Ten points for Elsbeth being Elsbeth. Minus two for the male cops acting like cartoons. Makes more sense after the last conversation with her boss in Chicago.
I adore the Elsbeth character from The Good Wife. Have not watched The Good Fight, other than the first episode, probably because I'm still hurting from the last episode of TGW. I didn't want Peter or Alicia to be so punished by their choices. And Diane blaming Alicia for choosing Peter over Kurt's reputation. What other choice did she have?
Anyhoo, Elsbeth always finds the essential evidence in her cases. She is brilliant. I'm still concerned about what appeared to be a psychotic break in the TGW episode in which she was having visions. That was never addressed. I hope this new series will provide more insight into the lead's personality. I want her character to be more than a gimmick to get laughs.

This show is 'dumb funny' in the best possible way. Elsbeth is a colorful, intriguing character. Watching Elsbeth is like watching a great salesperson give their pitch; you know where it's going, but it's so entertaining that you can't stop watching. Carrie Preston's delivery is so detailed, and the costume desires really know how to make her stand out. This show makes me think of a cross between Columbo and Mary Tyler Moore, but unfortunately it seems like they ran out of budget and had to use soundbites of crappy canned porno music. This would be a great show, if only they would hire some quality composers and invest just a little bit in their sound department.
My husband and I recently started rewatching Columbo. I knew I loved Elsbeth in "The Good Wife," but I didn't know why. Watching this first episode it dawned on it, that she's just like Columbo: people write her off as ridiculous, clumsy or stupid, but really she's very savvy and keeps asking questions until she has her answers! I'm waiting to hear her say, "Oh just one more thing."
Great writing, storyline and a wonderful job by Carrie Preston and friends! I think Peter Falk himself would applaud!
As for the idea she has ASD, I don't know where that came from. Did she state she was diagnosed on one of the other shows? I see where someone might think that, but I rather think her quirks are more an act to disarm her suspect.

Elsbeth was an interesting character on The Good Wife - a high powered lawyer who you underestimated because she seemed goofy and also naive. She caught details, however, that others missed. Is her character a bit unbelievable and a bit annoying? Yes, but she's also likable.
More importantly I miss shows like The Good Wife- an ongoing storyline with recurring characters along with a.mystery that is wrapped up in one episode.
At the end of a long workday, I don't want to come home and watch shows that are dark, dystopian, or intense - just a good plot that is a distraction from daily life. If the first episode of Elsbeth is an indication of what is to come, then we have a winner.
I look forward to seeing more of Elsbeth and her quirkiness.

So I may be a little biased because I really love this character from her previous series on The Good Wife. That being said I thought this was an amazing pilot to kick off a new series with a really unique and already fleshed out character. That is probably an advantage compared to most new series. I enjoy looking to see what this spin-off has to offer. The pilot offered some really good actors is a counterpart in the introductory mystery. I liked the fact that it continues to have some intrigue related to a character, played by an actor I also really like, that might involve a theme that seems to underline this series; namely, that she doesn't work as a defense lawyer anymore but is on the other side.
