and follows a C.I.A. operative Luke Brunner (Schwarzenegger) who discovers a family secret that pulls him back into the field and delays his retirement plans.

Following the May premiere, “Fubar” opened with 88.94 million hours viewed in its first four days of availability.
