It is not awful to watch but the script and acting is not very good. They could have done a lot of better work in the script, there is no flow. Also the acting is not very good but I don't know if that is because of the script or the actors itself. The location is very beautiful though. Again:

The movie paces really, really fast the first 5 minutes with little to no character development. The characters feel shallow.
Some scènes are funny to watch and they give a laugh. But the cringe is high.
The acting feels off and is non convincing and the plot is very predictable. It sometime feels like they playback instead of act.
The grandma is kind of funny, als kind of annoying at the same time. Her voice reminds me of someone who could read fairytales at Efteling or Disneyland.
In the end, like usual, the main characters get a break though and it all ends well. Everybody is happy and living their best life.

In Love with Bali is a new romantic comedy directed by Johan Nijenhuis, director of In Love with Ibiza and In Love with Cuba. He has now directed a trilogy of In Love with... films.
After the death of her Indian grandmother, Jenny (Anouk Maas) convinces her sister and mother to go to Bali together. Here she hopes to learn more about her family background, which will help her find happiness in her family and love life.
With this new one in love with... Johan Nijenhuis makes another similar film, only this time in a different location: Bali. Here he plays a bit with the culture and customs of this place, but otherwise the film is also about characters who are trying to start a new relationship. Apart from the different place and culture, it remains somewhat of a standard romantic comedy.
By combining the cultural history elements of Bali and the three relationship-seeking characters, the film is a bit on the messy side. Because of the fame of the in love... films, you don't get so lost in the story, but you don't really get more interested compared to the other in love... films. Furthermore, the film is also full of clichés, which appear in many romantic comedies by Johan Nijenhuis.
The downside of this film is that the main character Jenny plays an influencer who tries to record everything in the right ways for more likes. This is done in an attempt at comedy, but her character just comes across as more annoying and insufferable.

I heard about this movie. I have watched it without any expectations. I have dutch indies heritage and I hoped it would have been a nice entertaining experience. I was so wrong, none of that. It was a waste of time. Both acting and plot were horrible. I continue to watch the movie till the end which was not easy. Such a shame, this could have been so much better...A children's movie would have been better. I try to come up with something positive but i could not find anything positive. I could not understand this movie scores a 6 out of 10. They even try to include the colonial situation from the dutch indies at the time, another big fail...
