A sweet, engaging and warmly humorous film

The spirit of Ozu inevitably comes up in Japanese family dramas, and there is a similar gentleness of pace and love of character expressed in the generational conflict of Keisuke Yoshida's My Little Sweet Pea. There is something more about the film however, about the individual circumstances of each of the characters that is itself uniquely and entertainingly Japanese. Mugiko, for example, is an anime fan who dreams of becoming a voice-over actor in a country where such a career can be a valid aspiration. If there is a similar character to Mugiko's brother earning a living working in a pachinko parlour and her mother working as a cleaner in a 'love hotel', deep down their aspirations and realities are universal. As are the family matters that lie at the heart of the film when Mugiko takes a journey to a remote country village (another very familiar device seen in many Japanese movies), to get back in touch with human feelings and discover the mother she never really knew. Using the same actress, Maki Horikita, for daughter and the flashbacks of her younger mother might seem an obvious device, but it does actually help to define the bond between them, revealing character, personality and life in what is a sweet, engaging and warmly humorous film.

    Surprisingly beautiful film

I visit this site and see that this film has an average 6.6 stars, and while that is not bad I cannot help but feel sorry for people who see a film like this and are unable to understand the beauty and meaning it holds.

There are not many films I rate ten stars. This film presents every element is it intended to present. Some people may not like some of the things that occur in this, but that is part of the point of the film.

This starts out slow, almost leaving the audience to wonder where it's going. Where it goes is slowly and subtly revealed as the story unfolds, and it touches the heart and soul of the viewer. This is one of the most touching and personal movies I have ever seen. Kudos to the writer, director and cast. This film is beautiful.

Overall, this movie is considered both happy and fun for the whole family. There are also thoughts and mottos that inspire us.

This movie teaches us that If we have a family Should take care and pay attention on a regular basis, There is no parent or relative who does not love us as much as we ourselves. Because the family ties cannot be broken.

I hope everyone who watched this movie will remember and take these ideas as lessons and apply them in their daily life.

    Enjoy your family

Life is full of ups and downs, family matters and such, never stop loving them because they won't stop loving you, even if it's not apparent.

Sweet movie that shows parenting love that goes unappreciated by the new generation.
