Washington, D. C. in 1861. The Civil War is at hand and the city is preparing for disaster. America is a country divided in two. An untested President Lincoln strives to make the nation's capital the political center of the Union, but finds he is surrounded by Southern sympathies and under constant threat of attack. See how this once sleepy little town became the metropolis we know today. A city shaped in marble, a symbol of American freedom and a memorial to those who fought tooth and nail to preserve it.

Marathoning Paramount's Smithsonian Channel with several interesting documentaries, including this one about the growth of the US Capital during the Lincoln administration (If not the best, certainly among the top 10 best US presidents) and the Confederate war, very good documentary. ..
