CÉSAR nomination for Tahar RAHIM as Charles AZNAVOUR

Biopics about artists are usually not easy to achieve. Rarely does a film succeed in being truly convincing. This is also the case with the film about the life of Charles Aznavor (1924-2018), and yet the film is certainly worth seeing. In my childhood in the 1980s, Charles Aznavour was omnipresent, but less as a singer than as a celebrity (1977 appearance in The Muppet Show!) / actor (The Tin Drum, 1979) / quasi-statesman (earthquake in his native Armenia in 1988). Even in the 1980s, his music sounded like it belonged to a bygone era. Great as a musical classic, but also somehow out of step with the fabric of (then) modern times. The film reflects this impression in its portrayal of Aznavour's difficult career beginning. Tahar RAHIM plays this magnificently and was quite rightly rewarded with a CÉSAR nomination in 2025. As an artist, Aznavour was ahead of his time and, at the same time, a late-born innovator of French chanson. This contradiction made him a true great, but also means that his music is not easily consumed but must be truly conquered. The best way to access him is to be in Paris yourself.

A nice movie about a grandiose figure of French and world culture

A nice movie about a grandiose figure of French and world culture.

However, the taste after watching is very sweet. Such an aftertaste, as after you took sugar from a sugar bowl with a big spoon and put it in your mouth as a child. There is not enough disclosure of dramatic and tragic moments of the hero's life, which happen in the life of each of us. Even being under occupation during WWII was shown quite easily and naturally, with the exception of a couple of scenes.

Even if you are not a fan of Aznavour's work and songs, the film is recommended for viewing to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Europe during the almost whole 20th century!

A Perfect Biopic for all the fans

Honestly I know a little bit the old singer " Charles Aznavour " cause in france in my country it's a legend but I Donnie completely his background well... I know the all essentiels informations about him thanks to this movie and his story it's very passionate thanks to this nice biopic !!!!

First to all rules from a good biopic was respect ! This movie it's very a tribute for him-self and his fans and in the same time explain his story. For me on these points the movie it's succeed !!! And the script it's very passionate you know a lot about him especially when you don't know his story like me ... and you feel not boring during the process of script even if at times it's a little less gripping but for me the story telling it's succeed !!!!

The performance from the main character it's crazy he played very well and same thing for the rest of the cast !!!

The director makes a good job too, you felt very in old times from the set background, the colors using in the shoot's....

And the rest of works from people who work in shadows, the crew thanks to them, The costumes were really well done too !!!

This movie it's very a good movie and biopic for all fans who loves Charles Aznavour and people like me who doesn't know before his story and try to get into...

Not masterpiece biopic but a very good one, as said this movie its completely a Tribute !!!!

    Great musical

Great movie, well made, the story is very well presented and the cast is fantastic, it was a really emotional movie.

The story shows the life of a famous composer, singer, musician Charles Aznavour. There was a bit of everything, from his family life, his relations with famous singers and composers to his personal career going all the way to New York.

I was very impressed with the cinematic elements of the film, the angles, the colours, the effects, the director definitely knew what he was doing.

I would like to recommend this movie to everyone who likes the french "chanson" and the french culture!

    Bon lecture!

    Beautiful and moving

To be honest, I did not really know what to expect from this movie. Of course I have heard from Charles Aznavour and know a bit about his background, but his songs sometimes seemed too theatrical. So, unbiassed, I went to see the movie. It was absolutely beautiful, rich in details, very close attention to different time frames during which the movie was set (e.g. The clothing) and the acting simply is very good. Now understanding the often personal background to Aznavour's songs, I came to appreciate them even more. The end was chosen carefully (no spoiler!) and moved me - together with most of the audience - to tears. Go see it, it is a gem!
