A Talking Heads concert film that isn't Stop Making Sense is hard to talk about without mentioning Stop Making Sense, but such is life. And Live in Rome is not Stop Making Sense, but at least it sounds pretty good. I was mostly interested because the synopsis (do concert movies have synopses, or something else? I dunno) said this was recorded shortly after Remain in Light came out, and that album's great. But its tracks have never quite sounded right to me when played live, and though they still sound good, it's just always a little off.
But it's Talking Heads, and hearing these songs I've heard dozens of times be slightly different is interesting, if not always entirely satisfying. And this was a TV movie or released on TV, I believe, so the presentation isn't as exciting as that other Talking Heads concert movie I've already talked about enough. But the music's good. And the fact that there are other concerts performed by this band, when they were still intact, that are documented? Nothing wrong with that, either.
