'Tin Soldier' Trailer Teases Explosive Action With Jamie Foxx, Robert De Niro & Scott Eastwood
Image
Amazon has unleashed the explosive first trailer for their next action thriller. Boasting an impressive cast that includes Robert De Niro, Scott Eastwood, John Leguizamo, Joey Bicicchi, and Rita Ora, with Jamie Foxx gearing up to play the villain, the trailer, which is available to view below, showcases explosive action and an intriguing premise.

Overall, it's an impressive cast for a movie that's seemingly heading straight to Video on Demand (VOD) in international markets, and will likely receive the same release treatment in the U.S. Titled Tin Soldier, the action thriller focuses on a group called The Bokushi, an organization for U.S. combat veterans who are seeking a new purpose and a path forward. However, when it becomes apparent that the leader of the Bokushi, led by Jamie Foxx's character Lazarus, has greater ambitions for the army he's gathering, which leads the government to recruit a former member,...

Jamie Foxx, Robert De Niro, and Scott Eastwood see combat and cult-like figures unleash hell in Brad Furman’s Tin Soldier trailer
Image
What do you get when you put Scott Eastman, Jamie Foxx, and Robert De Niro in a heated trifecta between the government, highly-trained combat veterans, and a cult-like movement that could spell disaster for innocents? The Brad Furman action thriller Tin Soldier, of course! Today, Samuel Goldwyn Films and Amazon MGM Studios proudly present an explosive trailer for Tin Soldier, bringing high stakes, bad attitudes, and cool hair to a genre that never quits.

Scripted by Furman and Jess Fuerst, the film has the following synopsis: The Bokushi (Foxx) preaches to hundreds of veterans who have been drawn to the promise of protection and purpose under him. Surrounded by his devout, military-trained followers, he has built an impenetrable fortress and amassed an arsenal of weapons. After several failed infiltration attempts, the government — in the form of military operative Emmanuel Ashburn (De Niro) — recruits Nash Cavanaugh (Eastwood), an ex-Special Forces asset,...

‘King Of The Hill’ Casts Toby Huss As Voice Of Dale Gribble
Image
Toby Huss has been tapped to voice the conspiracy-minded Dale Gribble in King of the Hill‘s upcoming Season 14 revival.

He takes over the role voiced by the late Johnny Hardwick, who portrayed the character in the show’s original 13-year run, appearing in 257 of 258 episodes. Hardwick died in 2023. Due to the long lead time on animated shows, he had completed six episodes before he passed, and will be credited as a series regular on those episodes until they have aired and Huss takes over the role. Hardwick had been with the Emmy-winning animated series since its debut in 1997 through its final episode on Fox in 2010. He also served as a writer and a story editor during his run on the show.

The show notes Dale Gribble is an unsuccessful exterminator and massive conspiracy theorist who is one of Hank Hill’s long-time friends. In the revival, he remains an...

Jamie Foxx & Robert De Niro 'Tin Soldier' Secures U.S. Distributor
Image
Tin Soldier is one step closer to marching onto screens. The previously in-limbo action-thriller has received a long-awaited update, three years after production on the movie got underway. Samuel Goldwyn Films has snagged the North American distribution rights to the film, per Deadline, following hot on the heels of another high-profile distribution deal the company has secured in recent months. The highly anticipated Tin Solider, which stars big names like Jamie Foxx, Robert De Niro, and Scott Eastwood, is expected to debut sometime this year, so hopefully a release date won't be far behind now that it has officially been picked up.

Eastwood asserted in January of this year that Tin Soldier would be getting a release, but, at that point in time, no one had acquired the rights. He also teased his role in the film by explaining where he fits into the story, telling MovieWeb that other characters...

The project features a cast that includes Jim Cummings, Jeremy Holm, Taylor Misiak, Grace Van Dien, and newcomer Stella Marcus. Produced by Mothership Motion Pictures, the film reunites the creative team behind indie titles Funeral Kings and 13 Cameras, including producers Michael J. We've seen him in some of the fun Fast & Furious flicks and assorted war films, like the excellent Fury. Future projects on the horizon include another war film, the highly anticipated Tin Soldier, which also stars big names like Robert De Niro, Jamie Foxx, Rita Ora, John Leguizamo, Shamier Anderson, and more. Filming took place mainly in Greece two years ago, but there hasn't been any news about the movie until now. The Infiltrator Cast & Real-Life Character Guide
Image
Bryan Cranston's 2016 true crime drama film The Infiltrator features an elaborate cast based on real-life characters. Directed by Brad Furman and written by his mother Ellen Furman, The Infiltrator is based on the book of the same name by U.S. Customs Special Agent Robert Mazur, who Cranston plays in the film. Despite receiving mostly positive reviews upon its July 2016 theatrical release, The Infiltrator grossed $22 million at the global box office against an estimated budget of between $28 and $47 million. It ranks number 8 on Netflix's U.S. Top 10 Movies list at the time of writing.

While not typically considered among Bryan Cranston's best movies, The Infiltrator earned a Rotten Tomatoes critic score of 72%. The narrative follows a dedicated agent who dives into the grimy underworld of money laundering and blurs the line between duty and deception. Cranston's Robert Mazur goes undercover as a corrupt businessman named Bob Musella who...

Johnny Depp's Eight Best Roles, Ranked
Image
For many, watching Johnny Depp movies has become a fraught experience. Once touted as a quirky character actor with matinée idol good looks, Depp became an alt-sweetheart of outsiders and Goths everywhere, frequently taking on "weirdo" roles. He worked with strange filmmakers like John Waters and, most often, Tim Burton, mostly to strip away the pressures of being a Hollywood pretty-boy, determined to prove himself as a performer who prefers the fringe.

He was also seen, for many years, as a Hollywood "bad boy," and he struggled with alcoholism and drug-fueled violent outbursts. In 1989, he was arrested in Vancouver for getting violent with a security guard. In 1994, he was arrested again for trashing a hotel room and had to pay over $9,000 in damages. He was arrested once more in 1999 for fighting with paparazzi. In 2012, Depp's security guards were sued by an Irvine medical professor for roughing her up and handcuffing her.

Every summer, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences invites a deluge of new members to join its ranks. Shirley MacLaine Film Descends Into Chaos as Director Feuds With Financier and Crew Goes Unpaid
Shirley MacLaine
The first couple times, he said no.

But like most people in the entertainment industry, Andy Zolot wasn’t working much. So when the offer came around again to work on an independent film starring Shirley MacLaine, he agreed.

“F*ck it,” he said. “It’s Shirley MacLaine. And I need the check.”

The film — “People Not Places” — offers a case study in the desperate state of the business.

The budget was probably too low, but Zolot hoped the production could pull off something special. He did not know how bad it would get once he and a couple dozen other crew members showed up for pre-production in March in Atlantic City, N.J.

The director, Brad Furman, came in late, blew off meetings, screamed at people and stalled on cost-reducing cuts to the script, according to five other crew members, many of whom asked not to be identified to avoid being sued.

Road House Star Talks Conor McGregor Fight and New Remake
Image
Columbus underwent intense training to manifest his action star destiny, landing a leading role in "Road House." Working with Mma fighter Conor McGregor on-screen was a respectful and fluid experience filled with love and synergy. Despite controversy over its streaming release, Columbus believes "Road House" will be a global hit, paying homage to the original.

Watching a young actor rise to prominence can be a beautiful thing. From getting their start with bit parts here and there, to finally catching their big break, which leads to meatier roles. Dominique Columbus is one of those actors on the way up, and while audiences might not recognize the name, keen-eyed viewers will recognize his face from the Showtime original series, Ray Donovan, where he starred alongside Liev Schreiber from 2016-2017, and 2018’s City of Lies, where he shared the screen with Johnny Depp.

Image
The Johnny Depp film “Jeanne du Barry” from director and star (and producer and co-writer) Maïwenn will open in U.S. theaters on May 2 as part of a special engagement via Fathom Events and distributor Vertical.

The film will open exclusively in more than 500 U.S. theaters on May 2, 2024, with the possibility that the film could run longer than its “limited” engagement if it’s a success. The first big theatrical release of May 2024 is 20th Century’s “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” which will command many more screens beginning May 10.

“Jeanne du Barry” was the opening night film at last year’s Cannes Film Festival and was a modest box office hit, grossing $13 million outside of the states. Vertical picked it up last June but has yet to release it here.

With more than 500 screens in tow, the movie will be the widest opening for Depp in the U.

The Only Major Actors Still Alive From Murder, She Wrote
Image
For 12 seasons, "Murder, She Wrote" was the definitive cozy murder mystery show. Set in the small and charming yet dead-body-filled fictional town of Cabot Cove, Maine, the show wormed its way into the hearts of procedural fans everywhere with its familiar structure and unlikely hero -- middle-aged mystery writer Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury). While the actor behind the beloved amateur sleuth passed away in 2022, "Murder, She Wrote" lives on, both in the form of much-watched reruns and in an upcoming movie adaptation.

Little is known about the new version of "Murder, She Wrote" at this point, but screenwriters Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo have said that the story will relate back to Cabot Cove and Jessica in some capacity. When it comes to potential cameos from old cast members, the pool is unfortunately limited, as several of the series' lead actors have passed away in the decades since the show ended.

‘Animal’ Review: A Darkly Intriguing Look at the Underbelly of Holiday Resorts
Image
For those fortunate enough to grab their own little piece of paradise during summer vacation, the memories can seem unforgettable. But there’s another side to those sunny holidays that are rarely posted on Instagram, involving the many hotel workers who labor in the background to make everything appear perfect, at least on the surface.

Greek writer-director Sofia Exarchou’s intriguing second feature, Animal, focuses on a specific group of such workers: the animateurs whose job is to entertain guests both day and night, leading seniors in a game of bingo or a group singalong, or performing Showgirls-style dance numbers marked by an excessive level of kitsch.

Paul Verhoeven’s glitter-and-guts depiction of Las Vegas definitely comes to mind in this story of a dancer, Kalia (the excellent Dimitra Vlagopoulou), who choreographs numbers and trains new recruits at a Greek resort filled with foreign tourists. She constantly reminds her team to smile at the guests,...

What Johnny Depp's New Movie Success Means For His Hollywood Comeback
Image
Jeanne du Barry has fans and critics wondering if the film's success could mean a Hollywood comeback for Johnny Depp. Depp’s legacy stretches from the 90s with his successful Tim Burton collaborations to the 2000s when the cultural icon that is Jack Sparrow was born. However, in the late 2010s, with the Amber Heard controversy and a long string of blockbuster failures, it seemed that Johnny Depp’s legacy was in murky waters. But with the recent court trial reveals and his down-to-earth personality, Johnny Depp is back in the public’s hearts and minds.

Jeanne du Barry may not seem like a typical Johnny Depp flick. For one, Johnny Depp isn’t the star of the film, nor is he playing a wacky character. Instead, Jeanne du Barry is a low-key foreign film that Depp’s first time acting in French. The film follows the life of Jeanne du Barry,...

Cannes Rolls Out Red Carpet for Johnny Depp, but Will Audiences Be as Welcoming?
Image
Johnny Depp’s once white-hot career has flamed out in the wake of his many scandals, but the controversial actor has every reason to expect a movie star welcome when he hits Cannes on Tuesday for the premiere of “Jeanne du Barry.” The costume drama is Depp’s first leading role in three years, a period of time in which the star has mostly made headlines for his ongoing legal battles with ex-wife Amber Heard.

But through that tempestuous period, one that saw Depp fired from high-profile projects like the “Harry Potter” spinoff franchise “Fantastic Beasts,” Europe has remained a port in the storm. He has continued to be celebrated at film festivals throughout the continent with audiences loyally showing up to see the movies he has managed to make in between tabloid appearances. For its part, Cannes has pushed back at suggestions that it shouldn’t be offering Depp...

Johnny Depp is trying to put all his legal drama behind him. On July 11, the Pirates of the Caribbean star, 59, settled a lawsuit stemming from an alleged assault involving a crew member on the set of his 2018 crime thriller, City of Lies. According to court documents obtained by E! News, Depp and Gregg "Rocky" Brooks—who worked as a location manager on the film—reached a settlement before they were scheduled to go to a civil trial on July 25. Judge Holly J. Fujie agreed to put off the impending trial until Jan. 5, 2023. In 2017, Brooks alleged in court documents, obtained by E! News at the time, that Depp became irate when he told him that filming for City of...

Johnny Depp isn’t interested in testing his luck with another jury. Fresh off his victory in the televised trial that showcased his bruising defamation battle with ex-wife Amber Heard, the actor reached a last-minute deal to avoid a civil trial in Los Angeles over claims he punched a location manager on the set of City of Lies in 2017, a Monday court filing reveals.

The underlying lawsuit brought by Gregg “Rocky” Brooks was scheduled to begin trial in Los Angeles County Superior Court on July 25 after years of delay. It...

Johnny Depp Settles Assault Lawsuit With ‘City of Lies’ Crew Member
Image
Johnny Depp will not be making an encore appearance in court later this month, as his attorneys have reached a settlement with a “City of Lies” crew member who alleged the actor punched him on set in 2017.

Depp had been scheduled to go to a civil trial in Los Angeles on July 25, less than two months after winning his defamation battle in a Virginia courtroom against ex-wife Amber Heard.

Gregg “Rocky” Brooks, a location manager, sued Depp in 2018, alleging that Depp became angry after Brooks informed him they had to stop filming for the night.

According to the suit, the production had a permit to shoot at the Barclay Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, but the permit expired at 10 p.m. Depp wanted to go later to get a longer version of a scene, and Brooks was able to get two extensions. But at 11 p.m., he was told he...

Johnny Depp Reaches Settlement in ‘City of Lies’ Assault Lawsuit

Johnny Depp’s “City of Lies” assault case reached a settlement Monday ahead of its scheduled trial start date.

The case, which was brought forth by “City of Lies” location manager Gregg “Rocky” Brooks, was scheduled to begin later this month. In 2018, Brooks filed a lawsuit accusing Depp of assault and battery on the “City of Lies” set in April 2017. Depp has denied the accusations.

According to the suit, Brooks claimed that Depp verbally and physically assaulted him during filming, including punching Brooks twice in the ribs, after Brooks was asked by a producer to extend the hours of a filming permit to accommodate Depp, who wanted to film two friends in an extended scene.

Johnny Depp Reaches Settlement In ‘City Of Lies’ Assault Case Ahead Of LA Trial Start
Image
Johnny Depp may find himself facing off again with Amber Heard in Virginia in the ex-couple’s big-bucks defamation battle, but he seems to have put an end to the assault and battery case about to go to trial in the City of Angels.

Two weeks to the day before the scheduled start of the trial brought against Depp by former City of Lies location manager Gregg “Rocky” Brooks in 2018, the parties have come to a deal, it was revealed Monday. In a filing in Los Angeles Superior Court, Brooks’ lawyer Arbella Azizian said a settlement had been reached, kind of.

No terms were made public, and the whole shabang could still be scuttled as can always happen up to the last minute in these things. However, after weeks of behind-the-scenes talks between the sides, it looks like Depp is paying off Brooks to go away and have another lawsuit...

Johnny Depp’s Hollywood Comeback? It’ll Take More Than His Fans
Johnny Depp at an event for Waiting for the Barbarians (2019)
In this edition of Career Watch, IndieWire’s occasional vocational checkup of actors and directors and those who hope to get there, we take on Johnny Depp.

As a maligned victim of slander, the 58-year-old’s most recent performance played well with the trial jury as well as the court of public opinion. He won 10 million in compensatory damages and 350,000 in punitive damages against his ex-wife Amber Heard, who wrote in a 2018 Washington Post op-ed a year after their divorce that she was a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” The jury ruled that she failed to prove that he physically abused her.

Since then, Depp has discovered TikTok and gratefully calls his fans his “employers,” but of course they don’t write the checks. Those who do are less likely to be swayed by viral social memes — or at least, as Sony recently learned through the spectacular failure of its “Morbius” re-release,...

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Star Jennifer Connelly on Love Scenes With Tom Cruise and Learning to Tend Bar
Image
Despite the optics of shirtless volleyball games and locker room sparring, you can’t make a “Top Gun” movie without a strong and emotionally centered woman. For “Top Gun: Maverick,” a sequel 36 years in the making, the successor to the original film’s Kelly McGillis is Jennifer Connelly. She plays Penny Benjamin, a character referenced in the first film, and love interest to Tom Cruise’s Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. Playing a single mom who owns an Air Force watering hole, Connelly brings new dimensions to an ’80s classic.

It’s hard to believe you haven’t worked with Tom Cruise before.

I had never even met Tom Cruise before. He’s so exceptional. Spending time with him, you understand how someone has been such a movie star for so many years. It was clear to me what the franchise means to him, so I felt beholden to him, [producer] Jerry Bruckheimer...

Amber Heard Op-Ed Got Johnny Depp ‘Canceled,’ Hollywood Dealmaker Tells Court
Johnny Depp at an event for Waiting for the Barbarians (2019)
Longtime entertainment attorney Richard Edward Marks was called to the stand Monday in Johnny Depp’s defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard and said the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor became radioactive because companies want “added value not negativity” from talent.

Marks, who said he has nearly 50 years of experience and has negotiated numerous deals, was hired by Depp’s legal team to look at the impact Heard’s 2018 Washington Post op-ed had on her ex-husband’s “life and reputation.”

“My general opinion is the op-ed damaged Mr. Depp, created a cancel situation if you will, harmed his reputation and his ability to get work in the Hollywood industry,” Marks told a Fairfax, Virginia, courtroom.

The Los Angeles-based attorney said he read a “voluminous” amount of files, transcripts from depositions, and news articles to familiarize himself with the case. He noted that companies and studios consider a performer’s reputation,...

Johnny Depp Lost 22.5 Million ‘Pirates’ 6 Deal After Amber Heard’s Op-Ed, Talent Manager Testifies
Johnny Depp at an event for Waiting for the Barbarians (2019)
Talent manager Jack Whigham testified Monday in Johnny Depp’s defamation trial against his ex-wife, Amber Heard, saying the impact of the Washington Post op-ed Heard wrote was “catastrophic” for the actor’s career.

Whigham spoke remotely via video from Los Angeles, and said in 2017 Depp had a very busy filming schedule. That year the actor worked on “City of Lies,” “Murder on the Orient Express,” “Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald,” and independent film “The Professor,” earning him 35 million.

Whigham, who described himself as an attorney and manager, said he also negotiated Depp’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” 6 deal in 2017, which totaled 22.5 million. But in 2019, it became clear that Disney had decided to “go in a different direction.”

In 2018, Depp filmed “Waiting for the Barbarians” for 1 million. In 2019, Whigham negotiated a 3 million deal for Depp to film “Minimata.” Whigham told the court the movie was supposed to start filming in January.

Johnny Depp Was to Receive 22.5 Million for ‘Pirates 6,’ Agent Says
Image
Johnny Depp’s agent testified on Monday that Depp was to receive 22.5 million to star in the sixth “Pirates of the Caribbean” film, but Disney decided to go “in a different direction” after Amber Heard published an op-ed reviving her domestic abuse allegations.

Jack Whigham, who represented Depp at Creative Artists Agency and later at Range Media Partners, testified that the December 2018 piece in the Washington Post had a “catastrophic” impact on Depp’s career.

“After the op-ed it was impossible to get him a studio film,” Whigham testified.

Depp is suing Heard for 50 million, alleging that she destroyed his career with false allegations of domestic violence. The trial in Fairfax, Va., entered its fourth week on Monday, as Depp’s team continued to call witnesses to support his claims.

Heard’s side has yet to begin offering evidence, and she is expected to tell her own side of the story later in the trial.

Image
Updated, 12:59 Pm: Johnny Depp lost any chance at staying in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise because of domestic violence allegations by Amber Heard, the actor’s former CAA agent testified today at the 50 million defamation trial.

How To Watch The Johnny Depp-Amber Heard Trial: Livestream And Schedule

“My opinion is it was related to the accusations that Amber has made,” Christian Carino told the Virginia courtroom Wednesday in a pre-recorded video deposition. Admitting he hadn’t actually spoken to anyone at Pirates distributor Disney except EP Jerry Bruckheimer, the CAA agent said he based his take on “conversations with colleagues and studios executives … internal and external.”

“It is something within the industry that is understood,” Carino emphasized as to Depp’s loss of the lucrative Pirates gig because of the long-festering abuse claims. Under cross examination, Heard’s lawyer Elaine Bredehoft made a distinct point of clarifying that...
