A lot of children’s stories and beloved characters from children’s stories have been getting the horror treatment lately. Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, Popeye the Sailor Man, Bambi, Peter Pan, and more have all become bloodthirsty maniacs. A few months ago, we heard that director Bradley Stryker was about to go into production on a horror film called Aladdin: The Monkey’s Paw – and now, our friends at Bloody Disgusting have learned that two more Aladdin horror films, completely separate from Stryker’s project, are in the works! Writer/director Brett Bentman is gearing up to tell a two-part horror story with the films Aladdin and Aladdin’s Revenge, which have scream queen Devanny Pinn on board to star in them!
Aladdin and Aladdin’s Revenge will be filming back-to-back, with production scheduled to begin in Oklahoma this month. They’re aiming for 2026 release dates. Coming our way from B22 Films,...

We’ve been waiting years for director Marcel Walz’s Pretty Boy, a follow-up to his 2019 “stylish, dreamy slasher” Blind (watch it Here, read my review at This Link) – and now, finally, we know exactly when it’s going to make its way out into the world, as Lionsgate has announced that they’re giving Pretty Boy a VOD release on May 27th! The trailer can be seen in the embed above.

Expect disco lights, glitter, a killer soundtrack, and lots and lots of gore! Here’s the synopsis: Suffering from blindness after a botched laser surgery, Hollywood actress Faye is abducted...

The Bloody Disgusting-powered Screambox is home to a variety of unique horror content, from originals and exclusives to cult classics and documentaries. With such a rapidly-growing library, there are many hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
Here are five recommendations you can stream on Screambox right now.
Evil Dead Trap
Mix up your January Giallo viewing with Evil Dead Trap. Although its title invokes Evil Dead – and there’s a bit of Sam Raimi-esque kineticism in the camerawork – the 1988 Japanese film shares more in common with the lurid Italian thrillers: a mysterious killer, elaborate murder set pieces, gruesome violence, stylish cinematography, a dreamlike atmosphere, and an infectious synth score.
Upon receiving a graphic snuff film, a late-night TV host (Miyuki Ono) rallies a small production crew to investigate its origins at an abandoned military base. The story plays out in a manner that could be considered a slasher, but...

Popeye The Slayer Man: "Popeye the Slayer Man, a new horror feature exploring an alternate backstory for the legendary sailor, will be coming early 2025. The first trailer, stills, and teaser art have been released.
The film concerns a group of friends who sneak into an abandoned spinach canning factory to film a documentary on the legend of the “Sailor Man,” who is said to haunt the factory and local docks.
“We can’t wait for audiences to get a load of this gory and scary version of Popeye,” says producer Jeff Miller. “We went old-school and focused on using real practical effects, and not relying on CG for the gore. We’re talking with very enthusiastic and interested buyers now.”
Popeye the Slayer Man stars Sean Michael Conway, Elena Juliano, Mabel Thomas, Marie-Louise Boisnier, Jeff Thomas, and Steven McCormack, along with “scream queens” Angela Relucio and Sarah Nicklin. Jason Stephens plays the title role.

Last week, we shared a first look at some promo stills for a new Popeye horror movie from ITN Studios. Then, we brought you the first trailer for a completely separate project from Alpeke Entertainment called Shiver Me Timbers.
We mistakenly assumed these movies were one and the same, and we now have word on a third Popeye slasher flick from Salem House Films, Millman Productions, Ron Lee Productions, and Otsego Media titled Popeye the Slayer Man.
Directed by Robert Michael Ryan from a script by John Doolan, the movie focuses on “a group of friends who sneak into an abandoned spinach canning factory to film a documentary on the legend of the Sailor Man, who is said to haunt the factory and local docks.”

First there was Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. Then came news of Screamboat, another horror comedy based on a beloved cartoon character that recently entered the public domain, in this case the version of Mickey Mouse seen in Steamboat Willie. Now, get ready for the latest effort, Popeye the Slayer Man, a grisly take on the spinach-chewing, big-forearmed sailor who rose to popularity in the 1930s with a series of cartoons by Max Fleischer.
The film's official synopsis reads: "A curious group of friends sneak into an abandoned spinach canning factory to film a documentary on the legend of the "Sailor Man," who is said to haunt the factory and local docks." Naturally, the group of friends meets the legendary Popeye, here re-imagined as a rage-filled slasher killer, and are offed by the Slayer Man in overly violent fashion. Fans of gore will definitely be pleased by the film's newly released Red Band trailer.

Operation Blood Hunt is the film we wanted after Dog Soldiers showed us all that werewolves and soldiers could be a great combination. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much in the way of followup at the time, the promised sequel never happened and anyone who saw Werewolves of the Third Reich would probably rather forget it. So we’ve had to wait until now for Brandon Slagle to take the standard war movie plot of an odd assortment of fighters sent on a mission behind enemy lines and some werewolves to serve as the villains. And when it works, Operation Blood Hunt is a lot of fun, unfortunately, it doesn’t always work.

12 to Midnight stars Charles Bronson lookalike Robert Bronzi and a title that sounds like Bronson’s film 10 to Midnight. The film even opens with Detective Toth (Robert Bronzi) walking in on, and bloodily dispatching, a couple of armed robbers who are standing between him and his beer. “You look familiar,” the shaken cashier tells him. “I get that a lot”. But, more importantly, it has something Bronson never had to deal with, a werewolf.
Unfortunately for Toth, he was off duty and already reeking of booze at the time of the incident, so instead of a commendation, he gets suspended by Captain Rhodes. He tells him to get his shit together so he won’t have to make it permanent,...

Actress-turned-filmmaker Devanny Pinn makes her directorial debut with The Black Mass, one of my favorite horror films of the year.
This gruesome and nasty slasher calls to mind serial killer thrillers of the past, including John McNaughton’s masterful Henry, and is now streaming on Screambox.
A true-crime thriller based on events in Florida during the winter of 1978, it unfolds over 24 hours and centers on a serial killer in the lead-up to his ultimate, deranged killing spree.
“Presenting a harrowing and unsettling portrayal of the twisted mind of a notorious murderer, Pinn also explores the devastating consequences of his violent actions on the victims and survivors alike,” FrightFest wrote out of its International Premiere.
Jeremy London (Mallrats) co-stars alongside genre veterans Lisa Wilcox (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4), Susan Lanier (The Hills Have Eyes), Lew Temple (The Devil’s Rejects), Eileen Dietz (The Exorcist), Nicky Whelan (Halloween II), and Kathleen Kinmont...

We have an extremely exciting July lined up for Screambox users looking for some horror fireworks.
Highlights include the rarely seen Walking After Midnight: The Making of Survival of the Dead, a full-length film documenting the making of George A Romero’s zombie classic, as well as the ultra gory, must-see serial killer slasher The Black Mass, and religious anthology Body Parts.
The month is jam-packed with quality films, such as:
Drawing comparisons to The Witch, from Bloody Disgusting and Music Box, comes German gothic folk tale Hagazussa curses Screambox on July 12. Hailed by The Hollywood Reporter as “a spellbinding audiovisual symphony,” the film earned a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Go behind the scenes of George A. Romero‘s final film with Walking After Midnight: The Making of Survival of the Dead exclusively on Screambox July 26. The feature-length documentary follows the master of horror’s Survival of the Dead from production to premiere.

The Black Mass, the title of actress Devanny Pinn’s directorial debut is not, as one might guess, a reference to a Satanic ritual. It’s the description one of the survivors gave of the man who, across one long night in 1978, attacked four of her sorority sisters, killing two of them as well as attacking a random woman he encountered nearby.
That man was Ted Bundy. That doesn’t mean that The Black Mass is a typical true-crime film or even a straightforward slasher film. Pinn and co-writers Eric Pereira and Brandon Slagle keep the killer in the background figuratively and literally for much of the film.

When we reviewed Trauma Therapy: Psychosis it was mentioned the fillm was a reworked version of The Vance Institute. A was originally shot with the intent of being released in black and white with a few colour scenes. Instead, it was released all in colour.
There was also new footage added featuring Tom Sizemore as the host of The Tom Sizemore Show interviewing Victor, one of the characters from the 2019 film Trauma Therapy. After Sizemore died this made a centrepiece of the film’s publicity as his last film despite there being several more of his films yet to be released.
This was shot and edited in without the participation of the original director, Lawrie Brewster who says he was assured he would have the final cut.

These brief, spoiler-free interviews will – across the entire series – help you to discover the kind of knowledge and experience about how to make indie horror films that they don’t teach at film school.
